Well the way i've been looking at things lately is that nothings ever going to get cheaper and parts are only going to get harder to find. Right now is the cheapest and easiest time to rebuild the MD. Whats the alternative? let it sit in the weeds? They print more money every single day, money is the most worthless thing there is, some people just dont see whats really valuable. Just my opinion of course. Dan - Afton, NY.

And when he is done he will still have a M D with a cracked head. Myself I have at least one every letter series farmall made. and a 300 utility a 350 gas and 350 diesel. I have 4 gas Ms that run and one I junked for parts. Im more along the line of Old Farm Junk 101 I dont spend a lot of money. However I did see him buy a brand new float for a M farmall Carb once! Im old school if its not broke dont fix it. But i do use my tractors and work them hard. For instance why convert the Diesel to a Dist and electronic ignition? That ignition only runs for a very short time interval when first starting the diesel engine?

I'll tell you my outlook on it. I have done 2 tractors recently, a 1969 Massey Ferguson 180 with a Perkins gasoline engine and a 1967 John Deere 4020 diesel. Cost wise I have over $9,000 in the Massey and over $10,000 in the 4020. The point is Pete, the cost can suck and I know you know that but, if it is important to you in some fashion then do it and don't question it. Love your videos and I am nearly finished with your book as well! Best of luck my friend!

The Beauty about this rebuild is, that with every turn of the wrench, you can look over in the corner of the garage, and see your Dad sitting there smiling ,with love in his eyes. You can't buy or pay for that! It comes from the heart. and soul.

I vote you restore it. Those old tractors are just workhorses. My granddad had a few old tractors that I wish I could have gotten my hands on (not that I know how to restore them) just because of the family history and how amazing they look when restored. Though my husband did teach me how to sandblast and I was able to help with redoing my horse trailer:)

In 20 minutes you've already raised $1300! Listen, I'm a tractor enthusiast, restorer and local show goer here in Ohio, the folks that love these old machines don't care about the money, it's for the love of keeping history alive. Don't think of it as a handout, it's a donation to the MD. It deserves to live on.

Don’t sell yourself short on what you are doing. There is value to your patrons in just knowing that the MD will be preserved for another generation. The hard pieces to restore become rare because they are the first to go to the scrap yard. As a restorer of cars, trucks and tractors, the challenge is in the hard. While you can just about build the common tractors from catalogue parts, the rarer pieces take more determination and frankly skill in ferreting out the needed pieces. When I support a museum or historical society it isn’t for a material return, it is for the simple knowledge of being part of the preservation process for the next generation to learn from and appreciate. The fact that you plan on this being an ongoing tutorial on the MD is just a bonus.

A man is driving in the country and as he is going by a farm pasture he sees a pig. As he gets closer he notices something strange about the pig. He parks and gets closer only to realize the pig’s right front leg is wood. Just as he gets to this conclusion a farmer on an MD tractor rides up. After introducing himself the farmer tells him it is his pig. The man asks about the wooden leg and the farmer takes a deep breath and starts telling the man why the pigs is like one of the family. “One years ago my daughter almost got hit by a car. At the last second the pig pushed her away and saved her. We love this pig! Six months ago my son was drowning. The pig pulled him out of the water and gave him snout to mouth resuscitation. Saved his life. We love this pig! Just last month the house caught on fire at 2 am. We were asleep and the pig broke down the front door and woke us and made us get out. We love this pig!” The man asked if that was where the pig lost his leg leg? The farmer replied “ Son, this kind of pig you don’t eat all at once”!

When I stopped farming I gave it back to the school, they use it for parades and such. Still running strong.

I just happened onto your channel in the last couple of days, the posting of "Farming with Antique Farmall Tractors" is what caught my attention so I took the time to view it and then couple more of your postings and I just subscribed to your channel today. To say the least I am impressed with your knowledge of Farmall's and your down to earth personality when talking and explaining what you are doing to your subscribers/viewers when making your video. I grew up on a small farm in WPA back in the 50's and early 60's utilizing a Farmall "H" and "M". A couple of neighboring farms had MD's and I was always impressed with their tractors. After just viewing a few of your postings it takes me back 60 years or so to a much simpler time in my life and brings a smile to my face. I will be sure to watch how it all plays out in the rebuild of your MD. Just a side note, my older brother has our Dad's 1939 Farmall "H" and associated implements that he has rebuilt and uses to mow, rake and bale some hay mainly just for the sake of doing and enjoying.

