Add-on Tips 1) Buying durian online/deliveries are common these days. For deliveries, buy from reputable stalls to be safe ;) 2) Ideal size for durian is between 1.5 - 2kg. If it si too big, the taste may not be as strong 3) DO not eat durians that are sour (sng). They have gone bad and will cause stomach upset Do give more tips in the comments. I will add on to this list Procedure at Durian stall 1) Act like passer by 2) Show a not interested face 3) Durian seller will start to engage you and "recommend" you certain durian 4) Tell him u are just window shopping 5) At the mean time, look at durian on rack and check if they are MSW (base on the identifers in the video) 6) Once confirm it is MSW, start choosing durian (use eye only to search for round durian on the rack) 7) if u just tell the durian seller u want MSW directly, they will pick and choose for you - you may not get the round shape ones. 8) once you chosen the durian you want. Inform durian seller and say i want this one. ask how much is it? 9) When he take the durian, ask him this durian good or not. got bao jiak(quality gurantee)? He will say yes 10) Then ask him to dehusk and pack in box. This is the time i stand beside and see him pack. Make sure all the meat is ripe. If u see pale looking white meat , tell him it looks un-ripe, then use your finger to press on the durian meat. if it is hard ...u are fully justified to ask for replacement (he alreayd say bao jiak - quiality assurance)
Do you have any recommendations on where to get MSW? I know you can Google but nowadays alot of those top 10 places to get MSW lists tends to be paid for so I thought maybe your own perhaps more authentic list of places to get durians.
For confirm good ones, you can try Ah Seng. But it will be pricier. If you wanna get them at a good price, you can go to any durian stalls near your house and follow the steps tips from my Video in my Pinned Comment. Exploring and finding good durian at a good price is part of the fun. Anyway durian price is good now. Good time to start eating. Can find decent quality at around $18/kg.
@@SimpliciousFood thank you! Today I bought a prepack one for $18. The meat ended up being quite dry. And last week, I bought another prepacked one for $18 that turns out not to be MSW. These bad experiences motivated me to look up on how to pick MSW properly and chance upon your video. 🙂
@@teoshijie3124 prepack ones are usually the rejected and overnight ones. Try to buy fresh one. MSW should have thick thorns and a star shape at the bottom.
@@SimpliciousFood Ahh no wonder! When i buy the prepacked ones, they do look bright yellow but when I went back to eat, it tasted dry. I wasn't confident in choosing my own durian so i thought I will be better to look at the meat of the prepacked ones. But after watching your video, i know what to do! also meat should be bright yellow. should not be orange or pale in color. You can look at the meat when the seller open for other buyers
