Spot on Ax! Makes me lose all respect when the big gear u2brs/pro players talk about (promote) tonewood like it's a thing, often quite casually throwing out this bs in conversation...like it's understood and factual awa agreed upon! Either they are straight liars or they are so wanting to "hear" it,...like others do, that they convince themselves it's real. Good stuff my friend! Love the recent Jim Lill vids! Explain away that!

Thank you, Han! Well, like I've told many people who commented here: these days, people will accept and believe just about everything. In all my nearly 50+ years, I've never seen people so gullible. Sure, we had issues with cults here and there when I was growing up (Jonestown, etc.). And, of course, there were brainwashed people around. But, Social Media has just made it increase exponentially. That's one of the many dark aspects of Social Media.
When Jim Lill released his video, the marketers and hucksters went into overdrive making videos - and forum posts - contradicting what he did and grasping at straws to prove Jim wrong. All they did was reinforce (to their sheep-like followers) that Tonewood is real beyond a shadow of a doubt. I got attacked with an ad hominem fallacy by one poster on this video. And I've also clashed with marketers/hucksters in their videos when I contradicted their ridiculous claims with scientific facts.
It's going to go on forever - this Tonewood nonsense. Why? Because it is has been said many times: "There's a sucker born every minute." And marketers/salespeople are very adept at manipulating the unwary and the gullible to give up their money.

For solid body guitars, I believe the size of the trem block and the pickups have more influence on tone than the body wood type, tone wood would be more important to acoustic guitar because the whole body is the conductance medium.

Exactly! My Glarry Strat is better than ANY Fender I ever owned or played. It's just top notch for sound and playability - all while being so very light-weight! But, as long as there are gullible people who have fragile egos - and an irrational fear of 'standing out' from the sheep herd - Tonewood lies will continue.

All this reminded me of something, and I dealt with this in my world of work.
I was a gunsmith, and radio tech for years.
Ok, so as of just a few years ago, only 5 companies made AR15 uppers, and lower receivers.
Now, there was some that made in-house receivers, like Palmetto State Armory and Anderson, and some others, but for most part, you order an AR15 upper or lower, it was made by 5 companies.
But, on the range, or here on youtube, in stores, you'd hear this garbage how this lower is better than this lower. Yet, they were the same lower or upper receiver. A marketing ploy.
This also goes for barrels, Green River made heaps of barrels for other firearm companies, yet, how good their barrel was over another, but were made by Green River? Does that make sense.
On firearms, yes, there is higher end products that will produce results, i.e. clover-leaf on a 100m target.
I have several that will compete with the high end ones, and I did not pay 10 grand for them by a long shot.
Got another one... radios, and talking about transmitters.
I had a guy one time tell me, he was an older guy that did have radio equipment, but man he was out there.
He saw one of my radios back in the day, it was a Truetone, a simple 40 ch. CB radio, I converted into 10/11 and 12 meter, all on the 02A PLL chip.
He kept calling it junk, even tho the other guys on the frequency we ran, knew better, they kept telling him, he does not know what he's talking about.
Anyway, he had a Midland mobile, and mine was too, and we wound up making a bet.
He said his Midland was different, than mine.
The outside case is, to a point.
I opened my radio, he opened his....they were the same, exact radio on the inside.
Of course I knew this, but he was so sure of himself, made arrogant and dumbass statements that my radio was inferior, yet...they were the same exact radio.
He paid the bet...he never came back on the channel we ran on.
Little did he know, or I did tell him, but he didn't believe me, I'd been in hundreds of radio's, and knew better. And I had the repair books on them.
Midland radio contracted to make many models of radios for different places.
The world isn't what it seems is it?

    • @dalesmyth7398
      @dalesmyth7398 2 года назад +1

Made a mistake: ''Anyway, he had a Midland mobile, and mine was too, and we wound up making a bet.''
He had the ''Midland'' brand, mine was Truetone: The insides were the same.
I made it sound like we had the same radio's on the outside, in a way they were, but mine clearly said Truetone, sorry for the confusion on that sentence.

@@dalesmyth7398 Never underestimate the power of belief - especially among the brainwashed. Marketers, the media, and politicians, are VERY adept at playing people like fiddles through their fears, their desires, and their egos. So, they can make someone thing up is down and the ground is the sky. It's stunning how much easier it's gotten to manipulate the general population. Just look at the last few years. So, believing marketing myths isn't a big stretch for them.

