"In the day" I bought a cassette of Man, only because the cover looked so good. after a very short time listening, I realised I wasn't that keen. The cassette went in the glove box, fell under the front seat, and got kicked about, but never damaged. After a massive car cleaning, found this dirty cassette and decided to play it. The volume went up and up. What a fookin amazing sound, god knows why I hadn't listened earlier. Now today I still listen to Man and think they are awesome.
I wonder if they realise how really good they are even among the best they stand out in this genre. The guitar players know a thing or two about what there are doing, so do the rest. There are a lot tight bands these days, but Man has one of the tightest endings at a level of some best classical orchestras. How they finish the C'mon song is a masterpiece. Astonishing. they still keep that true rock spirit.
I'll never forget seeing Man play at the Oval Rockhouse in Norwich, (though I have forgotten when! Maybe early 90s?) There was the band, me and Steve, and 2 others behind us. Yes, the audience was the same size as the band! Did that put the lads off who had come all the way from Wales to the east of England to perform for 4 people? Did it fuck! They absolutely stormed it as if they were playing the headline at Glastonbury! These men are legends! ❤️
In Spain was also heard in the 70's. Rhinos, Winos and lunatics fantastic album.A legacy from future generations. John Cipollina joined to the band from a fantastic Live album. Greetings from Barcelona.
Many of the guitar solos had to be overdubbed by Mickey Jones in the studio for that live album - Cipolina was far too loud and not on form but did have one good solo which was kept on the release.
As far as I know, Cipollina only participated in this live album, Maximun Darkness, and in some shows as a guest. As far as I know he didn't join the band...correct me if I'm wrong.
Love and Peace Revolution is never ending 🤘✌✌✌
Hi, friend. I'm 66 years old and I'm from Brazil. My first time hearing Man was exactly the song C'mon at a BBC concert. Since then I became a fan. All the best.
I listened to this band many years ago, I am pleased to hear them and to know that they are still on the path of good pub rock, it is incredible to see Martin Ace.
Re. comments about sons of original band members: the line-up is given in one of the comments, which clarifies. If it helps; Martin's son Josh on second guitar. Micky's son George was the first "son" in the band, from around 2003 when Micky was ill, but there was a split in 2008, and George and drummer Bob Richards formed "Son of Man" - another excellent band with two albums to their name. Drummer Shane is a relatively recent addition here (2017?) and in my view is excellent and really brings some variety as well as "ooomph" to the sound. James and the Aces have been a unit since 2009, with the addition of 70s member Phil Ryan on keys 2015-16, and following his sad death, 70s member Malcolm Morley on keys since then. Sadle absent here but, we are promised, will be at the London gig on 3rd September, Half Moon, Putney. Thanks for posting this film, they are even better live !
Sorry Oliver, maybe you was taking about a 2021 gig at The Half Moon 🌙 Putney, they are playing tonight 10 of September/22 at the same venue. Apologies buddy.
Wahnsinn!!!!
I saw Man many times in the 70s. They were brilliant. Saw this line-up at The Robin 2 in Bilston in March 2023. They were brilliant too! They are really keeping the Man legacy alive and kicking. It was a shame that it was snowing quite heavily that night because I'm sure it put some of the audience off from turning out.

Moves me to tears as I saw the original lineup in 1971 and 1972. R.I.P. Mickey, Deke and Ken.

Martin Ace - Bass/Vocals
James Beck - Guitar/Vocals
