@@noelg9769 Why not just tow a tiny trailer like a 4x8 WeeRoll camper trailer for the extra stuff? Thar tongue boxes are ridiculously big and in the way.
@travelinted7865 because this way I can still park in single spaces when I need to sleep in town. And I can still handle some rugged terrain if I'm trying to get to a cool campsite or similar.

Well thought out build Noel.👍 I'm working on building out a Durango. You've given be a lot to consider. Really helpful video. I retire in 9 months. I'm sure ready to get out there. I miss those night sky's away from the city. Thanks again!
Congrats on the retirement! Glad I could help and give back. I learned a lot picking through youtube myself. Good luck with your build! You can check out my Things I Love/Would Change About My Build video if you want even more info. And I really like those night skies way out there, too!
I'm currently building my 04 expedition. I love all the room. No more jeeps for me. My winch can go on the front or back. Plug and play. I have a dedicated marine grade battery in the back to run everything. Big winch, solar panels, 2000 watt power inverter. I like my fresh pot of coffee in the morning. 2 ham radios 1 CB radio. I put a new 200 Amp alternator in to run everything. If the power goes out in my house I can run the fridge and some lights. Love what you did. Remember to add up all your power requirements then multiply Xs 2. That's why I put the 200 amp alternator in.
Nice work. I live in a tiny off-grid house now and have been taking longer and longer camping trips for some time. Looking at a Suburban now and this gave me some great ideas.
This is a really nice build! Thank you for the walk through. I'm about to start a similar build in an 09 Suburban for camping near hiking trailheads and at RC events. Doing all the boring (but important) maintenance stuff now but cant wait to get started on the camper conversion.
Looks good! I have quite a few of the same things as you, and was surprised when you said those seatback bags are coolers - I have one and they marketed it as a trash bag. I can see what you mean though, about using them as coolers - they would definitely work for that too. Happy travels.
Neat setup, I have a 2003 Tahoe I'm looking to build out. The voice over I think you called it is much easier to understand. I kept having to adjust my volume prior to the change. I think it was because you turned your head or climbed in and out of the rig. Amazing what you accomplished, I love my micro too. Thank you for sharing. Have a sparkling day...from OR. 🌲🌲🐾🐾
@@noelg9769 hey Noel, thanks for your response. I have an 04 GMC Yukon. I use fuel to cook and batteries for lanterns and head lamps. I’d love to power up a second battery to use electric griddle, electric burner, coffee maker, blender and to power a portable refer. So I guess if you can cover A to Z how extra battery connects to main battery all the way to where converter and power pack along with any links to items. If you haven’t already you can set up Amazon store to make cash from purchases from your links.
I measured and test fit many times until it fit. I'd recommend just making a cardboard template. Mostly jigsaw for the cuts. Power carved the roundover. Router and roundover bit would be easier. It's all one unit assembled inside the suburban in pieces. In the front I have brackets that connect to the original attachment point for the middle row of seats. 200lb rated zip ties in back to the tie down loops. 200lb zip ties at top front to seatbelt attachment point. In back up high, steel handle screwed into suburban frame/roof and secured to birch with pad eye and 200lb zip tie.
Nope. Had to look up what that was, but it hasn't been necessary for me. Probably not as heavy as you might think. Especially after considering the weight lost by removing all the back seats and center console.
The cargo carrier is not Harbor Freight. It's by Reese. I really like the quality. I added a link to it in the description. I also have a video just on putting together the cargo carrier box. You can check that out.
And I did have to remove the front seats to take out the center console. It's not complicated, mostly bolts. Just takes work because the seats and center console are heavy. And to avoid any issues, I disconnected the car battery before unplugging the electrical harness to the seats.
I was quite surprised that you said that you said that your build was 28-32K, was that including the price of the van, it seemed high compared to what other people spent, but maybe all the things you did to make it 4 x 4 made it expensive.
Yeah, that includes the price of the suburban, repairs that were needed for the vehicle, the tools I bought, the off-road upgrades, the audio/electrical additions and the whole build. Everything.
All the way from Mexico to Alaska.. one heck of a set up!
Yeah, man! Thanks!
Nice! I built out my Suburban as a full-time rig, so I had to use 1/2" plywood to cut down on the weight. I love the look of the 3/4" wood, though.
Nice build. Well thought out. Maximum use of space. Well done sir. 👍
Love the amount of space that you left yourself. So many people just stuff the back until they're pretty much sleeping in a coffin! Awesome
Yeah, I agree. Thanks!
Your lockbox is underrated! So cool that you were able to incorporate one into your build.
Thanks! I love having it, too!

Look at the Transit Connect, then.
Bravo! I can easily tell how well thought out and executed. I travel 9 months a year in a Lexus 470 and have some of the same setups. Be safe friend!
This is amazing! Enjoy your travels!
Thank you!
Way to make it your own, your personality comes through big time.

Solid electrical walk through. Love the gas hinges for storage
Thanks, dude! Glad the electrical walk through worked for you. And yeah, the gas struts make the storage access easier.
Love the solar panels.
Great! I think they're cool, too!
The tool box on the trailer hitch basket is a damn good idea! May have to copy this
Thanks! And go for it, it's been great!
Inspiring brother! I got a 2006 Suburban. This helped answer a lot of questions I have had. Thanks!
Awesome. Glad I could help!
Thanks for the tour. I currently own a Jeep XJ but I'm a big guy and I want to upgrade to a Suburban. You gave me some good ideas!

I so miss camping and being out in the woods.
Good job. Peace

I put a set of mile star patagonia tires on my expedition. It really gave the rig a great look. A beast. A look that means business.

excellent, very practical use of space.

Thanks! And good luck!
Good Job. one day i want to build something like that!
Great woodworking, Sir!
Thanks!
I'd love some info about where to find the locking storage box under the bed platform!
I added an Amazon link to it in the description! Thanks for watching!
I run the same rig . Awesome layout for traveling. Thank you. Ron

Love your set up! One of the best I've seen yet.

Can you do a video on how you hooked up to your alternator along with links
Is there a specific part of the process you want me to go over?

Thanks!
Love the setup! Love the guitar compartment! 🎶 🎸
Awesome! Glad you loved it!
Awesome set up.
Thanks!
Hey I love how you have your bed side ways than the long way and what size is your bed
My bed sleeps front to back. The bed platform is 4 ft wide and a little over 6ft long. And the mattress is a little smaller than that.
Hit me with a volume change up like that again….I’ll scream so loud it rattles your brain. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ahahaha. I know! So sorry! Some other people said that earlier too. I tried to be better about it on my later videos.

Great build. One question, how did you get the 3/4 birch side cabinet built and attached?

@@noelg9769 Thank you very much. I am getting started on my build soon. That extra storage space is great.
Could you do this with a Tahoe or a ford expedition?
They're a little but smaller. So you'd have to make some changes. But you could definitely do something!
Nice!!!!!
Thanks!
Just subbed.
Yo, you forgot to tell us where you keep your weights, or you just lift the whole rig to keep in shape?
Haha! Thanks! Just climbing those rocks!
How do you cover windows for privacy?
I have window covers. For the windshield and front 4 windows, I bought mine from weather tech. I made the ones for the rest of the rear windows.
Looks great! Man you are loaded heavy. Did you delete the AFM?
Nope. Had to look up what that was, but it hasn't been necessary for me. Probably not as heavy as you might think. Especially after considering the weight lost by removing all the back seats and center console.
How hard was it to remove the center console? Did y have to remove the seats to do it? Is your cargo carrier from harbor freight?
