You certainly had it rough Andy. Tent looked like it stood well. I was up on Melbreak last Friday (4th Oct) and seen your post on Facebook about the wind speed. Melbreak was supposed to be only 10mph on top, but it was definitely a lot higher. Great video👍

I love seeing old workings Andy and agree with you, they’re part of our heritage.
Greenside mine was predominantly producing lead but a smaller amount of silver was also mined there.
Keep those videos coming, you and Solo Sumiteer are my two favourites.

Good job it wasn’t raining too.

The winds this year have been bad, one low after the other. Not much fun trying to sleep when the tents flapping. Great video as always, very informative ❤

This just shows you have to be prepared even if not forecast, it happened to me once but was OK in the Helm 1, you make a good point about being knackered on the drive home after a night like that....and wow, so so cold wind chill and its only October!

Nice one Andy, glad I stayed in the Peaks night after, it was crackin' up Grinnah. It's no fun just laid looking at tent walls in that, absolutely right about that. Cheers for sharing, David 👍

Cracking video, I remember reading your Strava post when you showed the wind speeds 😳 thought you may have flown over Peak District last night for the Aurora, happening more and more these days, sun mustn’t be happy if it’s sending that many flares out 🤯

In February I went up Sticks Pass from the other side and walked some of the Dodds. I wanted to camp on Raise but it was blowing in the 50s and gusting up into the 60s, people coming down the hills on their bums!
I headed over to Sheffield Pike and then dropped into those mine works on the flat bit and camped in one of the circular tips. The top of my tent was below the lip, totally sheltered. It was a really good camp. Saw folk trying to head up to Helvellyn though and it was brutal winds.

Great video Andy. I was camped by the ski hut a few weeks back, dodging the wind. A storm hit the next morning, lightning blots & torrential rain so had to evacuate the mountain.
All makes for a great adventure. Keep up the great work 👍

That’s our Christmas house!! We’ve stayed in several of them over the years, very nice too. Coppermines mountain cottages they are called.
Loving the orange ensemble. Love this one, very familiar for us.

They were mining for lead in greenside. The two large holes you pointed out are not where quarrying were done, but the result of a massive collapse inside the mine.

Walked up Abbey Brook and camped at Cartledge Stones. You’re right it’s a fab pitch, great sunset last night, even a Little Rock to sit on. Mind you did have a problem with some of pegs, it’s a bit rocky. You can see it’s well used as there’s a lot of scorched grass rings. Forecast was good for both days MWIS 90% cloud free yet last night rained all night, 30mph gusts, wind changed direction at about 2am after I’d pitched the tail into the wind, and rain and clagg going back over Back Tor, so forecast way out. I normally find MWIS bang on. Thanks for showing us that pitch it’s fab!

Ps as I laid there in the tent listening to the gusts I wondered, is this the tail end of the Florida Hurricane 😮 as you do in the middle of the night!

Hi Andy, seems like you had a rough night. I think me and Mossy were out the following night on Brandreth. We had a rough night, not quite as bad as that though.
    All the best mate 😀🥾🏕️⛰💨

Well done for lasting the night . Id have been bricking it. I had the chinook and now im thinking i need another, amazingly stable! What was the noise , the vent vibrating ? Great stuff even if its type 2 fun. A

  • @Olan...
    @Olan... День назад

The Chinook looks like it can cope very well in strong winds, which is great for such a light tent, what was that vibrating noise Andy ? Was it something that you could easily address ? I had a similar noise with my summer tent the Six Moons Luna Solo and it was caused when the tent fabric wasn't equally tensioned and a ridge kind of formed. I have to keep it drum tight to prevent the vibrating noise which means if its humid i have to give the guylines a tweek at least once during the night. Thanks for taking us along 👍

Had the wind ripped a tab off your tent that holds it to the poles, I noticed one wasn't connected to the pole.

I went up helvellyn via striding edge and did a camp at Red Tarn Thursday night and all the weather apps were saying 10mph wind with 15mph gusts all night and I registered 45mph at Red Tarn it was a long brutal night.

After watching the full video I noticed this was Thursday night also. I must have just missed you in the car park at glenridding. I was cursing the weather man all night. Like you said I bet I had 20 mins sleep all night then a 125 mile drive back to Yorkshire. Glad someone else survived the night and I'm not the only mad one around here 😂
