I wish they had chosen a darker color for Foul Days but I absolutely love it anyway! And they really do need to pick different books.
It is a very different vibe to the original; a darker colour probably would have suited it a little better 😊
i just feel like at this point in time they have no excuse to be doing block sprayed edges, give us the pretty prints D:
I kind of like the block sprayed edges 🫣 … but they have said that their new subscription services will start to have prettier edges 🥰
It's more up to the publisher than owlcrate
the crowns of nyaxia series is one of my favorite series of all time! carissa broadbent is truly such an incredible author. so glad I was able to snag the owlcrate set as well - great unboxing! 😊

I am finding that I am over the subscription boxes. Especially since publishers are producing special editions of the first releases of a book. No guessing games on whether I want to skip that month. I may just preorder if there’s something that I want in the first week. No shipping fees if it’s over a certain amount (which it always is😂)
I think a lot of us are getting over the subscription box hype. Most of their better special editions seem to be saved for extra purchases, not the sub box itself. I’m going to be skipping a lot more in the future.

Really hope I get off the waitlist for the Ashes and the Star Cursed King special edition! It was already sold out by the time I saw my email! 😭 Looks so gorgeous! It’s super sad that I’ve only seen it being sold for outrageous prices second-hand!

Hi Michelle! Well, let's see now ... lots there to comment on. Foul Days isn't one that I've heard of before now and I doubt I would have given it a second glance with the original cover. The Owlcrate edition has a gorgeous cover redo that gives me Around the World in 80 Days vibes. The naked outer hardback has nice creature artwork however I'm not a fan of any of the other artwork related to this edition. Evocation ... the restyled cover is gorgeous but the art on the naked hardback is ... meh! .... and I'm not keen on the reverse art on the paper cover. When comparing it to the Fairyloot edition ... mmmm ... red is my favourite colour so there's that. Love the stencilled edges on it as well so extra points for that too. I've actually ordered the Goldsboro edition of Evocation which is signed but otherwise the same as a regular copy but I've ordered the prequel to Evocation called Odd Spirits from Waterstones which has stencilled edges and an exclusive cover ... in red!!!!! I think that I may have fallen for the hype around this author!!! Oh well. And finally the Carissa Broadbent book ... it's pretty, it's red and all that and it matches the first book nicely but the story itself doesn't call to me. Too reminiscent of Sarah J Maas's ACOTAR books I think in some ways. I've started reading again Michelle! I just finished Death on the Lusitania and it was fabulous!!!! I couldn't put it down. Now I have to go chose something else to read. What shall it be?? Are you on summer holidays yet Michelle?? Our schools are just finished for the summer with most not going back until the first week or so of September. Talk soon. Cheers!!!
Hi Judy, good to hear your thoughts on these. I always think of you when we get red styled editions now :) I like the original cover design and colour for Evocation! Let's hope that it's a good read :) It's good to hear that you're settling in to your new home and getting back to focusing on reading 🥰 I'm self-employed with my tutoring, so I will take two weeks annual leave at the end of July, and August will be a lighter workload. At the moment I am exam marking, which is taking up a lot of time around the younger students that I still have. I read The Silence in Between last week, which is duel timeline between WW2 and The Berlin Wall, set in Germany with mother/daughter perspectives. It was a good read, but some very difficult scenes to read. Hope that you're well and reading a good book x
I also find the Owlcrate edition of Evocation prettier than the Illumicrate one. 😊
