    So weird. I’m noticing the same exact thing. Haven’t lost anything, but every time I stick my fingers in my tank I get a sharp pain in my finger tips

    DUDE LOL just found ya subscribed and you are a COOL Dude lol with the shock stuff. OMG been there done this! I had a damaged heater that I was suspecting causing low shock to some of my fish.. I didn’t get extremely shocked though, just replaced the heater.

      You would have if you were touching a ground (something metal that goes into the actual ground or a ground circuit) this is something called Ground or CPC. Heater manufacturers should be responsible for grounding their meters & pumps to ensure that ac triggers the rcbo / mcb / rcd switch in your consumer unit

    Great video about the voltage and glad you figured it out..yeah i had a similar zapping feeling into my sump on my old system but never lethal to any fishes everything was great...but good to know....

    Hello I have a pump that when I put in a plastic jar with water it doesn't electro shock me but when I put it back in the aquarium it's impossible to touch the water, why so and what to do please? Thank you

    Can I straight away have an earthing from the sump to the ground?
    I was facing some weird shocks when the heater was off during Summers.

    Basically you explained my problem from the beginning to 1:00 minute in, I'm reading 40V when I connect the positive side of my multimeter to my aquarium water and the Earth to my bedroom floor. I tried to isolate it by switching off the power to equipment, with each piece turned off I had planned to monitor the Multimeter to see if the current would suddenly drop off [Which was wishful thinking in my case]. But instead, as I disconnect equipment the current goes down instead of dropping off altogether. I'll disconnect something, the current drops. I disconnect something else, it drops further. My Dad was saying it's pretty serious, I've been trying to figure it out for the past 3 days.

    All of my equipment is plugged into gfci power strips which will automatically trip power off if any stray voltage is in tank I've heard of aquarium owners getting electrocuted really bad because equipment was malfunctioning I do suggest having a check valve on pump so when power trips you dont overflow sump

      I had mine on a surge protector and it happens. It didn’t hurt the Betta but it gave me a low frequency constant voltage when I went to do a water change.

  • @MrJdawg45678

    Much better/safer method for determining which piece of equipment is causing the stray voltage is to plug each piece of equipment into a gfci adapter and seeing if the shutoff feature is triggered.

      I been shocks so many times and I have a home with carpet I did it once barefoot stick my hand in the to one of my corals there was a shorted I didn’t know about because all 10 fishes was swimming beautifully I got shock so hard I had to lay down😢… Gfci outlet 100% percent is the way to go. Tried after and yes do does stop that scary problem and you can. But the only really was to test which one is causing the problem after that is to disconnect all plugs and connect it to your gfci plus one buy one and see which one trips after powering it on.

    I’ve always used those titanium grounding probes for this exact reason. What fish died? Do you think it was because of the electricity going through the tank that caused their deaths?

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  6 лет назад

      I lost 3 clownfish and a dottyback. Pretty much the whole tank except a royal gramma who was always hiding and one of the sump clowns. All the coral was unaffected through the whole ordeal, which makes sense why the water parameters looked good.

    I have a ground wire installed in my sump. I measured stray voltage at 0.37. I have two Tangs with HLL disease. Trying to troubleshoot. Do you think the 0.37 voltage I am reading is anything that is contributing?

    This is the best video on the topic and I'm still confused. Ideally we would have a clear-cut black and white means to detect voltage and current in the water. I turned off my heater and filter because my turtles are tough and can handle it and it's safer than risking a zap for any of us.

    One time i got the shock of my life from my tank....turned out to be the heater. All the fish and corals were fine but not me. I trialed an errored the hard way...luckily i figured the heater was the culprit quickly (3 shocks later) 😅

    Hi, I have two sizes of the Tunze on two different Tanks (also the peninsula) and the blades never ever poped off. Don't know whats wrong with your model. The only 'problem' is going around the corner, if its too fast you loos the whole scrubber. But doing it slow it works perfect and you never get sand inbetween whats great. Give it a chance again 🤗

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  6 лет назад

      Maybe I just need new blades. I am using the "strong" version.

    Novice mistake putting hands in a powered up fish tank. All the aquatic books say do NOT do that.
