In my opinion, by Emmitt taking this journey is the real way to honor his ancestors. Eliminating what happened to them is really diminishing what they suffered and SURVIVED. It's not any more comfortable for the modern generation than it was for them, but we need to acknowledge them as one helluva man/woman for having gone through it and came out on the other side on the right side of the dirt
Thats what i have always said...we are all cousins whether through your knowledge in being a child of adam and eve or it you believe that your parents came from some gelatinous goo .. still family...
Thank you for this review. I just started my review into The Middleton Place and have found out as of yesterday, Julia “Jude” Watson married my Great Great Grandfather Issacs Middleton. My cousin and I were trying to identify the picture in another video which now we know is Bill (William) Watson, Julia’s father. The photo we have I believe was given by my Great Grandmother. Bill and Victoria would be my Great Great Great Step Grandparents if I am not mistaken.
When I Saw The photograph of Mr Watson I recognized him My Brick Wall My Mother Still lives in Burnt Corn Alabama My Grandma Had 16 children there Harris Family
Emmitt had never seen anything with the word “colored” on/in it? I remember seeing a sign somewhere in the South when we moved from PA to AZ in January 1955! Thing is I didn’t even understand what that meant! My Mkm always used that word and I always got upset with her about using it! I’m pushing 76 and I still have trouble with that word and why - yes, I know history - doesn’t make it right!
This is very interesting, but it's so sad about our country, they would have killed me back in the day when people were treated like that, I know I would have stood up and said no and I'm from pensacola florida also and my Dad told me some horrible stories, he said that you couldn't imagine how people were treated 😭
Why would anyone worry about their ancestors? There all dead and Nobody today knew them . They were Complete Strangers and have nothing to do with you.

I love the old photos he has of his grandparents.
We have found a few famous relatives, related to my husband and daughter, while watching this show! I love their reactions!
It’s so painful watching our own fore parents suffering.. it’s like knots in my guts

I don't feel as much anguish as an African American would, of course, but it makes me want to cry, too.
The lady at the End did not seem so friendly at all
I thought so too.... especially for someone famous and being recorded.
It's Alabama.
All humans are related even if people don't want to acknowledge it.
Agreed
DEFINITELY

Yes 100%
True I agree .
Alabama has some crazy place names. My maternal grandfather grew up in Striped Nation. And of course Striped has two syllables.
What lol Striped Nation, wow!!!!

What happened to the rest of the video? Mr. Smith's video ended just as he was getting started on his history. Very disappointing!
The woman assisting him didn’t seem, to me, welcoming. Was it just me?
They want you to watch the show, rent the Sean, or buy it.
The guy already knew he was related to Emmitt but obviously Emmitt didn't know.
