May she R.I.P. and hopefully she’s reunited in heaven with her love Allen Ludden and all of her friends and family who went before her. God bless you Betty and Andrew!
I remember when this song came out in 1978 . I still have it on 45 record. It tears me up each time I hear it now . I had a friend name Brant ,nickname Bunky ...we became best friends in 1977 . We hunt ,fish , in the same classes throughout school to high school . Help work with his Dad's store . He was my best man when I got married to my Soulmate ( me and her now 41 years married, 43 Soulmates) . Me and Brant stayed best friend through the years and while I was in the Army . We would not see each other for q good while and then pick backup like it was yesterday. Well Bunky came down with cancer, beat it the 1st time , had 2 good years and then it came back with a vengeance. Bunky died last year . We were able to say what we had to say to each a while back on the 1st go , but did it again on how much he meant to me and how he always had my back no matter what . Well he fallout at home and the EMS had to get him and they got him to the emergency room , my sister works there , Bunky got my sister to call me while he was fighting for his life and every breath ...He told Me how much he loved me and how much our friendship had meant to him and his Family through the years . How he could always count on me and I never let him down . I could hear the doctors and nurses working on him . His wife and son were with him . I told him I loved him and to fight and hold on ...my sister took the phone and walk out of the room , she told me it didn't look good and his blood pressure kept bottoming out . She told me to get up there asap , which I did . I rush as fast as I could , I was parking my truck ,when my sister call me back and said Bunky is gone ....well this ol Soldier has been overseas in harms way ,and seen alot of death ,and wicked shit that people do to one another . I had gotten hard hearted to alot of things in life at times . I broke down and cried like a child , I couldn't stop it . It took me awhile to get my mess together and my sister let me in the ER . His wife and Son are great friends and she let me say my goodbyes and talk to Bunky , which I will be forever grateful to her for that . Well 3 days later we bury Bunky , my Bestfriend for 44 years ...not a day goes by I don't think of him and our fun times growing and the bad times too . I was the 1st one to get my driver's permit and I would pick him up for school and we rode back qnd forth to school and his Dads shop for years . They say you can count your true friends on 1 hand , I fully agree with that . I had 4 I count , now only 2 left...but Bunky was No # 1 on the list . A True BestFriend is worth their weight in Gold and then some . Sorry yall for being long winded and details I guess. But the ol VA Has been helping me with some things I saw along ago in the Army overseas. I don't like to talk about them , but I learned writing them out helps alot of me . So that's what I been doing and with Bunky' passing it is a hard lick still today . So if you have a Best friend, Mom, Dad ,Brother ,Sister ,or someone you really, really love and care about ....let them know ,make time for them , make those Blessed Memories to carry you through life's end ...cause once they are gone , there is no second chances or replay to make things right . Just my experience and humble 2 cents worth in this crazy world we are all traveling through till our time is up . God Bless You Bunky and keep you till we meet again. God Bless you all , be happy , be safe , protect your loves one's...don't depend on anyone else to do it ...that's your job ... and as the Ol Eagles song goes..." Take It Easy " ....
Wow ♥️♥️♥️♥️😢😢😢😢. I wish I had a truly one long time friend that I had held on for that many years all the way to the end, but I do have friends I had met in 1984 freshman year in college. We have kept in contact over the last 39 years through email in the 90s and now much easier with smart phones etc. One had moved to Arizona close to me in 1992 and we have found other friends whom we hang out with at least 2X a month every Monday for the last 8 years. When the 'Golden Girls' premiered, I was 30 years old but I didn't watch this series. I remember my aunt use to get her snacks and wine every Saturday talking about seeing the 'Golden Girls' on NBC on Saturday nights. I didn't understand what all the fuss about my aunts and mother were making over this series until I watched it later on in life as a man. I fell in love with all 4 characters and I still watch the 'Golden Girls' sometimes nightly on the Hallmark Channel. Now that I am in my late 60's, single, gay, and no children, it is lonely being alone as a senior citizen. The girls bring me comfort every time I watch the 'Golden Girls'. RIP, girls!
I was 7 when the pilot aired and I remember my Meme watching it in the kitchen…..I always that was written just for the show…..Little did Mr. Gold know that he wrote one of the (IF NOT) the most iconic themes to any show!! Thank you, Mr. Gold for writing this piece of American History!!
