+Matt Jordan I saw this back when it was posted and fell in love with it. Could not stop listening to/watching this video. I'm talking non-stop... on a loop. I rediscovered it yesterday and I still feel the same way. It's so great. So well done. I love the Strokes, but I LOVE this version so much. Just... I don't know. It's great. :D
Found this video about a year ago. It opened me up to the Punch Brothers and the Strokes and opened me up to my current music tastes. Every once in a while I come back to this video and think about where I was 1 year ago. And every time I'm back I'll always be reminded of that summer, spending days in Long Beach and having fun with good people. This video was the signal of some of the best months of my life.
I love the idea of this video, like it's two bands that would normally never be associated with the same music group like The Strokes are definitely rock/punk and Punch Brothers are acoustic/bluegrass. It sounds like the weirdest combination of music genres but it works so damn well. A+
these guys can play any style of music they want. they are gifts. they listen to all kinds of music. but I digress they play blue grass. that's what they love. hats of to them. sounds great.
I have never heard of this band before in my life and that might be the best cover that I have ever seen done. Holy fuck!!! High quality mastered recording please!!!! :(
The bassist pulled off the awesome chorus riff with no problem on an upright bass! And the amazing guitar solo played on a violin! I've seen it all! Man these guys are talented!!
Rick Forsyth I understand what you mean but if you followed him with Nickel Creek back 20 years ago you'd see how awkward he's always been and trust me he's way better now lol. They guy also has won a McCarthur Fellowship Award a few years ago (worth $500,000 and defined as: The MacArthur Fellows Program, MacArthur Fellowship, or "Genius Grant" is a prize awarded annually by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation typically to between 20 and 30 individuals, working in any field, who have shown "extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits...) Chris Thile is important to our society even though his social skills are a bit askew. 😊
Between this and the Cars song they covered, I can say I'm a fan. They really know how to arrange a song to suit their instruments and give the performances a new flavor that works remarkably well.
Wtf. With string instruments only this is so good. Great cover by far the best one i heard over this song. Yall add ur own vibe it didn't sound so punk but like pop mixed with alternate great job again wow
Wow this is fantastic. Everything is really well done and the style changes so drastically yet remains completely faithful to the original songwriting.
When a cover song starts with bluegrass, I typically immediately click to something else. But, I'm glad I didn't panic and shut these guys off. I actually enjoyed this.
Andrew Beswick Yes!! I've got the Chris Thile CD with Heart in a Cage on it. I'm an even bigger fan of that cover, since he puts more of his own spin on it
I am a huge fan of The Strokes, and I wasn't so sure about this cover because Julian's voice could hit some strange notes, but they did a good job. :) it is definitely a unique version!
Instantly added to my favourites, exceptional cover.

One of the best cover I've ever seen in my entire life.
here here
Fantasc it's the fuckin punch brothers man they rule
I like that in the intro, the guy was doing an act-out of holding a mic when there was a mic three feet next to him.
Jonathan Hohensee lol fair point
That mic costs over $3,000 and dude knew better than to fuck with it.
Hahah, just scrolled up to see the mic after seeing this comment. He is looking at it in a terrified manner, you're totally right.
Violin solo sealed the deal to me.
Right?!?!?
+ss2100100 I believe that was fiddling.
omg can we get these guys to cover EVERYTHING pls ??
"just what I needed" was amazing and this tops it!!
+privatehuff try on love on top by these guys
privatehuff have you heard them do Toxic?
I couldn't find Toxic on youtube
They do radiohead really well too
Toxic is Nickel Creek, not Punch. That might help+

Some of the best months of your life *so far*! ;-)
Not from LB, I'm from Pedro so it's close. But yeah great stuff. Cool to see that music can be so universal.
What an amazing way to put it. makes me long for another period of time like that.
"This won't be good.. Oh crap, that was awesome!"
+Yusoff M my exact thoughts
it's punch brothers. No way this could have been bad
shayne whydoihavetohavealastnamegoogle?
+Yusoff M EXACTLY
+Leiff Kaulia Oh my fucking God, was that his username? lol
The best kind of cover. These guys always do a fantastic job.
This works surprisingly well
Best cover ever.
Not "best Reptilia cover": just best cover I've ever heard in my whole life.
the guy with the mandolin looks like the guy who plays Matt Murdock from Daredevil😂
lmao he even has those huge eyes
Charlie Cox, yes!
That guy with the mandolin is probably one of the best mandolin players that has ever existed.
Blackmores Night check out Richie Blackmore

the strokes are definitely not punk, not even a bit

Sí, creo que fue buen trabajo.
Now I want to fight someone in a pub in ireland.
lmao god dammit
Zachary Martinez only if this song is playing while it happens haha
do more of the strokes!
I can see the way you enjoy the music, I can apreciate the way you feel the music, and when you make that, it means that you're doing it pretty good.
I have never heard of this band before in my life and that might be the best cover that I have ever seen done. Holy fuck!!! High quality mastered recording please!!!! :(
Punch brothers are funking amazing, they're rendition is always amazing.
The bassist pulled off the awesome chorus riff with no problem on an upright bass! And the amazing guitar solo played on a violin! I've seen it all! Man these guys are talented!!
When the singer opened his mouth, i was shocked to find out he didn't sound like Will Forte...
This is one of my favorite covers by them. Excellent.
As a huge fan of this song, I'm pleasantly surprised. This is an awesome cover.
That dude looks like Absinthe Jude Law
thank you! I was trying to figure it out for so long.
Chris Thile is the mandolin god
Damon Albarn plus Jude Law
Dudes kinda over confident
Rick Forsyth I understand what you mean but if you followed him with Nickel Creek back 20 years ago you'd see how awkward he's always been and trust me he's way better now lol. Great cover of a great song.
Awesome follow up to the Cars cover. These guys blow my mind with covers and originals.
The Punch Brothers are awesome!
Between this and the Cars song they covered, I can say I'm a fan. They really know how to arrange a song to suit their instruments and give the performances a new flavor that works remarkably well.

Excellent cover! BRAVO Punch Brothers!
Excellent tone control.. dig this guy's voice fo realz
Wow this is fantastic. Everything is really well done and the style changes so drastically yet remains completely faithful to the original songwriting.

Incredible!!!
This is great! I love their sound.
I just fell in love. THIS COVER IS SIIIIIICK
What an absolutely awesome cover to my fave song of all time...yo, you guys rock!
I like to think the banjo player and the violinist never leave each others' sides, but will never smile at each other.
The guy is playing this song on a banjo...just wow! I'm impressed!!!
that was so amazing!!
Unbelievably good cover.
absolutely nailed it
that was amazing, love the fiddle!!
I'm crying. This is AMAZING!
When a cover song starts with bluegrass, I typically immediately click to something else. But, I'm glad I didn't panic and shut these guys off. I actually enjoyed this.
ive loved this song for a long time and now i love it even more great cover!
Really exceptional performance by some talented guys.
This is the most original cover I've ever heard of this song. Love it, even if I obviously prefer the original version.
incredible lads! unique talents..
The punch brothers also have a killer cover of "heart in a cage" by the strokes. CHeck it out!
Andrew Beswick Yes!! I've got the Chris Thile CD with Heart in a Cage on it. I'm an even bigger fan of that cover, since he puts more of his own spin on it

So sick!
The Punch Brothers strike again.

There is a video of them covering this at a radio station a couple years ago so I knew this would be good.
