Beard looks great! Also I really enjoy your informative videos but I would also enjoy your go with the flow type videos as well. Good luck and have fun.
Looks like a great little tank kit. It's amazing the smaller tanks are more expensive than some of the bigger ones by the time you're done shopping for a tank the lids the lights filtration and so on like you said I'd rather just have the plug and Play kit. Looks like a nice setup I think I'm going to have to get one in the near future, soon as I get my last tanks set up if that ever ends just picked up two more 70 gallons today... I guess I like the abuse.
Need some help off the pair of you. Just seperated 3 Tetra's from my tank tonight will try to net the other three in the morning. Found that breed of tetra eating and bullying the guppies and mollies. They have their own tank going to sell get of the Tetra's. Stressing me out and the fish
Instead of blocking the windows out entirely you could also try to tint them, may cut down on your algae problem and you can still see the outside world from the fish room.
Hey, John. Really looking forward to the new format of videos. My dad and I are huge fans and would watch anything posted by you and the lovely Lisa. We've learned so much from you both since getting into the hobby just over a year ago. Also, I for one am always up for more videos featuring the handsome Carl.
Love it. More fish room time. Aquarist creators’ videos that take place in their rooms /spaces where they talk about the hobby and their wet pets are the best. Keep it up!
I have 3fluval flex 9 gal, 1-15 gal and a 32 gal Fluval flex. I have several of the little Aqua tops. I use these as quarantine & hospital tanks! All of them sooooo worth the money!!!
You go ahead and plug your products. This is your business and these are your commercials that we all love to enjoy. I own a seachem 110 hang on the back becauseof you. The best hang on the back filter in my opinion. Thank You both for the great videos you 2 create.
blackout curtains can be hung 1/4 or 1/3 of the way down the window, leaving an upper section daylight or putting UV Block film on them. A combination of blackout curtains and UV blocking window film would give you some natural light and privacy
Love the free FUN format 🥰 btw you can get blinds that lower from the top as well as lift up from the bottom. This gives you natural sun light but it will block it on the lower part of the room where your tanks are Maybe a solution to keep some sun if you want it 😎🔆. Thanks for the video and reminding everyone this hobby is Fun 🎉🐳
Free-flowing vlog videos are often my favorites. We get to see real life moments, honest thoughts & opinions, and randomness. I love that. Raw and real. I watched almost every video you posted while y'all were moving because it was similar format. And the kitty cameos are 👍🏻 Hope to see you at my hometown Aquashella next Saturday ❤️
I have so loved watching this transformation! You guys look like you are so happy. Moving and making changes takes time, take it from someone who has moved 19 times in 30 yrs! Enjoy the process and this is going to be awesome when you get this all done! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to this journey.
Great job John, looking forward to the change in your format. Looking at the video, I would think solar shades on the windows and maybe brighten up the ceiling only. Paint it white?? Just my thoughts. Keep up the good work!
Yes!! I absolutely love the idea of a new unscripted, more-personality format! We want to know you guys more! I feel like people are more invested when they feel more connected! At least I do. 😊 And you guys are great. Also, the beard looks awesome!
I really like getting to see the progress of the Old Fish House in the background of this type of video - Lisa's prints on the wall and her Nano corner look great , oh, the black cards are perfect- thanks John💕👍
Excited for the new format John! The formulaic, edited videos were great and really informative/ helpful. But I think that having a less edited, spontaneous style makes it more personal and fun to watch too!
I sincerly want to thank you guys, Today I finnally added Black neon tetras to my new (PROPERLY CYCLED) tank. You guys helped me rediscover a childhood hobby and for the first time in YEARS i have a tank. Its a small ten gallon but thanks to your information its got proper cycling, filtration and everything. I already bought a second aqaurium to setup in the near future. I hope your channel grows, and thanks again. -Tom
I like it, I like it! I have several fluval kit's and love them, they also have a Betta kit one I wanted to try. It's 2.6 gallon's, but I'm from the school of bigger is better. That's what she said last night. ( Lol ). 45 year's ago I lived in South Carolina and that's where I started collecting my own fish, such as mollies and Florida flag fish. Always done with the game and wildlife's approval. Their is a small lake in a state park in Columbia SC that had the mosquito fish or Gambusia fish. I got so good I could catch them with a Frisbee.