I don't ever write personal stuff like this but a couple years ago I flew back to my old home town to see my best friend before he past away from cancer. He was in bed, couldn't talk and we just looked at each other with tears in our eyes and I had the strange urge to sing this song to him, but of course, I didn't. I flew out that same night and his wife called and said he passed. As simple as this song seems, it has greater meaning than any song I can think of. Just hearing this reminded me of that day.
I know what you mean. I wanted to tell my grandfather something important when he was on his deathbed but I didn’t. I will one day, just as you will one day when we all meet in whatever afterlife you believe in
I agree. I didn't even know this song before THE GOLDEN GIRLS... in fact, I just discovered the original within the last year. Thank YOU for being a friend, Andrew. And long live all of the Jews who have contributed so much to American, and world, culture.
When my dad passed away , his best friend couldn’t make it to say good bye. When his friend got in his truck and turned on the radio this song was playing ❤️ every time I hear it I start to cry
My dad told me when I was in about the 5th grade that if I had one true friend in life I was lucky! I didn't understand what he meant because I had so many friends at that age. At 34, I get it. Thank goodness for the real ones!
Your dad was so very right. I was told something similar when I was a child and it sounded crazy. Now, at the age of 42, I see just how true those words were. They resonate with me when I'm going through and I look around but all my "friends" have disappeared.
Great background vocalist, along with Kenny Edwards, on Linda Ronstadt's classic song "Heat Wave"--they added a lot to that song (to go with Ronstadt's great singing) to make it the hit that it was !!
My grandmother and I used to watch Golden Girls together when I was a child; both she and Betty White passed away this year. I’m thankful to end 2021 with a beautiful, healthy family, and the hope that Betty and Peggy Ann are shining brightly together in the Cosmos. “And when we die and float away Into the night, the Milky Way You'll hear me call as we ascend I'll see you there, then once again Thank you for being a friend.”
I was born in 85 and this is the first time I've heard the whole song. But I'm glad I did. When your in a situation like I am all I can ask for is a friend. And I thank those who have been.
My wife sang this to me tonight. Never heard it before and then she showed me this video. Instant new favorite. And to my wife: thank you for being my friend
RIP Andrew Gold and Thank You for being with us for this short trip here on earth and influencing us with your beautiful music and well written lyrics.
I just came here to wish a sad farewell to Betty White. I didn't realize the song pre-dated "Golden Girls" until just a few months ago... but, it's awesome and it's clear why the shows creators used it
Same reason I came here. This song reminds me of the joy she brought to many people in her role in "Golden Girls." Happy New Year to you and your family.
I can't believe Betty is gone. A week ago I was thinking that she was almost 100. You can argue she was the greatest and best and most beloved actress to ever live. Loved by everyone and all. Truly defines the word legend.
@@invasion1824 Prayers will be lifted on your behalf that you may be blessed with a true friend here on this earth. I hope you can trust that there is a True Friend always there for all who choose to believe. 🤎
I got a few despite how much I don't deserve it. This shit is exactly what it's like being a fucking friend. Especially from someone that doesn't know how to let their friends know how much they mean
This song actually predates Golden Girls by about eight years. It not only reminds me of Golden Girls, but of the wonderful people that I have loved and lost over the last 60 years. The part where he sings about "when we die and float away" means more now that Betty White is gone.
I would like to dedicate this song to all of our wonderful pets, who accompany us through life in true, loyal friendship - THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND!!! ❤
I had to comment. I lost my little buddy, Logan, and Australian Shephard, last month. As a disabled vet he was me service dog and literally saved my life twice. Asked him to visit me in my dream. This song was the first thing I thought of in the morning. Hadn't heard in in years. AMAZING!! Man's best friend. I've listened to it 20 times at least today.
This is the song that played on the radio when we went to the vet with my furbaby when she was very ill. We had been managing her illness quite well for a few years, but I knew this time it was time to say goodbye😢
@@rachelcruickshank9254 As a look over at my monitor and say to my Good Boy Logan, "Thank you for being my friend." I thought I was going crazy when in the back of the house I could hear him walking and his tag rattling lasting 3 seconds the other day. They are still with us.

