Gotta do ‘Fight Fire With Fire’ and ‘Creeping Death’ off this same record, esp the lyrics on both. I know yall did the live in Russia, but the studio version is extra creepy and dark
Same here, the magic of this guitar solo is those incredible riffs James is playing on the rhythm guitar during the solo. This solo and the solo from "One" are my favorite Metallica solos, followed by the "Disposable Heroes" solo.
I haven't seen this live version, I'm impressed. James as he got older tends to sing the old songs as he normally sings now. He actually mostly tried to capture the higher pitch sound of his voice back then.
If you followed Ron McGovney on social media, you’d know he was the first bassist in Metallica… because he never stops talking about how he was the first bassist in Metallica 😩😆
Thank you for finally reacting to this song. It’s my personal favorite off the album. I will say although the performance was awesome, you can hear everything more clearly on the studio version. Have a great day guys!!! New Metallica video came out for 72 Seasons. Just sayin!!!
Great vid as always, guys! I would love to see you guys react to some live Sepultura from the early 90s, maybe starting with Orgasmatron from Donington 94 or anything from Barcelona 91!!

OG Metallica was James, Cliff, Lars and Dave Mustaine they fired Dave and replaced him with Kirk then Cliff died he was replaced by Jason and when Jason left Rob audition and got the part of bass player great reaction once again guys 🤟
The crazy thing is these guys have been going so hard for so long, James said that every person in the band has had multiple surgeries because their bodies break down from just all these years of touring. And the truly insane part is that the older they're getting, the more classic and more old school thrash metal they're sounding!
You guys would never notice how frequently James says "Yeah" if you listed to more White Zombie. Rob writes his lyrics around the word "Yeah", lol No comparison! 😆
Absolutely one of Metallica's best performances of Ride the Lightning. Better than on the tour in '85. But '86 is probably their best of this song.....this version is a close one.
Metallica still puts on a great live show. Have they slowed down? Of course they have, but they're all in their late 50's/ early 60's. We'll never see the Metallica of the 80's ever again, but let's appreciate tthat they're still around and touring/ making new music. They could have called it quits 15 years ago and sat around counting their money. Metallica are definitely still relevant in 2023.
React to Whom The Bell Tolls live. Robert their bassist is awesome in the beginning. The special performance they did live and had former bassist Jason & Robert is great too
I took my 15 year old metalhead mini me to see them at the AT&T Center in Arlington last August, and she was headbanging right there with me. They opened with Whiplash... holy shit! Followed by For Whom the Bell Tolls and straight into Ride the Lightning without slowing down. Ride the Lightning live is enough to melt your face off 🤘🤘
It’s not the singer, the drummer, the guitarist or bassist that makes a band. It’s the combination of all them that make a band. You can have the best guitarist and still not have it you know. James and Lars started the band then added cliff on bass and megadeths Dave mustaine on lead guitar. They fired Dave while making the first album and he was replaced with Kirk. Dave is an amazing guitarist and is credited for the kill ‘em all album. After cliff passed away tragically Jason newstead came on board. Robert replaced him on bass. So basically James , Lars and Kirk have always been Metallica. Kirk came from a band called exodus- another awesome metal band. Robert was in suicidal tendencies (another great band) and also played for ozzy.
I don't know about the print, but he has some pretty good signature guitars. Kirk Hammett that is, shoot Robert Trujillo signature bass guitars are pretty good too.
Mettalica is the best live (and not only) band ever. Lars may take a lot shit but he created the best metal band ever, it was his idea he met james through a magazine advertisment. P.S. Rotting Christ - Athanatoi Este
This version is slower than the album version....still a great song though. My favorite song is "Fade to Black"....early Metallica reminds me so much of high school....
I'm a longtime Metallica fan, and Ride the Lightning is definitely in my top 10 fave 'tallica songs. Lars' drum track on the original studio recording is an absolute masterpiece. By the way... Current lineup: James Hetfield & Lars Ulrich (since the beginning '81); Kirk Hammett (since 1983), and Robert Trujillo (since 2003). Past members: Cliff Burton (bass 1982-'86), Jason Newsted (bass 1986-2001), Dave Mustaine (gtr 1981-'83), Ron McGovney (bass 1981-'82). Producer Bob Rock played bass on the St Anger album, but didn't tour with them. That's it fellas. That's all who have played in this band. Kirk, James, and Lars have been there pretty much since the start.
James never left. :) you guys should check out trivium. they are like metallica 2.0. Heres a couple suggestions: The sin and the sentence, the phalanx, shogun
Metallica!! Always giving their 100% live. Fucking eh'! Imagine them doing two hour shows almost every night for four months straight, and each one is the same top notch level! Each one giving it all! Then you hear the so-called Metallica fanbois bitch and moan about Lars' drumming or Kirk's overuse of wah-wah... and you're like , "Dude! These guys are millionaires doing what they love, going out every night to give it ALL for you. How many lifetimes would you need to accomplish what they have accomplished?"

