THIS IS A REPOST! We ran into some legal issues with the naming of this project and had to re-publish the video with a new name. Project was originally published 12/9/14

The Kids Kitchen Step Stool is an asset to any family with kids! One of Nicole's favorite things to do with our son is cook. At this stage, it's mostly measuring ingredients and stirring but we'll soon move on to cutting vegetables and other fun culinary tasks. And while many adults look at cooking as a chore, kids see it a compelling and fun way to be useful. Not only that, but our son is a very picky eater. We find that making him a part of the cooking process makes it much easier for him to try new foods.

I finally got this project finished for my first grandchild! It works perfectly for her and should for several years. I made mine with walnut. Although I watched this video many times and looked at the plans for every step, it seemed like I made mistakes with every step. She’ll never know and it looks beautiful! Thank you for the video and plans!
A rose by any other name . . .
This is still one of my favorite projects of yours, Marc. It's the first real woodworking project I attempted, and my son uses it almost every day. Thank you.
I finished building this for my two year old about 3 months ago and he absolutely loves it.
One of the best projects I've ever made to be honest.
Thanks for the inspiration to make it Marc!
My wife and I have our first grandchild and her mom was talking about one of these; I had never heard of them. I offered to build one for her and after searching the internet for plans, I came upon yours and loved it. I especially love the knockdown as my son and his wife live a thousand miles away and I may have to ship it. I just completed it and its one of my favorite projects. My wife thinks its one of the nicest things I've ever made. Thanks for the plans. Can't wait to see my granddaughter climb up.
That’s awesome, Keith! Congrats on the grandbaby!
@@woodwhispererUpdate. I have now made 3 of these, all out of cherry. (One is to keep at my house for when the grandkids visit) I'm planning on making another for a nephew and he wants it painted. Any suggestions on a species of wood that would be good for a painted version? I was thinking maybe poplar?
Loved this build video the first time, and still enjoyed it. Watched it all the way though and noticed some things I missed the first time.
Fantastic Job. Top shelf item. I have tool envy now. Great looking shop!
I'm glad this was reposted. I've been thinking of things I'll have to make for my kids in the near future, and this is definitely up there. Thanks!
I've been meaning to make one of these for my three year old twins. I remembered watching this way back when, but I'm glad I got to see it agian. Some real good stuff here.
Just finished making this with GM. Thank you so much for the instructional video and plans! My wife and child appreciate you too!
Very fun build. My 22 month old loves hers. Can always count on your kids furniture being stable and safe. The kids table from WWFC is another favorite, My daughter and I like to eat dinner together at it. This and the table both support my 6'4" body.
This is a great project for my 15 months and energetic granddaughter. Greetings from beatiful Costa Rica
I LOVE this! I had seen a commercial version and decided to make one for my niece. You just made that a whole lot easier to figure out!
the script is well written. the way you tell the instructions step by step is amazing. it's like it made me felt that it is soooo simple and easy to make. hehehe amazing. love this vid.
I was just wondering about the santa mats at the end, but it makes sense when I read the description! This would be very helpful thing to have. Very nice build!
Saw this on tiny house. So cool to watch one built. Great videos.
Cuteness overload. Looks like Grandpa might have another project. :-)
That cute kid at the end of the video was the best thing of this video.
a 15 minute video, became a 5 day project. but the result is superb. Mine was made out of home lumbered lark wood, gives a great wood pattern and color. Our 15months old kid got crazy about it, climbing on and off for almost the hole day. ( maybe run the plans also in metric numbers for the other side of your viewers ) Thanks a lot !
Great video Mark. I loved watching this ( especially the end )
Very nice build, awesome details and descriptions...Great job...
Awesome video mate!! Thanks for taking the time to put it together and share with us :)
Love the Kids projects! sweet work man!
Great build I like that you incorporated the domino also like the knock down joinery.
What a great build. Thanks for sharing!
Our grandkids love their tower. We made one, but it is not at all as nice as yours. Might have to make another one. Thanks so much for the video!!
Great design.Your channel is a very nice place to visit.
OMG, Marc I just passed a brick thinking you were redoing this project. Well it's nice to dream. Still, somehow I saw some new pieces this time around. Good luck with the house move!
Judas man! Look at your shop! And, Festool tools and all the necessary other power tools to make such a beautiful piece. Well done! But I don't think I'll have the means to build one to this level of perfection. Great video.
Just saw this video. Going to make it this weekend for my grandkids
Man, that is one hell of a nice shop!
I enjoyed it as much the 2nd time around.
very nice sir! Im starting mine this afternoon. great channel!
Adorable... The kids cute too ;) great project👍
You have a nice wood shop. would love to have one like that. Awsome. Thanks
Love this. Great tutorial video.
My wife always wants more counter space. You could make an arborite or cutting board type topper for this and you have a portable prep station.
I built a folding version based off of Mark's dimensions that (by happy accident) doubles as counter extension. I did not intend for this function, so I did not even think about making the platform a cutting board. That is a great idea.
Here's album of the finished product: imgur.com/a/DmJjn
great project! and was nice to meet you
love how the shop looks
Looks great!
Insanely perfect timing. I was just getting ready to start building one of these for my 19 month old. Oh and I was bummed I didn't run into you at WWIA :(
Perfect job.
Thanks - very creative & useful around here
I love that leg vise!
