Great to see you two together, really énjoyed this one. Felt a bit sentimental seeing the SBGX259, did own that watch for more than half a year. It s a beast of a watch and offers quite a lot. Maybe have to give GS another try one day. Keep them up and look forward to a part 2. Best, Konstantin 🙏🏻
Yeah man it might be time to give GS another look, in the next part we'll be going through even more models so perhaps there you'll find the best Grand Seiko for you :)
Thanks for the support, Konstantin 🙂 Fred did an incredible job with this video! It's so well edited! Sad to hear you no longer have the SBGX259. I remember watching your reveal video 🙂
Man, this video is so well edited. You've put in a lot of time and I really hope you are well rewarded! Looking forward to seeing your creative side come through again in part 2 🙂🙌
My favorite watch is also from Seiko company, the Credor Eichi II. I have experienced some of the best watches in the industry (not only Swiss, also German, English, Dutch and others). But when I was ready to spend some sort of money for a really good watch, I chose it over all other great choices. Japanese are able to compete with anyone in the high horology and they have their special aesthetics and philosophy. I am a big fan of them.
Unfortunately not, but I'd love to. I've been following them since the initial tease for the Antarctique, and the history (with them being named after the original patner of Patek) is really interesting. It's like they're from the alternate timeline where Patek stayed with Czapek instead of partnering with Philippe. Hopefully soon I can get hands on with them, their designs are really beautiful & their new movement is like nothing I've ever seen so I can imagine how good they must be in the metal. If you know anyone at Czapek or who owns one then let them know I'm happy to trade a kidney to review one :D
@@ShahLusso I wish I knew someone at czapek but your right about their history and the movement. It's a personal grail brand of mine so one day if I can land one I'll send in to you for review if you haven't got hold of one yet
Nice DFB-Shirt Wannabe! Best regards from Berlin/Germany... ;-) Getting back to the topic: GS is the most innovative industrial watch maker in recent years. They have movements with HAQ, Highbeat, SpringDrive - and the 9T82 (Kinetik chrono) was a GS movement without GS on the dial. Also the current innovations on their 9S and 9R calibers are great and highly underrated by the public yet. Yes, i am a fanboy ;-) But: The best Quartz movements are made by Citizen, have a look on the A060 (perpetual calendar, "perpetual" energy with no battery change needed, hidden power reserve indicator, independent setting of the hour hand, sleep modus...).
Thanks @Alexander! I used to follow the Bundesliga and DFB since I was a kid. My interest has waned a bit since Lahm and Schweinsteiger retired (grew up watching them). Seiko/GS is incredible! Thanks for sharing, my friend! Yes Citizen has taken the crown with their amazing Quartz halo pieces haha
Seiko invented quartz, so taking it to the next level and sticking with it makes sense. It's a quartz watch you can actually be proud of wearing! And regardless of which GS movement powers a particular model, the incredible light play off of the hand polished cases, indices and hands is breathtakingly eye catching on ALL models. The key is to experience one in person, and then you'll instantly know why GS is so special.
So true, their finishing really is something else. I'll definitely need to get hands on with more Grand Seikos...might even catch the bug an have to add one to my collection :D
@@ShahLusso I hope you do. There is no brand in its price range that can touch the case and dial finishing. In fact very few if any at several times the price either. Enjoy getting to know the brand. And Engineer Wannabe is such a good guy. Glad you guys could get together.
Yeah, it really was a great opportunity to get to know Engineer Wannabe, really nice guy, and hearing about how he progressed and got into Grand Seiko made for a great introduction to the brand & collecting philosophy behind it
The push that Seiko made to beat the Swiss in the 1960s is very real. They expended considerable effort to win which they did at two different trials which the Swiss subsequently cancelled for good the following year. This a great write-up: watchesbysjx.com/2013/06/explaining-seikos-legendary-history-in-swiss-chronometer-trials-with-live-pictures-of-its-landmark-astronomical-observatory-chronometer.html Then there was the race for the first automatic chronograph in 1969 which is another great story.
What better way to beat the Swiss at their own game than producing a watch so accurate they just call off the trials altogether - the irony of course being the only time the Swiss beat them was by introducing their own quartz movement...then when Seiko turned to quartz the Swiss watch industry nearly collapsed, no doubt Seiko & GS have more than proven they can go toe to toe with the best of the Swiss and then some

Thanks man, it was great reliving our conversation while editing the video, can't wait to finish up & post Part II :D
Wow, l wish have an AD like that. I like GS for the same reasons. Now, there's the KS coming. Good conversation.
Yeah, it'd be a great way to cycle through watches faster without losing too much money, plus would make for a quicker easier transaction too
Glad to see my friends collab! Great video guys!!
Thanks man! Any GS grails for you on the horizon?
@@ShahLusso I wish 😂

@@engineer_wannabe Always my friend!
Two of the most insightful watch RUclips channels collaborate. Great, great stuff.
Thanks! Was great having Engineer Wannabe on to share his experience & knowledge :)
Great video from a great collab about an awesome watch brand. I enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks! It was great learning more about GS for me too & glad you liked the video :)

The Eichi II is absolutely stunning, and you’re right the Japanese really have a unique approach to design and engineering

🎉 Informative! This is definitely not my thing but it sounds Interesting to know how people are so driven to such particular watches/brands.
For sure, some brands have really dedicated followings!
Very cool video
