The reason for maintaining the embargo is personal. The United States considers Cuba to be within its sphere of influence, and Cuba dared to defy the wishes of the American government and align itself with the Soviet Union, and has continued to defy it for decades. Not that different from the Russian government's attitude toward Ukraine.

USA stole money from all over Latin America up to 60s or 70s so the situation we see today is unfortunately a result of that . In example in Venezuela USA took 95% of oil income . I think this must be remembered .

How much or little USA took of oil income in Venezuela has nothing to do with stealing at all.
You really need to read up on what stealing means.
Oil companies, no matter what country they come from, make deals with the countries they are going to start searching and drilling for oil in.
That doesn't matter if the company is from Britain, Norway, USA or another country.
This "stealing as you call it, have been done by companies and not by the country USA.
And that is a huge difference from what the Cuba regime did to their citizens.
If a country are not tough enough when it comes to making those deals with the oil companies, they can very well get a small share of the oil profit.
This has happened all over the world.
It is totally natural that the oil companies take a large share of the oil profit as they are the ones taking the huge risks of searching for oil and they are the ones investing all the money in the oil drilling and transportation infrastructure as well.
The countries having the oil, are taking no risks at all.
I am guessing from your name that you are Norwegian and if I am correct about that, I suggest you read up on the start of the oil adventure in your own country.
And Norway was by far one of, if not the toughest countries in negotiations with oil companies from Britain and USA.

Yeah it's pretty hypocritical.. but unfortunately in international relations a lot of countries behave in this manner. The United States knows that China is an economic powerhouse and simply must interact with it in the economic and political realm if it wants to maintain its own international prowess. However, Cuba has a tiny influence on the world relative to China (not saying this to disparage Cuba; it's regionally an important country) and domestic political concerns take precedence over the benefits that could come to Cubans of the embargo was lifted. It is an incredibly silly policy, but unfortunately it seems that it's deeply entrenched in the bureaucracy of American foreign policy.

As an American, I feel it is high time to end the embargo altogether. A lot of the cause of the embargo is that American companies lost their holdings in Cuba with nationalization by the Castro regime. However, many of those companies were abusive of Cubans and bled Cuban resources. Finally, it is time to let this be and move ahead into an era of better relations.
Americans have a right to travel freely. It is high time to end restrictions on American travel to Cuba or Americans should simply ignore such restrictions.

@@notastone4832 Bay of Pigs is a footnote few in the US recall. The embargo stays in place mainly because of inertia. Not enough interest in lifting it because there is more to lose than gain. It could be lifted tomorrow and a year or two later, the communist party would still be in charge. Whoever pushed to lift the embargo would then come under ridicule. Now if a Gorbachev figure arose in Cuba and began making reforms to improve human rights, lifting the embargo would become more likely.

If Castro NATIONALIZED many Industries that were in Cuba at that time, that is, if CASTRO has stolen ASSETS and the production of many Companies, and THERE WERE no FAIR INDEMNITIES, is logical to conlude that the EMBARGO was/is fair... CASTRO, by this action, repelled many companies that became afraid of building up new industries in Cuba... The stagnation began!! Not because of the embargo... although Castro (and every communist in the world) blame the embargo for the Cuban crises. Castro made himself a DICTATOR and was not able to attract new investments for Cuba... As other Socialist regimes, the ECONOMY was destroyed. But they have money to buy weapons... 3% of their GDP...This kind of regime must be discouraged by EVERYBODY... USA is doing its part since then... I don't know much about politics but I don't understand why there is so much stink about the U.S. keeping the embargo! Several other countries that trade with Cuba also have available what that socialist country needs. Why are we the "bad guys"? Why doesn't Cuba meet our demands (or their own protestors) for which we might consider lifting the embargo?

Having supplies available doesn’t matter when it’s illegal for those countries to sell it to Cuba

@@jah_alexander Selling to the Cuban government doesn't matter either..! Dictatorships and repressive governments never allow or give its people what they need or want... The people need "Freedom" they deserve to have "Human Rights" at least..! All of the leaders of Cuba, live rich and entitled lives. They live like or even better lives than the "Rich and Middle class" they were so against prior to the revolution... The Embargo exists because Fidel and his government "Nationalized", "Appropriated" and "Stole" lands, businesses, homes, and even entire industries, both Foreign and National owned... with absolutely no compensation whatsoever..! They ran all of them into the ground! They leached off the USSR and then Venezuela. They trade with hundreds of countries worldwide, in spite of the "Embargo", but they don't pay! They are a bad risk as far as business and world trade goes... Remember why the US and many other countries were so heavily invested in Cuba in the first place? Oh Yeah. Cuba is "RICH" in resources, has extremely RICH agricultural lands, which they EXPLOITED for centuries..! Yet this Cuban government cannot even provide enough food for its own people..? When your government only cares about staying in power... the needs of the people comes in, second, third, fourth, fifth and so on.... The Cuban government doesn't even provide for basic infrastructure and needs... Crumbling Buildings, even within its own capital. Deteriorated streets, electrical grids and water distribution..! Hospitals and Schools on the verge of collapse..! Cuba is in dire straits..! None of this ever existed before! Call it what it is..! A corrupt government, with TERRIBLE and FAILED policies for decades, with total disregard of the welfare of its own people..!
