What would be the CCM comparison be and which would you recommend?

CCM's Tacks 9550 Protective Line would be the equivalent and more affordable option. The X-Series, however, does have a slightly better overall protection, comfort and fit. Both lines are geared for the recreational player so choose which one best suits your needs. If you're looking for basic protection at a great price, the CCM Tacks 9550 gear is for you. If you still need affordable gear but with better protection and coverage, the X-Series is the perfect choice.

Are the Bauer X-Series Shoulder Pads and Elbow Pads lighter and do they have more mobility then the Vapor series lines?_____ Thank you.

The X-Series is really designed for the recreational player whereas the Vapor line is for the competitive player. The X-Series offer entry level protection which makes them lighter than the Vapor line and they still provide great mobility. The Vapor Line is slightly heavier (because of the increase in protection) but the lightest protective line on the market with incredible mobility too.

With protective gear what are you paying for when you go up in price? What makes something like mid tier vapor shin guard better than this entry level shinguard?

Great question! Main area of upgrade is your protection. A performance level shin guard verses an entry level has a jump in protection and coverage. Other features you'll see are better strapping systems to keep protection comfortable and locked on the body, as well as nicer liners for better sweat and moisture management, comfort, and anti-odor control.