I hate you had legal issues, but I do appreciate the repost, as I hadn't made it to this project, yet.
Epic! Expect a call from Ikea any moment; they'll want to buy it.
I made one of these for my kid from an IKEA stool and some lumber for the support railing.
Awesome! Ikea stuff is apparently very hackable.
I love ikea, but this is so much better! So beautiful! Love it! Can't wait to find someone who could make it for us.
such a nice project!
That's awesome he happy little dude don't understand really how cool that cherry wood kitchen aide is hahaa he'll understand one day great work sir
Hi,
I have this on my to do list for a long Time now.
My Wood Store is a bit Limited in his selection.
Do you think red cedar is sturdy enough for the joints used?
Thanks
Might be a repost but I still think it's great - kind of timeless...
Awesome video, I made a much simpler one for my kid with hinges to collapse it.
Nice. I should've seen this ten years ago ;)
What a nice chair :-)
Thanks for the primer Marc, just got commissioned to build one of these.
Damn, thanks! I have to make this now ;)
great video thx !
great idea, your workshop is huge!! id love a workshop that big, what's the dimensions of it?
I’m in the process of building one of these for my granddaughter. Did you put grips on the bottoms of the legs?
I wonder how the finish held up, i am just about to finish one of these and would love to know.
Ditto
👌👌👌
How long did took you to build it?
Without finish.
Maybe use some adhesive backed grip tape so your kid can't slip on his socks from the stand
I was thinking ur wife was getting an early start on Christmas decorations with the JOY sign. Lol and u had make up on your tattoos. Lol
nope. This is a repost. c:
God your kid is getting old. I remember watching him right after he was born in some of your videos
Would a biscuit jointer work similar to your domino joiner ?
Where can I purchase one completed? Thanks.
Did you give any thought to tip resistors on the bottom? For our kiddo's first tower was just a frame on top of an Ikea stool, and he tipped it over once. Luckily he was ok. So I looked at a few plans online (didn't see yours, or I would have gone closer to this route) and was sure to put the tip resistors on...even though I broke a toe kicking it while I was still waking up one morning.
I have also built one and know that the tip resistors were necessary in my home,
We've been using ours for a couple of years now and haven't once felt that tipping was a risk. So I'm not making any safety claims on that but I am saying that tip resistors look ugly, get in the way, and make an already bulky piece of furniture have an even larger footprint. But you'll have to make the final call for yourself as to whether you need more support. Extra support would be easy enough to add later if needed.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply. You are 100% correct when you say they "look ugly, get in the way, and make an already bulky piece of furniture have an even larger footprint." I'll be the first to admit that my Ikea iteration was probably too tall with too small of a footprint, and the larger footprint probably solves the problem. And like I said, I broke a toe on them. I hate them, but was also thinking they would be a necessary evil...I'm glad you've had a positive experience without them....it might tempt me to take ours off.
Hi Mark would soft wood be strong enough for this
Great job, tell me, the salt slide thing your wife uses, did you make that ?
Not that one in particular, but we did make one just like it later. www.thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/salt-cellar/
Brilliant thanks
Have you thought about turning it upside down to make a seat?
What is the size of the dominos you use?
hermoso el mueble y muy util para los ninos pero como pudiera conceguir una maquina festool domino de segunda mano yo vivo en ecuador
I wish there was a sheet on where to put the dominos.. I swear I can not get the ones on the legs to attach the two pieces together for the live of me..
Reminds me of when I started my website and named it Facebook. Turns out somebody already is using that one.
no slip mat might be a good idea.
Any issues with using this design and selling them?
Weird that you had legal issues... was it because you were selling patterns with that name?
I'm not selling anything. Plans are free. But it stems from calling this project something that stepped on a Trademarked name.
legal issues with the name?? did u not give a shout out to someone?;) .
Any issues with your son slipping? That high quality finish looks slippery with socks on.
It's actually not slippery at all. A few coats of Danish Oil has just a little bit of luster but still appears very matte.
Oh okay. Cool! Keep up the good work!
another reason to just love target ?
ik this is a repeat,, but i have to ask,, why did u do a repeat??
just curious
The description explains what happened.
Look at the description
Norwegian children are more likely to just bring their Tripp Trapp chair to the counter.
Those pesky little copyright strikes.
man your son looks like you
Cool concept . Safety is over rated . I just propped my kids up on a bucket that fits under the sink . Hours of fun kicking the bucket out from under them . Lol JK . It is a good idea though.
Still, the kid is going to use that bucket to Take The Physical Challenge right on top of your head when you least expect it. LOL
what? you basically were about to get sued because of the name of the vid?
what a crazy world...
When the video/project name is the same as an existing trademarked product, problems ensue. It's a big pain in my butt, but they aren't in the wrong.
The Wood Whisperer it still sucks :/
Yeah, but looking at their rickety old mass produced ugly, will be broken within a year thing, they should be ashamed of themselves.
Perhaps they were and wanted to stop people searching from seeing this work of art and finding someone to build one for them?
What?! You couldn't make this in the back of a truck?! Unsubscribe! ;-)
Hmmm? 🤔🙂
See his most recent 3 or 4 videos ;)
+I do make literally everything in a back of a track (van)! 🙂
Adam Hill that was my point :)
About the giveaway...
Why it is not availble in my region?