Hi John, thanks for the relaxing tour of your fish room. I like seeing the place come together and enjoy the time and attention you're putting into all these projects. Looking forward to seeing more of this relaxed format you're doing here. Keep up the great work, and know that you and Lisa are greatly appreciated! Thanks y'all 😁
I’m most interested in seeing how these new fish rooms continue to come together. I also enjoy videos that focus on one tank. Fish, plants, lighting, feeding that work for that specific environment. I wouldn’t miss the top tens. They’ve been done to death on plenty of channels. I think the video quality will improve with the blackout curtains and lights. Also wondered if painting part or all of the ceiling in that dark wood room white might help. Paint is a one time cost to brighten a space vs. just growing the electric bill.
Thanks, John, for the status update! You’ve made some great progress on your fish room, etc. Loved seeing Carl the cat, and your other cat, too. Looking forward to what’s next. And I’ll see you next weekend in Dallas! :)
I like these kinds of videos! I've learned a lot from your planned/scripted videos, but I love the fun and raw energy that comes from you passionately doing what you love and the fish house updates are great! I've been a subscriber since I moved cross-country with my fish about 2 years ago and was looking for videos on both fish transport and setting up a new tank from scratch (because the last time I did that was when i first got this fish 10 years ago). Your older top 10s and such videos came up a lot in my search results, and when I subscribed to your channel, more of your formulated videos even from years prior ended up on my RUclips front page. I'm no YT expert, but I think as long as those existing videos stay in your channel, fishkeepers and fishkeeping enthusiasts are going to find you and you can do what you want without completely disappearing from the algorithm. Have fun!
I agree with the tinted windows idea - that should give you the best of both! The fishroom looks like it is coming together nicely! Definitely like this style of vlog- would love to see more 😃
I love videos of people setting up tanks, doing maintenance, just talking about the hobby and best practices. So this was great! Keep doing it, people like genuine :)
What about the Sicce Micron? I also love the "hybrid" filters- a cross between a sponge filter and canister filter that goes in the tank and runs off air like sponge filters. You can also DIY a small canister filter out of a large mason jar.
I agree on the built in sump style filters for these small nano aquarium kits. An additional benefit is that it shouldn't lost prime during a power outage. Something that some of the hang on back filters suffer from. The Aquatop Pisces 5 gallon cube is on my list to try one of these days. Going to be standing up a Petco Imagitarium 3.7 Pro Deluxe fancy magic kit soon which is sitting here in the box next to my PC. And I just thought of another benefit. If you've got fish that prefer warmer than whatever you keep the room temperature at you can sneak a small heater into most of these in-tank sump systems. As an aside. I'm not picky about video formats. Scripted, casual, etc. doesn't matter to me. I'll watch them all. -Shane
Fantastic! Glad you're getting back to having fun with the videos! Sharing your fun with us is the very best approach you can take both for you and for your subscribers!
People who completely unpack and complete all their projects without any moving clutter as soon as they move in are not to be trusted. Love the new format.
We just switched our daughter's beta tank to an Aquatop sponge filter. Her tank had come with an air pump version of the Tetra Whisper 1-5 gallon filter and it wasn't drawing up water anymore. It's been a week and we have noticed a huge difference in water quality and the beta has perked up completely. And it's so teeny that cleaning it took maybe 10 seconds. I don't mind the floor space it takes and doesn't really detract from the look, IMO. I'm more annoyed with the LED bubbler that came with the tank kit. The hose attaches at the back so it never stays flat on the bottom and the tube curls around the tank rather than go straight up and down. I would take it out and put it into her other nano tank but my daughter loves it there.
I have an Aquatop 13 gallon with the bowed front. I love it. So pretty. As a beginner it is a lot of learning about the chemistry and the flora. Have a great day
Change is good! I think you have so much to show while you set up your new fish rooms. There are things you probably take for granted that some will find very helpful. Love this video!
Your ideas of what you like doing, is the ideas that I like to hear. A person can't learn or get new ideas without seeing people do it their way ? You away from script sounds great !
You guys do what makes you happy and you have fun doing! I’m sure we will all stick around! Thank you for all you guys do for all us crazy MTS’er and new keepers alike.