Yes... You're right! I get miracles every day, calculating the odds of them happening by chance... Less than picking one atom in the universe and randomly picking it again... 50 times in a row... God is love, and love is eternal.
I dedicate this song to my childhood friends , we had such fun times hanging out and enjoying our youth and though we have lost touch I will always remember the fun times we had.
Rose: I thought these took place in 1912? Sophia: So what? There are 365 other days I can have these memories! Anywho, picture it... Sicily 1916... A beautiful Sicilian girl...
Rest in peace betty. You were a huge part of my childhood. And a big part of my life in general. Let's make 2022 better than these past couple years. In memory of Betty White
"I'm not ashamed to say I hope it will always be this way" This line. This hit me so hard, knowing I spent my life feeling like Betty was gonna be with us forever. In my heart of hearts I knew this day had to come but I could have never been prepared, and especially when she was so close to 100. Fate is so cruel. You and the rest of the Golden Girls will forever shine down on us, and in turn we will always treasure the times you gave us and the moments captured in time that will last forever. We all miss you.
@@mariaanadeespana9048 the words of someone so vile and heartless mean nothing to me. You act as though one requires to meet someone in person in order to grieve, and it's such a closed mindset. Clearly, you didn't care enough to know her. Not even just acting where she brought such lovable characters to life, but if you had seen her guest appearances on game shows, if you had watched her own show, you could truly see into her heart. To have the audacity to call her racist when she, the 1st of her kind, gave more air time to a black man on her show at the sacrifice of it getting cancelled is simply baffling to me. Maybe the one who needs to grow up and open their heart is you.

Your dad was so very right. I was told something similar when I was a child and it sounded crazy. Now, at the age of 42, I see just how true those words were. They resonate with me when I'm going through and I look around but all my "friends" have disappeared.
Loved the Golden Girls
Thank you to all who have been a friend to me on my journey through this life! ✌️❤️☀️!
Damn rite my brother man excellently expressed
R.I.P. to an excellent and underrated songwriter Andrew Gold
Gone too soon😞
Well stated to a man I'd be proud to call a friend
Absolutely, such a shame. He wrote great songs.
Great background vocalist, along with Kenny Edwards, on Linda Ronstadt's classic song "Heat Wave"--they added a lot to that song (to go with Ronstadt's great singing) to make it the hit that it was !!
Andrew Gold was an awesome musician who wrote songs that touched the souls of so many. This is one of my favorites.
Thanks Andrew
My grandmother and I used to watch Golden Girls together when I was a child; both she and Betty White passed away this year. I’m thankful to end 2021 with a beautiful, healthy family, and the hope that Betty and Peggy Ann are shining brightly together in the Cosmos.
“And when we die and float away
Into the night, the Milky Way
You'll hear me call as we ascend
I'll see you there, then once again
Thank you for being a friend.”
I was born in 85 and this is the first time I've heard the whole song. But I'm glad I did. When your in a situation like I am all I can ask for is a friend. And I thank those who have been.
This was a bran New song in 1978 i waz 18
I don't have any friends (right now...yet)...but I still believe there is still good in this world...xx ❤❤
Everyone need a or has friends .I can be your friend
I would be happy to have you as a friend
My wife sang this to me tonight. Never heard it before and then she showed me this video. Instant new favorite.
And to my wife: thank you for being my friend
Coolest comment 🧡🤗🧡

☺☺☺☺👍
I saw Andrew gold and Linda Ronstadt in concert in Florida. Loved it
Lost my best friend, my big ol' mopey boxer. He was with me through all my personal obstacles since junior high. Rest in Peace, Beemer
So very sorry for your loss...you'll see him again
🙏🙏🙏🙏
God blessed you with Beemer for a reason, and now Beemer is drooling over you now in Dog Heaven ! ! !
Those are some talented musicians
Master Musicians, Andy was a great talent

Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant 😊
👍
To all my friends who see this, thank you for being a part of my life.
Andrew Gold,
My hat is off to you.
Stand up and take a bow.
Thank you for singing this song.
He can't stand up, he laying down in the grave
If he does, it'll be to eat brains. Get the shotgun ready.
