@@Fishtory yeah all metal all the time ..... we sent you an email about doing something not sure if you got it but just let us know whatever you want to do we love getting together with other awesome RUclipsrs🤘🤘
All of this is 100% true! Also, watching your fish for hours helps them start to recognize you...For example all the fish in my tank have been trained to know that if they see my face, nothing bad is going to happen. When they see me stand up in front of the tank, they know I'm reaching for food. If my hand is in the tank, they either think my hand is food, or it's doing maintenance (during the latter they still think my hand is food lol...makes trying to use scissors in the tank a nightmare, trying to make sure a fish isn't trying to eat the scissor or my hand while I'm cutting). Great video, Alex!
Thanks buddy. I'm sure you have observed even more subtle cues as well. But some secrets must be kept, eh? I always appreciate how perceptive and astute you are! Thanks for being such a great friend and community member, brother.
Hey Alex I always wear my snorkel and goggles when check my fish 🐠 do you also dunk your head into your tank for close ups ? Lol encore encore lol 😂 group size for breeding is a orgy ???
i just ring the dinner bell , or tell them to call agent boo boo and tell them how bad there life is, i will defiantly buy other fish lol, ones that will be grateful of there big tank. i will also ground them for months and tell them there bad or good . Alex have you been good this year for Santa Flaus ??
Wtf don’t tap the glass for ..... sakes I’m cringing Lol you said watch out for how much sound and light you introduce. And then you tap the glass every time you’re gonna feed them. That’s totally unnecessary. They know without you tapping the glass mate. Boooom boooom booooom . Wtf is it, oh it’s only the dinner bell
Theyre probably just settling in, usually theyll relax if you put a few plants or sticks in for them to huddle around if they get scared...but most the day they should open swim once they relax
Haha glad to hear you enjoy it. But make sure you unwind and destress or meditate a little each day...even 15 minutes of watching and just clearing your mind of all non-fish issues, really does wonders for me.
Long finned neons so cool! Great advice, I do most of the things you mentioned and do not have shy fish or shrimp. I always tell people looking for advice on shy kuhlis, even though it seems counter intuitive, give plenty of hiding places to see them more. With the added security available it will be more than just a, hey there was my kuhli, when they do come out. Given their reclusive nocturnal nature may still not see them much.
I put 24 red cherry shrimp in my heavily planted 36 gallon and I only see maybe 2 or 4 shrimp at a time. There’s no fish in there at the moment. I wanted to give them a couple months to breed and establish a colony before adding some neon tetras or something small like that. I don’t know what to do to get them to be more visible
Yeah shrimp like to hide at first...usually the next generation wi be more visible...but not always, especially if you have a lot of plants for them to hide in
@@Fishtory oddly enough I can’t see more than four or five at any given time, but there’s no way there’s still 24 in there, I did a little aquarium maintenance trimming plants etc and I didn’t see more than a few and bizarrely there’s no bodies of dead shrimp anywhere either, I even looked inside the filters and couldn’t find any trace of where the other 20 shrimp went. I just never seem to have luck with these guys
Absolutely beautiful tanks! What a great video!! Great advice and always solid information!! These are things a lot of us who keep fish has to deal with.... having amazing fish, but not being able to see them and enjoy them!! You are right we need to take into consideration of making a more natural habitat that the fish are more comfortable in. It can make such a difference!!!! The fish room/house looks amazing! Thank you so much Alex for sharing! Have a very blessed day! 🙏🌿🐟🌿
Wow, I truly like your videos - always something to learn from it. Your tank layouts and plants are damn awesome. Is it my imagination or do you NOT use full spectrum aquarium lights? I may be very stupid but those RGB lights sounds a bit far fetched to me. Look at you lush plants without RGB lights !!
Well I actually use pastel lights If I'm doing high tech or advanced plants (Google twinstar lights c series or EA series and look for the reflection of the diodes...they're under fogged glass, and are red, pink, peach, green, violete, sky blue and a few yellows and soft whites... but otherwise...nah I think almost any light under 150 $ with red and blue, is sort of a gimmick... now the very high end ones that put out real uvA and uvB... those are worth using...but at that price I go for Kessel, ADA or Twinstar (and try to find them second hand...because they're stupid expensive lol)
I added some bushier plants to my tank last week and made little apartments in the foliage and everyone's behavior instantly changed. I wrote in my journal "Everyone loves LOS(line of sight)". Thanks for the video, this was great info
My two fish tanks is in the living room. I have the impression that my fish like it when I’m playing music. I Never play at very high volume. But they are angel fish. The tetras, or other fish I’ve had. I never seen the fish getting stressed out, rather the opposite they enjoy it lol Putting on some music and watching the fish is all good, here at least
Hey Alex I’ve recently set up an aquarium and there is this white film above the substrate that ranges from one to five inches thick depending on the day that has been there for a month. Any answers to what it is.
Likely a harmless fungus that newer tanks get ...especially if any wood pieces are present (I don't know if you have wood in there though). But its either that, or dead bacteria from when it was over-cycling ammonia from being a new tank, and it just needed to find it's balance. With normal water changes it should disappear in a week or two
@@Fishtory Thanks, yes I do have a small price of driftwood in it. When I looked it up online I never saw any that deep or on the substrates instead of the wood. I assume there might have been wood chips in the dirt.
Thanks Jamie...oddly enough, those aren't my "aquascaped" tank like the ones in my living room. But following nature produces beautiful outcomes, I seem to find
Actually it's jadeite that's got a ton of diatomaceous algae on it. I hike up into the mountains and grab chunks off rock slides. Highway 20 in WA state lol..probably doesn't help I'm guessing.
Important subject! Too often you see tanks with just a plant here and there, an an occasional rock, otherwise a barren landscape. Now a very open aquascape might suit fish like Stiphodon gobies, they are not shy, but like to have plants to graze on or to hide in between if neccesary, but most of the time they seek the open areas, well lit so there is a biofilm on the surfaces. But sure there are shy fish, like many of the rasboras, fx the glowline rasbora. They were not comfortable in my tank until the planting had grown dense and now they almost always stays under the big Echinodorus Ozelot plant, from where they make small excursions to the front, when feeding and the food passes by in the stream that goes by the front glass. I believe that's how they also do it in nature, living in small streams hiding under foliage waiting for food to come by.
Yes 👍 . Also, that's why current and flow are important to some small fish feeling safe. So they feel like they are hiding in a spot where food comes to them, and not the open
All very good advice:) i only feed my fish once a day at 3:00 pm. All the top and middle feeding fish are ready to eat a couple minutes after I turn the tank lights on. I’ll toss in food for bottom feeders too . Some will come feed but I notice around 4:30 all the gobies and other bottom feeders start scurrying for food. Some plecos and Whiptail catfish will come out then also.
We play metal all the time so our fish aren’t shy🤘🤘🤘🤘
Hahaha 100% approved. Drum N' Bass or UK Jungle, is what traumatizes fish lol...that and Don Ho

You're probably totally correct. I just do it as a ritual
Just got 6 Zebra Danios in my QT and they are super shy. I have some cover, but they all just hide in the corner where the air pump is.
