Another serious bang for the buck is Longines Hydroconquest. Same base movement as the base of Breitling Colt, Superocean, etc. 880 Pounds Sterling. 1275 American. A heavily discounted Colt won't even come close to the price and the performance is virtually identical. I own both and have been testing them since last summer.
That is not how a Telemeter works. It measures the difference in time, between when you see the canon fire and when you hear it. Or, with lightning, between the flash and the thunder. it will show you the distance at which the lightning strikes.
I think you are an engineer; very good observation; the scale is at the sound speed, considering the speed of the light is , only for this calculations, as infinite vs., speed of the sound, then you get where is the “ enemy” or the cannons ....... of course WW I ands WW II......
i recently got a hamilton pan europ and it is excellent quality for a great price. i have had a philip watch swiss auto. with power reserve sub dial for more than 9 years and it still works and looks like new and i have not needed to have it serviced. i have gotten many compliments and questions about it over the years and it has withstood being banged around quite a bit. also i have had good luck with jacques lemans swiss models which are well made for a reasonable price, good videos
Currently the tudor is my grail watch/next purchase (blue dial) however the longines ld looks amazing and wouod easily serve as dress/diver in one timepiece thanks for the info
Mate, telemeter dial is used to measure distance between stuff you can see and hear. For example lighting and thunder, or in your example flash and sound for exploding shell. No complaints about picks, I'd probably pick no-date LLD instead of date one. On the other hand a diver watch with almost no lume...
Gr8 videos. Have you considered reviewing Alpinas? I've seen the brand increase its presence in Asia and Europe especially. Frederic Constant is the parent. There price point is "entry luxury," more sports appeal but great balance of styles within their line. Check them out...Claridges and Harrods' has them in the boutiques.
Great video Armand & sorry about posting on a video that is months old, really miss my Sinn U1 but it was one that had to go to make room for a PAM00024. The Longines has been a favorite of mine for years and at a super price, I'm not really sure why I haven't picked one up after wanting one for years...
The longines Legend Diver is my beach / bash watch. Tough, beautiful and I get random compliments many times from random people. I suggest you opt for the one with the rubber bracelet and clasp buckle. Makes it even a tougher basher at no extra charge. The leatherish (i dont think its real leather) bracelet is for the dress side of it, can handle water, but not sand, and rough wear and tear. It also leaves your wrist wet and soggy, whereas the rubber bracelet has grooves to lets water get out from between your wrist and the bracelet, and let air in to keep your wrist dry. Much more comfortable.
Hey Armand, just come across your channel, excellent output, and very accurate. I would also add the new Christopher Ward trident 600 range (£600-£900) and the Oris Acquis small second diver with the sunburst dial (£1450), either way, this is a very good vid, I've subscribed :) Mike
+The Watch Watcher: Thank you for such a kind comment, these are really appreciated! I agree that the small second Oris is wonderful piece and very good value. The only reason why I didn't mention the Christopher Ward is that though it is a great watch of very high quality, its resale value tends to be quite poor.
how about the CW C60 Trident Chronometer 600? It packs lots of features (like in house movement, 120 hours power reserve, COSC certification) for a very affordable price. I agree with you on the resale value though (just seen one on chrono24 for half the price, one year old).
really nice video.. I was looking for this type of video for awhile, cause luxury brands normally demand a high price for its brand and history prestige. "If none of us forked over $6,000 for an IWC Aquatimer, they wouldn't sell for that price."
I would love for someone to jump out of the box and discuss women's watches. We love watches also but the market has pathetically ignored this 51% of the watch market. I really like your discussions Armand.
Trevor Bohnsack they are reportedly staying clear of the day to day business. That is a good thing. Glycine could actually benefit from IWG money supply.
Dude Tuder you show is ETA. That Junghans is nice but don't say something like" it might become collectable. It sounds wrong for many many reasons especially when you talk about mass produced by some obscure company watch under 2k. I was recently meditating over Sinn 910. Could buy it for 1/2 original price. MSRP over $6k. Rattrapante. 300 watches WW but that 3rd pusher on other side of the watch weird me out and I bought Omega Speedy instead. There is collectables and there is rare watches no one wonna buy. Huge difference.
Nice video, but just a clarification. The Sinn tegimenting process hardens to 1200 vickers, about 5-6 times harder than the normal stainless steel, not 9 times. Sinn makes a great watch, but it is the Bremont hardening system is about 9 times harder at 2000 vickers.
+john doe: Thank you for the comment. That was very helpful as I had read elsewhere that the latest tegimenting increased hardness by 9 times. I am glad that I was corrected as I do not wish to give false information to viewers.
Armand The Watch Guy There is a tremendous amount of information out there and watch companies are innovating at probably one of the fastest paces in history. It can be hard to stay abreast of all of it. Thanks again for making the video.
It would be more suitable for a soldier to measure the time between the muzzle flash and bang instead of the bang and moment the shell hits the ground. ;) It's the same as during a thunderstorm. You see the lighting and immediately start to count the seconds between the thunder. Device the seconds by 3 and you know how far the thunderstorm is away from you (in kilometres). You did a nice choice. I'm thinking about brands like Orient or Seiko. For €100-200 you've got a lot bang for your buck...