I'm excited for the change --- actually I would LOVE to just see all the "small" things that you do in the fishroom. Like repairs, treating fish if they are sick, new fish that come in and boxing/unboxing new bettas when they come in, even fixing the window, etc. I feel like it's so hard to have that many fish for most people, I just want to live vicariously through you, and also seeing what it's *actually* like to do that -- so I can better figure out what part of it I might be able to add or pick up myself!
Another option is to only black out the lower half of those amazing windows, or you could try window clings . Make them look stain glass. The fur on your face is awesome keep it.
I've had a 5 galon tank with a hang-on-the-back filter like 2 to 3 years. There are 2 dozens of neon tetras and dozens of cherry shrimps in it and the setup has been working great so far.
I was SHOCKED to see you grew a BEARD, John, but I REALLY like It! My hubby ALWAYS have a beard-- sometimes like ZZTOP, sometimes like a BEAR----- 😂 and ....I LOVE your personality!
John....think about "Window film"....it's easy application...reflects UV...still can see out...? Good luck you guys...GOD BLESS... fish keeper to fish keeper
As a new fish keeper I do want to thank you VERY much for those top ten videos. I understand you wanting to change the format to make things fun for you again. I am excited to see what comes next.
Your new fish house is a wonderland! As for algae and the windows…maybe some window films? Allows the light, but filters the UV. Comes in all sorts of patterns and colors, other than just “sun block”.
My coworker turned me onto the Zoo Med Nano 10 canister filter. I had never seen or even heard of it, but I love it. It's truly tiny, and actually desktop friendly, and does a great job, and it's quiet. They also make the Nano 30 if you want something a bit bigger. Check them out sometime.
Hi John - I added an Aquael to my 5 gallon fish bowl and buried into gravel I built up behind my hardscape. Love it! Has an air-line as well. I'll look more into these Ventis.
Have you looked at the uv block home window tint? Might block enough of the light to stop algea for you. It makes a HUGE difference and you can still see out. Pro Beard club !
You know what? The RUclips algorithm might - MIGHT - hate you for changing things up for a blip in time, but if you're having fun, that will translate over to the people watching so they're having fun too. That, my friend, is a recipe for success. You have provided enough content and built this channel up over the years to allow you to do what you want to do, so do it. Do what makes you happy. My prediction is, for every person you lose, you'll gain three.
John you and your wife , I’m sorry ,no! , no! I’m not sorry!!! You two are awesome , call me a freak ,call me what ever you want… I just like watching and listening to the both of you. Don’t get me wrong I’m sooooo glad it’s all about fish keeping plus… you both have something , don’t know what it is? Could be a number of things… so so glad your on my phone🤓🥰 please stay around keep staying around and lovin the fish hobby. I know in reality you can’t or just won’t do it for ever. Iv learned so much from you two lovely people. The fish keeping community, oh! I can’t forget your friend with the puffer fish and the cave man you all rock!!!!! I so very great full for all y’all!! Ok I was just checking in on you making sure your weather in your state is not bad and your safe and happy. Keep it up your doing it right🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🥰
Great video John! This video form is like a one on one conversation. Hey, the whiskers look very good on you. And I am happy to see Carl has a friend too:) 😊
Do like the non scripted videos great and fun. But you were great at giving useful info for the hobby with the top 10's. Mabey do a mix of both. Everybody happy 🐠🐠🐠
Great video John Love the tanks with a built in sump/chamber for filtration. Got my fluval Evo running well with some coral and a Bangaii Cardinal and 2 black clowns. Cracking tank! Cheers Aaron
That nano tank is a good price, especially for a beginner. The filtration system is brilliant! I have an ‘inherited’ 3 gal & once I added plants, it was too crowded w/ the equipment for me to enjoy my few fish. :( Next tank will be that yours, maybe three of them, lol. I love bettas, too. Gonna name my first one, a female of course, Greta! Glad to see you “wing it”. Lisa, wanna see you ‘wing it’, too! Cheers!
Loving the new format - especially the chance to get to know your personalities better! I really enjoy watching the more vlog-like videos of you cultivating your space. Totally would watch you fix that window. Bet there are some tips and tricks we could learn along the way and possibly apply to our own spaces/tanks. The best part of all is seeing you enjoy the hobby (both fishkeeping and youtube). You're both doing great! Sending all the best.
Built in filters, as you say, are the best here. The problem is that once the motor burns out you're stuck with buying a new tank because they don't generally sell replacement parts.
Here is the link to the Venti complete kit I was talking about in the video: bit.ly/3JhKpqJ
Beard looks great!
Also I really enjoy your informative videos but I would also enjoy your go with the flow type videos as well. Good luck and have fun.