For most people dollars and cents does make a difference. Yet for you there is another reason. For your views, at least me, it is joy to watch you redo the MD. It brings back a lot of memories gone years gone by. Thank you. We live in Iowa and are in a blizzard so a White
Christmas is a reality. Merry Christmas to your family. Stay healthy and safe.

OMG. Never imagined that I’d get a response. My dads people were from the west of Ireland. It was hard to survive on bad land. My dad got on his bike and cycled to a better land . So proud of him, reminds me of my Son.

Well done that man! Wish I had as much room to work on my gear. It’s so much more satisfying bringing something back to a usable life. Can’t wait to see the parts refurbished and the rebuild started. Merry Christmas to you and yours

I grew up on a farm and we had a massey Ferguson that my great grandfather had bought used. We used it regularly till I was 29. Then a hydraulic seal went out and it couldnt turn. I spent years convincing my dad it was worth restoring our family tractor. I'm glad i did. I never saw it when it was new (even new to my family ) it is now more special to the family then ever!

So glad you decided to go ahead with the build. Like you said, you can't put a value on some things. I have a soft spot for old machines, I guess because I'm old.

I say go all out... I imagine you’ll be surprised at just how much you you raise. I’m like you and don’t like taking handouts however you have a touch for teaching. In my opinion you are great at it and that’s something you definitely don’t find everyday. So absolutely I feel like you’re earning whatever amount of money you raise just because it’s great to have a guide to go by. And not to mention it’s not easy making these videos either

Glad to see that you are rebuilding the engine. I wish I had that kind of know how. I had no idea rebuilding those old engines could get that costly. I look forward to future videos on this tractor. Keep up the good work!

Having the injection pump rebuilt at a pump shop is ideal. Running the pump on a stand to know that everything is set properly and running correctly.

I agree it would be ideal, and I may go that route with both the pump and injectors.

Bad injectors and a weak pump can cause a lot of problems.

Fantastic video.. One of your best..
Absolutely spot on, "" everything in life isn't always about dollars+cents""
If it was me(and I am a farmer and landscape gardener) I'd do the whole lot, front to back.. This is a long term investment, your children may use the tractor after, just like you did from your dad... This is in my top 2 best videos... More like this..... Merry Christmas... 👌👍👌🚜🚜🚜🚜

I am really glad you decided to rebuild the MD. The biggest value is preserving the history and memories associated with this tractor. I think with technology advances we loose a sense of where we came from. I would be surprised that more than a 5% of people today know that there was a tractor or engine that could run gas and diesel fuel. Not to mention the knowledge of the perseverance and hard work our grandparents, great grandparents and before them had to farm and feed the world with the machinery at that time. Yeah, we have 600hp tracked tractors that can disc and plant fields at 10mph + but we didn’t just wake up one day and have that. I know there more than just a few people restoring tractors in the world, and you don’t really make money doing it, but equiptment like this deserves to be kept around to be learned from and remembered. Thank you for sharing yours. The only bad joke I’ve heard so far are the “Green Tractor” jokes lol! I am just an “any tractor” is a good tractor person!

I like the fenders on the MD, how about the H. My dad once in the winter when I was a little boy almost lost his life on a Farmall Super C. He went almost all the way under the tractor and just barely held on and was able to climb back and pull the tractor out of gear. Fenders would have made a huge difference. So he drove back home, got into his truck and drove to the local IH dealer and ordered fenders. I like to tell this story and so did he. If you loose control of the steering wheel you can fall toward those moving tires and you don't stand a chance. I'm enjoying your videos very much and I talk to many people about the quality all the time. Thank You Pete. Merry Christmas.
