Certainly not enough content and following for the automatic gearbox, 2 of my minis are automatics one spi and one carb. Never had a single issue with them and I genuinely prefer them to my manual van.
Hi. Great to hear that. I bought my first classic Mini not that long ago and I was wondering where will I get the parts for my AT gearbox. Even if it's in a good condition changing a few parts won't hurt as it will be stripped for an inspection anyway. Are there any shops in Europe that you could recommend?
I really appreciate and enjoy the AP Auto and autos in general. The driveability was fabulous. It made traffic use a joy, especially if one adopted two foot operation, pre-loading the drive train just before take-off. It is an engineering marvel.
Greeting.. I have a mini rover spi automatic.. And what i can do to be careful with that??rbecause in my country nobody love that .. And im scared if that broke or fail.. G
Hi, Do you know the trigger on an automatic SPI on a 3rd party ECU. John Organ's - Foulis Overhaul Manual - AP2 automatic transmission book is really good. I am struggling to find any info about tuning autos. Totally agree with your thoughts on automatic minis. Excellent videos. Cheers Ronnie
Chubbs899, no they do not, you will find the depth of the plugs completely different between manual and automatics, so make sure you order correctly. AP and AP2 automatic gearboxes however did have the same plug.
#ClasicMiniCullture I've never thought of a classic Mini with an automatic gearbox. I came across interesting offer of 998cc and I am wondering if the ride in this car is smooth and really effortless. The other thing is- can I tune this engine a bit? (1991 - 998cc). What about timing chain? Shall I go for a duplex or there's no need to do so?
How many miles has it done?, generally speaking, if the automatic is less than 50K it should still be good, anything about that and it might need clutches replacing (forward and reverse) outside of that the hydraulic valves are reliable so very rarely do they fail...........you can normally tell if an automatic is about to let go, if it is grabbing its gears between shifts its time to rebuild, normally they are relatively smooth when shifting.
@@classicminiculture9800 Thank you for the reply. Car is 85000km (It hasn't been driven for last 6-7 years though). I read about overheating of these AT gearboxes on highways. Is this true? Or maybe modern oils can keep this unit cool? Where do you buy parts for them? I can hardly find any as they seem to be very rare :-/.
@@zaki79 I have three minis with automatics and I never had an issue with over-heating, sounds to me like the incorrect oil or poorly adjusted clutches (creating drag), for parts and advice I use ap2.world in the UK, he specialises in mini automatics.
@@classicminiculture9800 I've already written an email to AP as someone had mentioned this company's name in the comments below. Good to know that all the part are there. What do you think about raising the power a bit in a 998 automatic? What should I think of? Bigger carburetor? Will this gearbox handle 50-60bhp easily?
Automatics tend to be more reliable, and not driven as hard, for my automatics I change oil and the filters every 12 months or every 3000 miles, outside of that its just a case of checking the engine gaskets for oil leaks.

i need diagram to rebuild automatic gearbox?
recommend visiting ap2.world they have a lot of information on automatics.
Great - somewhere for us ‘autonaughts’ to get together ! I heard of a guy getting 150+ up through an AP auto box ....
I have a 1275 auto and run MA2 motorcycle oil , very underated configuration
I have an automatic mini 1.3i 1991 where I get parts for it and where I find the torque converter? if i need.
@@classicminiculture9800 THANKS
I love the Mini automatic. Makes a fun car even more so. 4 speeds and able to operate as a de facto semi auto.
....it is a engineering marvel, totally agree
I would opt for an automatic myself. It's a pity that they are pretty rare.

my dad's mate used to let him borrow his Clubman Estate auto. (1970s)
G'day - What engine oil to you recommend for the auto? Sythetic or Mineral? ??W/?? Thanks
10w40 for auto or 20w50 for manual
What's the average prices of a recon auto rover mini box? ☺️
ap2.world is your best source for automatic recon or rebuilds.

Hi Pedro what country are you in ? I can probably put you in touch with a specialist that can help you :)
Thank's for the upload, I have a 1967 Riley elf 998cc automatic and love the way it drives, I tell people it's the first tiptronic gearbox 😁😁
1969 Riley Elf Automatic and a 1986 Metro Vanden Plas Automatic here.
What a good perspective on the automatics in saving them.. I do enjoy your videos...
Did you guys ever get the ERA Turbo Mini ? it had 93 bhp and similar torque as standard :)

That book is impossible to get hold of these day's.
A little bit off topic here. Do the automatics have a different size oil drain plug from the manuals? if so do you have the spec for the automatic?

I got an Auto cos I have only had manuals and I needed a change :)
an engineering marvel, I love them personally, but a lot of people don't realise that you can also straight shift them as well😀

How do you change the select rod oil seal please
BoredAT50 that would be brilliant please show the removal of seal....
How is automatic compared to rebuilt 4-to5gear. I have a 5er cabrio.