+Claus-L. Muller (CLMac66): I see what you mean about the use of a Telemeter on the watch. The only reason I can see is for doing it by time between flash and the arrival of the shell is that, at closer range, the flash and bang would come in extremely near succession.
I don't think, that recreational divers worry much about their 316L watches rusting. and as far as quality of movents inside? All Swatch group brands tend to use ETA / Valjoux, or Lemania movements, often modified in-house. Others, like Sinn, use Sellita SW200 movements, or unmolested ETA2824-2 movements. There are many brands in Switzerland, or Germany, that produce excellent watches at reasonable price, but the large chunk of the watch price lies in the brand value and the potential resale value. Hence the Rolex Sumariner has similar specification and uses similar materials to Longines Legend Diver? Yet one sells for £6,750 and has an instant resale value of £9,000 .... and other sells for £1,850 (on metal bracelet) and has the instant resale value of £1,300. If anything, the Longines Legend Diver movement "based on" ETA2892-A2 ( in-house cal.L888), is better finished than Rolex movement and just as accurate. What it comes down to is "brand value" and public perception.
You need to get your facts right, the Pelagos you feature is the Version 1 which has an 2824-2 ETA movement not the in house movement currently housed in the Version 2.
+Tony Smith: You are absolutely right, the in house version features 5 lines of text, not 2. I apologise for the confusion but this was the best image of the dial I could find in order to illustrate what an excellent watch it is.
+officialpartychannel: Thanks for the comment. I would personally say that the Steinhart is actually not brilliant for the money and is most definitely not a Submariner for the 21st century (a place, in my opinion, inhabited by the Tudor Pelagos) . This is based on the fact that, having owned one, the case was very bizarrely finished and the bracelet was not very well made. Furthermore, the parts did not match at all in terms of colour and the ergonomics of the watch made it somewhat uncomfortable. This really isn't helped either by very questionable customer service.
+Armand The Watch Guy mine has none of these issues. The bracelet isn't the best but it's functional and at the moment I wear it on a bond nato, which looks great.
I really enjoy your well thought out videos . One suggestion for your consideration : When presenting a list in your videos (Best of...), show the results right up front. I am interested in the list, but don't always have 15 or 20 minutes to view the entire presentation . Show me the results, and I can view details now or later, Meanwhile, keep up the good work . Much appreciated .
Tudor Pelagos versus the Rolex Submariner- fast micro adjust bracelet-check. Ceramic bezel-check. Helium release valve- only on the Tudor-advantage Tudor. Certified chronometer-check, but Rolex does do their own in-house "superb" standard- advantage Rolex. Two straps with the Tudor-advantage Tudor. Longer warranty- advantage Rolex. The Rolex is $4000 more- why? Can anyone quantify this?
you do pay for the name. but, the bracelet is superior on the sub. so confortable o the wrist, and doesnt look good (in my opinion) on anything but the oyster. the movement is proven the test of time, the tudor hasnt. sub is thinner on the wrist and more refined. but the tudor has a better power reserve. the sub has better value retention as well. both are great watches and the value is determined by the owner
The Pelagos is a far better looking watch for 1/2 the sub price. 42mm is a better size these days. About 400,000 subs are machine made per year. $8,000?
Marketing budget of Rolex was $56m for the US market only in 2014 while Tudor spent $12m. Marketing costs are naturally part of the cost basis that is being handed down to the customers. So that's what you pay for brand recognition.
Longines maybe value but their QC is shocking, I've seen numerous issues with dust particles, movement issues, hands scratched. Would never bother going near them from experience. By the by the Pelagos Bracelet is not remotely polished. I just picked up a Speedmaster FOIS for £3K which I don't think anything beats for value
+Maher Ali: Thanks for the question. In my opinion, Tissot watches are nicely made but are definitely not very good value. They are well made but do not hold their resale value very well at all. Equally, service prices have gone up greatly recently. However, they a large brand and will be easy to work with if you are happy with the issues I have said. I hope that this helps.
+robbiecox: I was told 2 weeks ago that Steinhart had seen that there was a problem with the watch (6 weeks after they received it) and that they were going to replace the whole movement. They said that they would receive another movement at some point. Since then it has been radio silence and I am, sadly, still convinced about my views of Steinhart as a brand.
Again if your looking for best quality and value for money look no further than vintage Omegas pie-pan constellation watches they have chronometer caliber movnts adjust to 5 positions all in-house and all this can still be serviced by Omega themselves, a really great example can cost as little as £1,400 which is a bargin for what your getting inc resale value too.
There is no such thing as a "normal stainless still" Which SS are you talking about? The one utensils are made of, or my premium powdered alloy SS knives are made of? 4 years later and the LLD is still one of the best luxury bargains out there.
A vintage Tudor wold be a grail to me, lol. But the blue Pelegos is to die for. Great upload!
Hello Greg B, how has the hydroconquest been treating you? I have been looking into buying one but am put off by the reviews regarding poor lume.
That is not how a Telemeter works. It measures the difference in time, between when you see the canon fire and when you hear it. Or, with lightning, between the flash and the thunder. it will show you the distance at which the lightning strikes.
You start the chronograph, when you see the flash or the nozzle, and stop it when you hear the bang.

