In my opinion, by Emmitt taking this journey is the real way to honor his ancestors. Eliminating what happened to them is really diminishing what they suffered and SURVIVED. It's not any more comfortable for the modern generation than it was for them, but we need to acknowledge them as one helluva man/woman for having gone through it and came out on the other side on the right side of the dirt

Thank you for this review. I just started my review into The Middleton Place and have found out as of yesterday, Julia “Jude” Watson married my Great Great Grandfather Issacs Middleton. My cousin and I were trying to identify the picture in another video which now we know is Bill (William) Watson, Julia’s father. The photo we have I believe was given by my Great Grandmother. Bill and Victoria would be my Great Great Great Step Grandparents if I am not mistaken.

Emmitt had never seen anything with the word “colored” on/in it? I remember seeing a sign somewhere in the South when we moved from PA to AZ in January 1955! Thing is I didn’t even understand what that meant! My Mkm always used that word and I always got upset with her about using it! I’m pushing 76 and I still have trouble with that word and why - yes, I know history - doesn’t make it right!
