HELL YES! Aesop is my favorite rapper of all time, his songs never got old because you’re just consistently deciphering them. Listen to Nightlight sometime soon, it’s just the darker version of this. Shit is 🔥

@@DazsdWTP Russian metalhead here. Love Aesop so much, even i can understand like 10 percent of he's sayin', coz of my word baggage, but he delivers it so cool and catchy, so i just can't didn't respect it. And the beats are brilliant itself. Most of his work, i liked split project with Kimya Dawson called "The Uncluded" - this was a masterpiece, and there was some truly heart-breaking songs on the album.

@Kyle Sedlacko That's literally the exact reason I can constantly listen to his music on repeat without it feeling watered down or stale. It's like each song is telling a story or two and deciphering said story adds another level to his music. Love it.

The GOAT, nobody can touch the man's imagery and wordplay. My favorite bit in here might be "I'll hang my boots to rest when I'm impressed, so I triple-knot em then forgot em." Clearly, he don't expect to be impressed anytime soon. Hard to believe this track is already 18 years old.
So much to dig into with Aes Rock. Two decades worth of epic solo joints, collabs, features, and group jams. The rabbit hole is bottomless.

The nightlight repose of "I'm'a lay my kicks to rest when I'm impressed, so I staple gun 'em to my feet." On it's own reflects his Daylight statement and doubles down on the sentiment.

If you can muster the time & focus, seventies style (with the big ass headphones), relisten to this album nonstop:
There are three or more metaphors he twists throughout the album and they get consecutively more dark *culminating* with the song "Nightlight". The titles being opposite were the first clue for me, then looping the album until the next one came out, noticed a few more...
      "Life's not a bitch..."

      @amanSpawn00 5 лет назад +9

Jay Money nawwww, Em is dope and versatile. He’s not close to Aesop though
I grew up on Em as one of the first I listened to
He’s nowhere near as complex as people believe & Aesop is a whole 3 levels above Em. In both skill n complexity.
It’s through every line he uses.
If Aesop cared to slow down his material, I can say this with confidence, he’d EASILY be on the level of Eminem
Only someone who can switch through multiple levels of writing that has many layers can keep up.

Put one up for Shackle Me Not, clean logic procreation
I did not invent the wheel, I was the crooked spoke adjacent
While the triple sixers' lassos keep angels roped in the basement
I walk the block with a halo on a stick, poking your patience
Y'all catch a thirty second flash visual

    Bloom, head-trip split ridiculous
Fathom the splicing of first generation fuck-up
    With trickle-down anti-hero smack (Kraken!)
I pace my game for zero hour completion cretin, splash
Duke of early retirement picket dream
    American Nightmare hogging the screen
I'll hold the door open so you can stumble in
If you'd stop following me around the jungle gym
Now it's honor, and I spell it with the 'H' I stole from heritage
Merit crutched on the wretched refuse
    Of my teeming resonance
I promise, tempest tossed breed with a bleeding conscience
    See, the creed accents responsive
But my spores divorced the wattage
And I'm sleeping now - wow! - yeah, the settlers laugh
You won't be laughing when your covered wagons crash
You won't be laughing when the buzzards drag your brother's flags to rags
You won't be laughing when your front lawn is spangled with epitaphs (You won't be laughing!)
Then I'll hang my boots to rest when I'm impressed
So I triple knot 'em and forgot 'em
    His origami dream is beautiful
But man, those wings will never leave the ground
Without a feather and a lottery ticket, now settle down

Put the pieces back together my way
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day
Put the pieces back together my way
    [Verse 2]
Slacker-bound intimate tabloid headline with a pulse
Shimmy cross the centerfold, enter dead time engulfed
Divvy crumbs for the better souls
With seven deadly stains, adhere the blame to crystal conscience
The result's a lowlife countin' on one hand what he's accomplished
Okay, link me to activism chain activate street sweep
    Plug deteriorating cenobite pendragon
I hock spores coursed by the morbid
Spreading of mad men, Alley gospel
Sinking your Lincoln-Log cabin and Charlie Chaplin waddle
I could zig-zag and zig 'em again
For the badge dreams sparkle in my brick wall windows
Another thick installment of one night in Gotham
Without the wretched; Houston, we have a problem
Attached to the festive batch of city goblins
Who split holiday freaks on a box cut cinema high road bellow
Head gripped, watch red bricks turn yellow
Sort of similar to most backbones at camp Icarus
    Where all fiddler crabs congregate
    And get pampered for bickering
Life's not a bitch, life is a beautiful woman
You only call her a bitch 'cause she won't let you get that pussy
Maybe she didn't feel y'all shared any similar interests
Or maybe you're just an asshole
Who couldn't sweet talk the princess
Kiss the speaker wire Peter/pacifism pegging threshold
    Stomach full of halo kibbles
Wings span cast black upon vigils
Here to Duck Hunt ticker tape vision and pick apart the pixels
I got a friend of polar nature, and it's all peace
You and I seek similar stars but can't sit at the same feast
Metal Captain, this cat is askin' if I've seen his bit of lost passion
I told him: "Yeah," but only when I pedaled past him
    [Chorus]
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day

u sayin that 'it's hard to not stop' when u c something is so true. i hit STOP, REWIND, STOP, REWIND sooo many times, STILL, w/ songs i'v heard 2million times. B4 INTERNET LYRICS, HAD 2 REWIND & WRITE FEW WORDS I CAUGHT DOWN A PAGE, REWIND, FILL IN A FEW IN-BETWEEN WORDS, REWIND...FOREVA. still lines i got multi guesses at what he's saying, & every possibility is higher level thought artistry...DEEPEST MYSTERY LINE IS from DRYSPELL, it's either 'my pulse is a gymnast when i witness fury scurry past my window' or sites claim line is 'my palms are a chin rest when i witness fury scurry'...so his pulse doing flips or he's casually bored/unalarmed when fury's round...Aesop even posted his handwritten notebook lyrics to dryspell but not the first page...doh