Scared of the moon, never heard of that lol, that's insane. Anyways, great reaction as usual. Hate to keep sounding like a broken record about it though.
Og and the only guys who can rightfully be called Metallica are James, Kirk, Lars and Cliff. Cliff died, they brought in Jason on bass. Jason eventually got fired and they brought Rob in on bass. Since Cliff died, they haven't been Metallica, imo. They should've changed the name
If there is fairness around James Hetfield has to be crowned the best frontman ever 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘. It was Lars who founded Metallica with James in ‘81. Kirk joined in ‘83 when Dave Mustaine rightfully was sacked due to drinking and odd behavour
Lars owns the band, that's the only reason he's never been replaced. You can never understand why people are sour on lars' drumming unless you heard the whole discography in order or you were there. Lars stopped being innovative after and Justice for all album His talent dwindled and his motivation to be better was lost. He cut corners, and took short cuts.
I agree Billy Bong, though i do think there are amazing fills on the Black album too, but considering that AJFA was before Black album, and he went harder on AJFA, black album is a little less special. But I think the legendary first 5 Metallica albums Lars did good, after that I have not heard anything really good from him anymore.
@ben ben it wasn't bad on the black album but that's when he definitely dumbed it down. It's more about the live, he dumbs it all down and it's sloppy, and listening to any other drummer on earth, not 1 has gotten worse over time, they all get better, except for Lars. I feel like he never truly learned how to drum.
@@FreeMTrider No I don't think so. He plays fun and great beats, but nothing creative. Hardwired were some of the first songs i learned on drums since they are literally beginner friendly. No amazing, creative and tricky fills that I can think of.
Okay, I enjoy Megadeth as well, but the Mustaine fanboys need to do a little research. He did not write "most of this album." By his own words, he wrote parts of this song, and most of "Call of Kthulu" before Metallica expanded it.
Kirk is under rated because his solos always fit so well within the groove of the song. I think it's a mark of a great band when no one stands out. Cohesion is the hardest skill to master.
As a drummer myself, Lars is not a great drummer but is maybe one of the most influential drummers of all time (with Ringo and Tommy Lee) on the sense they were a Frontman but on drums. All Drummers wants to be like them staring at the people, silencing a cymbal, that kind of stuff Ride the lightning is my favorite from them
Metallica are great live. Lars and James have been the only original members since they formed in 81. Ron McGovney was their original bassist and Dave Mustaine was their original guitarist. But both Ron and Dave left before Kill Em Off was released.
James actually was pretty close to being replaced around the right the lightning time period. He was feeling insecure about his singing and wanted to focus on guitar so they brought in the singer from Armored Saint and jammed with him for a bit and when he was offered the position as their new singer, he declined because he said that was only worthy for James’s spot.
A classic song Metallica are an amazing band I think that they’ve just lost a step Still awesome, but if you listen to their early live stuff there’s a major difference. But hey we all get old don’t we 🤷🏻 🤟🤟🏴🏴

I've noticed that too. He tried harder than normal to get those high notes in!
Kirk is probably the most underrated guitar player in metal. I never hear him mentioned in a list of greats.