Not a six string conventional guitar but the same idea ....

What that means is when someone's strongly-held beliefs are contradicted by facts and reality, they don't react well to the confusion their brain feels. Most people will defend their beliefs very strongly - no matter how wrong they are. Many people are blinded by their own traditions.

Amateur question here, do you think bridges/saddles/ and nut material and or set up make any difference on sustain, not tone but sustain? As far as tone goes,,seems to me its the pickups/electronics that make the most tonal difference frequency spectrum wise.

All good points. I’ve been cruising your videos and notice you like cheaper guitars, but only fellow guitar players would know they are cheaper. The audience only knows if you can play well or not, period. Any guitar that’s easy to play and holds tune is a good guitar IMO. I’ve never known why, but I’ve always had a soft spot for cheaper electric guitars. When you find a great one it makes playing even more fun.

    • @Axess-sv8nq
      @Axess-sv8nq  2 года назад

Absolutely! I've played both expensive and inexpensive guitars for 44 years now. I prefer the inexpensive ones because they can be upgraded for $100-$200 to match the parts on the expensive ones (if needed). So that takes away the practical reasons to buy an expensive one. In my opinion, it's all about ego and marketing lies when a new guitar is above $1000.

  • @JamesMears76

I absolutely agree. Nothing wrong with using a pretty looking wood but it has no impact on the sound, it's all in the interaction of the strings and magnetic field of the pickups.

If tonewood is so important to people, then the only music they should play is 100% clean, through a PA that doesn’t change the sound at all. They should have no other instruments on their music, they should only play a single note at a time and let it fully ring out before playing another. If they ignore any of that then what does the tonewood gain them if their precious tone is altered by other factors before it is heard? In other words, if they don’t want to create music then they should go ahead and buy a guitar based on their beliefs.

Never underestimate the power of the brainwashed. Right now, we're on the edge of a nuclear war with Russia (considering what Putin said recently). Yet, what are people doing - especially famous musicians? Pushing pro US govt propaganda against Russia. Meanwhile the sheep are nodding their empty heads in unison and agreeing with the propaganda. With the Tonewood cultists, they've bought the lies hook, line, and sinker. Humanity has gotten less and less intelligent (by design, I think) since the 2000's started. So, it's no surprise that they're so easily manipulated. And they'll defend their brainwashing VERY strongly.

I get calling out companies for overcharging for woods.
PRS has people thinking that piece of maple cost them $7000.
But to call people morons for hearing the difference is just sour grapes.
There's people who can instantly tell the difference from Coke and Pepsi too...but the next guy who can't tell is the one calling everyone morons?
If guys like you had your way all guitars would be Poplar... because you can't tell anyway.
Luckily there's people who know better.
Harder woods are brighter and more expensive.
Soft woods are darker and cheap.
Pickups are 97% of the equation...but that extra 3% is very important.
But it's a cult if they can tell the difference in something you can't lol.
I guess I'd rather be in the group who's senses work properly, then the ones saying you can't prove the world isn't flat.

@@ElvisPretzel-rv3bg BELIEF is a powerful thing. Like I said to him, people say they saw Jesus in a piece of toast. Many said it was a miracle. From Jonestown to that Comet Cult in the 1990s, people have ended themselves over belief. It's powerful. He BELIEVES he can hear the difference and ridicules me because he says I can't hear what he THINKS/BELIEVES what he hears. I mean, if that isn't the height of nonsense, I don't know what is.
To me, he doesn't sound very smart about wood - he just ACTS like it. I know better. I know how an electric guitar works. The pickup only senses the string disturbing the magnetic field above it. That's it. Unless the pickup is microphonic, it's not picking up the wood resonance at all. People have made Strats out of CONCRETE - even Fender made one out of CARDBOARD. They sounded like Strats. A guy attached Tele pickups to a fence post. It sounded like a Tele. Jim Lill's Telecaster guitar with no body wood sounded like a Telecaster.
People have been buying into different types of SNAKE OIL for centuries. It's not going to change now - no matter WHAT you tell them and no matter how much you prove the claims are false. They will cling to their beliefs because that's their identity. That's why they get hostile toward anyone who disproves their beliefs. They perceive it as a personal attack on them. So, they retaliate with personal attacks. Like this guy attacking my ability to hear. If I had an inability to hear tones, could I recreate the MANY tones I've done on this channel nearly DAILY?? I don't think so.
