Just discovered the channel and am enjoying the content! I have a PA555 with the golden lion tube paired with a Schiit Agier, but have (thankfully) not noticed a high noise floor. To my ears the combo sounds throughly musical and holographic. Even as bargain pieces, they are keepers for me!

Honestly Rick, listening to your 2 Google Drive files, I hear a huge difference. Were these recorded at the same recording level? Listen at 2:40 50% volume. The Gold Lion is much hotter and crisper than the Ruby. The Ruby sounds a touch muddy, like maybe it needs a bit more treble or midrange, whereas the Gold Lion fills all gaps significantly.
YES, FASTER DECAY! LOL, I lost the technical words during my video. That's exactly what I meant by faster signal. Cleaner and less decay, But to my ears, in my system, very slight. Maybe through a different type of Midrange or heavier woofer, it might be more noticeable. The midrange in my 3-way is a planar magnetic 400Hz to 10k, so maybe in a 2 way with aluminum cone, the decay might make a larger difference. I frankly didn't listen to the tube difference on my 2 way XLS Encores. Missed opportunity. Next time I will!

Yeah, I recorded with my Sound Devices MixPre6 with the same gain. I'm glad you hear something. Honestly in my room it's very very slight.

Also, to my ears, the Golden Lion had cleaner resolution up top as well as faster decay compared to the Ruby. So, IMHO, it was well worth the $.

I have a matched pair of Voskhod Rocket 6J1P tubes i wonder how they would perform in this pre