Stando
Nailed it..well said🍻
My best friend loved Golden Girls and passed way to soon. Tonight I miss him very much and am crying sad happy tears listening to this.
Same reason. Rip Betty
Same.
@@MsKatyDidKnot yes same glad I’m not the only one
same. i was cry singing this song and thought i'd look it up.
RiP Andrew Gold and Betty White. A great song.
I can't believe Betty is gone. A week ago I was thinking that she was almost 100. You can argue she was the greatest and best and most beloved actress to ever live. Loved by everyone and all. Truly defines the word legend.
You didn’t know her, grow up. She was a racist old lady anyways.
It’s like a dream she died miss her
You can't believe she is gone? She was 99!
Rest in Peace Betty White!
She was an evil woman !
How many if us can truly say they have a friend worthy of this song? If you do then you're very lucky. It's a beautiful tribute to friendship.
Wish I had one
@@invasion1824 Prayers will be lifted on your behalf that you may be blessed with a true friend here on this earth. I hope you can trust that there is a True Friend always there for all who choose to believe. 🤎
I got a few despite how much I don't deserve it. This shit is exactly what it's like being a fucking friend. Especially from someone that doesn't know how to let their friends know how much they mean
Lost my lovely brother 2 weeks ago, this song is so special to me and is so right to play at his funeral soon ❤
So sorry for your loss thoughts and prayers for you and all your family x
I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you and your family are doing well.
May God rest his soul 🙏🏽
This song actually predates Golden Girls by about eight years. It not only reminds me of Golden Girls, but of the wonderful people that I have loved and lost over the last 60 years. The part where he sings about "when we die and float away" means more now that Betty White is gone.
Wow didn't realize that about the song
7. 1978-1985
I'm honored to be the 3,000th person to thank Andrew Gold for this wonderful song that still holds up like gangbusters!
Goodbye Betty White, thank you for being America's living treasure. Though you are no longer living, you will always be a treasure.
I would like to dedicate this song to all of our wonderful pets, who accompany us through life in true, loyal friendship - THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND!!! ❤
❤our beautiful furr ball babies
A fabulous comment and so very true
Can't stop crying long enough to say what I want to say...........Thank you Andrew Gold. There are lots of songs I like. But right now........YOU THE MAN. Glad you can't put an emoji cause it would be one filled with tears. Miss you Andrew Gold. You really touched a lot of people with this melody. Thanks:-(
nope...YOU the man for sharing your feelings and vulnerabilities. it takes courage.
peace and love to you. don't ever stop being you. ❤
I AGREE!
Here's that emoji 🥲

I had no idea this was the same chap that sang Lonely Boy. Loved the Golden Girls as a kid!
Rest In Paradise Betty White, finally reunited with your girls ❤️
“Thank you for being a friend”
1922-2021 😢😢
Played this for my Ladyfriend. She's 80; I'm 65. Love her. No Words. She had NEVER heard this song. She CRIED OUT LOUD...
"Ladyfriend" :-D
John Michael Callahan weird
+Nathan Bousquet-Hatcher Not "weird"
Awesome.
I hope one day you have the opportunity & experience to understand, Sincerely
Hope you guys are still together, sharing more songs
This song just made me break down in tears, thinking and Thanking my wife for being my best friend . My best friend for 44 years, since I was 16 years old she and our kids are my life.
The keyboardist looks exactly the same like Mark Ellis, the comedian and long time friend of Kristian Harloff. A member of Collider video and he worked for John Campea.
This song has loved on longer then the original singer. And found new fans thanks to the golden girls.
This is one songwriter who met my taste with practically everything he wrote.
My best friend sent this to me today for my 59th birthday. We met in 3rd grade and I love her like family. Sometimes we don't talk or see each other for years, but we have that special bond that is forever. I love you, Patty. Thank you for being my friend!
Good friends are like that! It doesn’t matter how much time has passed, you can always click again once you see each other!!
We lost a wonderful gem of a songwriter and singer when Andrew Gold died. May he rest in peace and thank you, Andrew, for all the beautiful songs! 🥰
Better be careful listening to this masterpiece this will bring tears to your eyes like how it got me shedding tears at this moment 🥲🥲🥲🥲
When Rue died, my heart sank. Blanche was ALWAYS be MY golden girl
Betty White has just died at the age of 99. What a star... she will be remembered!