You been watching MD fish tanks🤣🤣
Instead of blocking the windows out entirely you could also try to tint them, may cut down on your algae problem and you can still see the outside world from the fish room.
I was just about to say the same thing ❤️🇦🇺
Speaking from experience, the tint does not stop the algae unfortunately. We've had to go with black out curtains too.
Darn! What if it had UV blocking? Would that work?
@@MissChellethis is way late but 99% of tint is 99% uv resistant

What about that mirror film you can put on glass to filter the light? Love how these fishrooms are progressing 💕💕💕
Ramshorn snails take care of all my algae. Along with a Bristlenose Pleco.

They are trying to keep the vintage character of the room.

I absolutely LOVE the beard! It looks great on you!
Fantastic! Glad you're getting back to having fun with the videos! Sharing your fun with us is the very best approach you can take both for you and for your subscribers!
Beard looks great on you! Changing things up sounds fun for you and entertaining as well as educational for your followers. Go for it.
Bring it on. Looking forward to seeing what you do.
More Carl!😻😻😻
People follow you for you guys personalities. You guys being humble and truthful about mistakes are what I like about the videos.
People who completely unpack and complete all their projects without any moving clutter as soon as they move in are not to be trusted.
Love the new format.
Been feeling that way lately too. I wanna enjoy my fish.
Definitely more Carl, the beard is great!

If you are having fun, we are having fun, I appreciate this turnaround.
John rocking the beard!!! Yeeaaaaah!!!!!!!
I am personally enjoying the house build chaos fish barn build videos WAY MORE than the top ten stuff from the past year. I doubt I’m alone in that.
Yes, this is the way!
You guys do what makes you happy and you have fun doing! I’m sure we will all stick around! Thank you for all you guys do for all us crazy MTS’er and new keepers alike.
Definitely like this style of video more. Would love to see more of a vlog style of day to day stuff showing more of the behind the scenes.
I'm excited for the change --- actually I would LOVE to just see all the "small" things that you do in the fishroom. Awesome Vid John 👍👍🇦🇺
I'm not bored of your top 10 videos yet but you have to do what makes you happy :) good video and looking forward to more in this style
Do what makes you and yours happiest...
Beard looks good on ya brother. southern NC
I gotta a fevah and the only prescription is more Carl! 💕
Enjoyed your plain, real self. Looking forward to more. NOT than I haven’t enjoyed all previous videos of you and you and Lisa 🐠
Loveeeee the beard!!
The beard looks good! Change is good! You and Lisa are very natural! That's what people like about your channel, not only the "scripted" videos

My coworker turned me onto the Zoo Med Nano 10 canister filter. I had never seen or even heard of it, but I love it. It's truly tiny, and actually desktop friendly, and does a great job, and it's quiet. They also make the Nano 30 if you want something a bit bigger. Check them out sometime.
cool vid. and your right. cut loose and have fun. i'm sure we all will appreciate that vibe. ... glad you get to work with your hobby
Keep doing this kind of videos.
Vlog on the steps of your fish house progress!
Love the filter that’s built in to the Fluval Spec V. Just needed some modifications to decrease the flow for a betta.
Bald head and beard is a classic combo. Go for it John
Kudos, Great video!
A light coloured paint on the walls would brighten up the room also. 🙂
Loved the video John! Keep up the videos that you find fun to make. That's what this hobby is all about!!
Hi John - I added an Aquael to my 5 gallon fish bowl and buried into gravel I built up behind my hardscape. Love it! Has an air-line as well. I'll look more into these Ventis.
Keep doing videos the way you want to. I love your channel anyway xx
We like this new format of video! Keep it up. Home improvement, unscripted and real. Nice work! 👍
Have you looked at the uv block home window tint? Might block enough of the light to stop algea for you. It makes a HUGE difference and you can still see out.
Pro Beard club !
Yup I am doing a nano tank, a 20 gallon community aquarium of nano fish, Corydora catfish, shrimp, and a African dwarf aquatic frog.
You know what? the beard is a winner IMO, and i enjoy this format as much as the more structured ones. keep it comin'!
Yes John, more of these x
Very awesome video I definitely like these kind of videos from you and Lisa
Love the new unscripted videos!! Love the chaos.

I really like the ‘hanging out with a mate/freestyle’ video type 😄👍
I think this is what has been missing. Keep following what you think is best. You are doing great guys!
more videos like this please 👍
Great video John! This video form is like a one on one conversation. Hey, the whiskers look very good on you. And I am happy to see Carl has a friend too:) 😊
Do like the non scripted videos great and fun. But you were great at giving useful info for the hobby with the top 10's.
Mabey do a mix of both.
Everybody happy 🐠🐠🐠
I love this kind of video! We want you to enjoy the whole process and have fun. I think the beard looks great by the way.
Love the new video format!!
Nano tanks are a fun place to do your own DIY cannister creations, too.
Great video John
Love the tanks with a built in sump/chamber for filtration.
Got my fluval Evo running well with some coral and a Bangaii Cardinal and 2 black clowns. Cracking tank!
Cheers
Aaron
