@@jim2245 it's far more than just memory foam. Boots are carbon fiber and many skates are a single piece of carbon fiber for the boot and outsole these days. The manufacturing process for that versus sewing leather together is night and day different.
@@EngineeredChannel agree, watched an assembly video 1hr ago at CCM custom factory in Montreal. Were talking about Crosbys specs & McDavid, certain secrets bleeped out. wanna get Bauer 3xs myself for winter
Development has stalled for decades. One would imagine that today the shoe would be something like an alpine ski boot, but the skates still use a more traditional leather shoe, developed in the 1960s, even though the alpine ski boot is stronger, more protective and easier to use. By the way, do you see shoelaces in many shoes today? Not really.
Keep in mind this video is at least 20 years old, based on the skate model they are making. Bauer, CCM and True have been making incredible innovations in skate design, construction and materials over the past few years (the skates I used in the 1990s are absolutely nothing like the skates my daughter wears today). Back in the 1970s and early 1980s, Lange - traditionally a ski boot manufacturer - did offer a range of professional hockey skates based on ski boot design. They were comfortable and protective, but they were also heavy, bulky, and frankly consumers didn’t like how they looked.
Loved my Bauer ice hockey skates, good times.
I love these videos! they are so interesting and educational...thank you!
The end line was such a slap in the face.

This has to be at least 15-20 years old. Skates aren't made this way anymore.
It can't have changed much, granted the comfort/memory foam has evolved a lot, the assembly process has evolved

@@jim2245 I currently rock Jetspeed FT2s, but want to try Ribcore 100ks next. I've always been a CCM guy.
I was going to say this too. Top hockey skates are nothing like this anymore. That particular Bauer model in the video is from the 90s.
