It's not shocking. It's why Carson Soucy is in Vancouver and Daniel Sprong is in Detroit. Seattle was cap strapped and couldn't pay for these guys. Players are going to take the most they can get for the longest they can get.
Nobody will believe the Leafs can compete for a stanley cup until a couple years after they actually win one. So that isn't a draw for the Leafs.
Leafs have to create some cap room for themselves so they can actually afford some one half decent.
Bear lost I guess he wants to play foe a none playoff team. Plus he needs to prove he's healthy enough to get a contract longer than a year.
Leafs are not a playoff team anyways lol I think he made the right call.

No doubt some people will blame Treliving, but the real blame lies at the feet of Dubas for screwing the Leaf's ability to sign the kind of players they desperately need.
Not to be a broken record, but the fact is I believe Dubas wasn't the great GM many think he was/is.
What did Dubas do that anyone else could have done? He caved to all four of the "core four" and gave them every penny they asked for!!
Experienced GMs understand how the game is played - the player agents will start with a number they realistically don't believe they'll get, but this gives the negations a starting point close to what the player actually expects. Experienced GMS will do something Dubas appears unfamiliar with, it's called "negotiating"!
Nobody in this comment section isn't capable of caving like that and giving players exactly what they opened negotiations with!!
Dubas sewed the team's ass to the dressing-room carpet making it extremely difficult for Treliving to be as effective as he would like to be! I know the cap is going up to around 4 million next season but that will all go to Nylander, so they'll also be screwed next season and the season following.
He has no choice but to over pay with picks and players in the lineup, because whatever money comes in has got to go straight back out!!!