As being our friend
One of the best songs of AM radio and continued on due to the Golden Girls... Thank you, Andrew. Thank You, Bea, Rue, Estelle and Betty....
I think this song sounds better on AM radio
TO HONOR LIFE IS TO HONOR LOVE ... THE CIRCLE OF LOVE THAT BRINGS LIFE BACK TOGETHER ... IT'S THE BEATS OF LOVE THAT NEVER STOP'S ...
Yes... You're right!
I get miracles every day, calculating the odds of them happening by chance... Less than picking one atom in the universe and randomly picking it again... 50 times in a row... God is love, and love is eternal.
Played in her band and recorded with Linda Ronstadt in the 70's!
I dedicate this song to my childhood friends , we had such fun times hanging out and enjoying our youth and though we have lost touch I will always remember the fun times we had.
Bless our friends!!
Ya, now youth is gone and everything sucks and the world is shit. At least we have RUclips.
Never heard the full song before.
OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS!
💛💛💛💛

Sophia: So what? There are 365 other days I can have these memories! Anywho, picture it... Sicily 1916... A beautiful Sicilian girl...
This just made me sad asf😭 I wish I was born back then💔 I miss them and somehow feel attached like if I knew them...I need friends😕
Rest in peace betty. You were a huge part of my childhood. And a big part of my life in general. Let's make 2022 better than these past couple years. In memory of Betty White
"I'm not ashamed to say I hope it will always be this way"
This line.
No words. Im in tears 😢.
You didn’t know her, grow up. She was a racist old lady anyways.
@@mariaanadeespana9048 wtf is your damage? You got nothing better to do than copypaste the same mean spirited comment over and over?
@@mariaanadeespana9048 the words of someone so vile and heartless mean nothing to me. You act as though one requires to meet someone in person in order to grieve, and it's such a closed mindset. Clearly, you didn't care enough to know her. Not even just acting where she brought such lovable characters to life, but if you had seen her guest appearances on game shows, if you had watched her own show, you could truly see into her heart. To have the audacity to call her racist when she, the 1st of her kind, gave more air time to a black man on her show at the sacrifice of it getting cancelled is simply baffling to me. Maybe the one who needs to grow up and open their heart is you.
just amazing
One of the best songs ever recorded
With almost two million views in 2019 and less than 500 dislikes this song has really proven to be our friend.
Well said
*TEXT THE LINK TO THIS SONG, TO A GOOD FRIEND OF YOURS RIGHT NOW...They will love you for it.*
RIP Betty White. And I just love the real instruments that are actually being played in this song. I’m 30 and the nostalgia is real
You didn’t know her, grow up. She was a racist old lady anyways.
What does your comment have to do with anything? Grow
Up
I'm so happy that at 30, you really appreciate the musicianship involved with this great song!
The Golden Girls Song, Top 👍
I've lost 4 friends this year .this song touches my heart
Omg when I got to 2:39 I heard this on the radio and it took my breath away it was so beautiful. Fell in love with it! Brought tears to my eyes.
Beautiful piece of music, Andy's best song
And Thank you for the Music Mr. Gold 💛🙏
All these years i only thought the golden girls theme was the original one but boy i was wrong still a great song regardless good music
I think all the dislikes are people that thought this song was written for the golden girls. This, the original, is pure gold.
Liquid Gold!!!!❤❤❤
This is better than the Golden girls version. I just heard it was sampled on the radio today.
Edwin Quinones pure Andrew gold !
Edwin Quinones I absolutely love the Golden Girls but I was drawing a blank on what sitcom I had actually heard this song Until you reminded me. Thank you for jarring my memory. I turn 61 years old today February 25th 2020 and trust me every now and then I need my old memory jarred LOL
Edwin Quinones no shit old man
Betty is surely missed but never forgotten!
One of the very best songs that ever was made. If you want to let a friend just how much they mean to you, send it them and they will appreciate your friendship so very, very much!. God Bless You Andrew Gold for making and recording this inspirational and truly beautiful musical masterpiece!♥
Thank you for singing!