The Telemeter you reviewed, is called the Junghans Watch Company, from the Black Forrest in Germany. Almost 160 years-old.

Great video. I bought a Jean Richard that has a similar dial to the Junghans. Thanks for making me spend more money. I love it.

The Junghans will be very useful next time I am on the battlefield.....I suppose.
true
Reached out to Longines on the Legend Diver: the bezel CAN be adjusted underwater, the time/date/wind cannot.
Rechecked with Longines.... Will delete this comment, they misunderstood my original question I guess. Bezel cannot be adjusted underwater :/
@Karl Sinkovits not the date, the dive bezel for elapsed underwater time
Great video..I also like Eterna for the money...they are regulated as well.
Hi Armand , I just bought it recently Atlantic Art Deco WorldMaster , what do you think about this brand ? Thank you .

Great rundown of watches in this range.
Very nice job on the section and the video. Keep up the good work.

Gotta add that Glycine in the list ..Especially the Airman!
Not anymore! Fucking INVICTA bought them out... RIP Glycine, you will be missed
+gulfmen86 really? Aw well.. Still love the existing combat sub and airman..
Chris Churchill Still keeping the original airman.. Thing is still one of my favorites
Chris Churchill Yes! Hope Invicta doesn't butcher the brand.. Time will tell.
Trevor Bohnsack they are reportedly staying clear of the day to day business. That is a good thing. Glycine could actually benefit from IWG money supply.
Very nice selections! How about the Nomos Glashutte Orion?
+Leigh Todd: That's an excellent suggestion! I think that Nomos are really making some tremendous watches at the moment.
Dude Tuder you show is ETA.

If it's so close you don't need to measure anymore! ;)
I think you may want to consider the Omega Speedmaster. A very solid versatile watch.
Agreed bro.. 💯%!
Great vids, subscribed, seiko sea urchin, maybe or the skx 007!

Steinhart ocean one titanium 500 Premium has the most features for the money. Some call it the 21st century Submariner and I have to agree with them.

The Tudor is a great watch.
I think a much over looked watch of very good quality and price is Roamer.
For me, Submarine has a reasonable price.
Aye and my Cartier is 419 steel.
what about Frederique Constant? they are great !!!
+Amit from Israel: Very good point, Frederique Constant do make very good watches. However, resale value can be surprisingly low.
Is the 30 on the Longines meant to be upside down? Looks a bit odd!
The inner besel rotates with the upper crown.
I agree with the Blue Pelagos, but everything else I really do not.
that's because the pelagos is the only watch that isn't crap
Combien coûte toutes ces belles montres ?
