For real. Get that foundation up at least a foot off the ground for airflow to reduce humidity under it and separate it from the wet ground. Concrete blocks should do the trick.
And some support under the center of the floor. With your soft ground and when you put some weight in there it will sink a little especially when it rains. Cement blocks not jungle rot. I admire your energy !
Dude I am worried for them! Rain has been really crazy in PR... PR real rainy season started in MAY! Many rivers have really overflowed and in all my life I have not seen some towns underwater like this time ... Even important highways have been affected... I just hope everything is ok, when they return from Honeymoon vacation.... I was really worried when they move the camper to lower ground! Climate change is real... and it's showing everywhere...
Kristen has such a good eye for the way things look . Where did she go wrong looking at you? LOL. No, It is a time saver to get your tools organized. And she is the luckiest girl to have a do it yourself guy like you Mat. Dam how frustrating was that bobcat! So much potential and such a let down. favorite shed accessories, ceiling hooks and racks, electricity and light.
I like the shed I’m a shed builder but that a big Rubbermaid bowl is not rated for the winds you get so I’d think of straps to hold it downs we use hurricane cane straps in our southernmost states and we make solid wood ones. Ratchet straps to piers may help and work as well. Great job guys I have followed you from the get go of the DD and always wonder how bear is? You two are great can’t wait for the wedding and see you through the good times ahead. Stay cool stay loving stay safe
Putting up a Peg Board is super useful for organizing. You can move hooks around and hang most of your bigger tools as well as all kinds of things like hoses, wire, and small peg board shelves for little things.
Hello, you loving couple. And all of your animal friends. No technical support, but love the way. Everything is coming together with you too. I'm a felihello watching all your cats walking and wandering around, Especially that little snow white one. It likes to get in on the act. Thanks so much And look forward to your next.❤❤❤❤❤❤
You'll like the new plastic shed. Replaced my old rotted-out wooden shed with a similar one about 3 years ago and it's been great. No more water leaks and hardly any insects. I added a cheap solar powered interior light and movable wire shelving. They really are a cost effective, relatively easy way to go.
Great job guys ! Just fyi, termites LOVE plywood so unless it is marine plywood, I would be spraying for them before they eat the guts out of each sheet. It will happen.
Use what’s left from the house to build your trailer pad, just trough the busted up stuff down as backfill. Little extra labor but saves a buck. Recycling is good
It would probably be a good idea, since you have a hill leading right to where you're setting up, to dig a trench around the camper, pad, storage, etc. and throw down some rock and perforated drain leading to the drop-off. When the rainy season comes that looks like a good place for a lot of water to accumulate. Having a dozer push some dirt up to elevate a pad would be a good idea as well.
I loved this episode! I watched it twice. The second time I did it so I can read all the wonderful comments 👍🏽🥰💯 all your pets look so happy 🥰✨💫⚡️❤️🌴🙏🏽
I think your candid relationship is the best part of the channel. I think letting people see that team work is just not about building things it’s growing as a couple.
You could use some of the extra cinder blocks that you have as footing for the shed to get it up off the ground. Make sure to put a couple in the center under it so it does not start to sag in the middle also.
Hi folks - You two make such an amazing team. Your Love for each each, nature, wildlife and domesticated animals shine through your eyes and your smiles like rays of Light. I am looking forward to see what comes next. Namaste
Another super groovy episode. As a couple you two couldn't be anymore adorable and suited for each other. Such talented and driven builder, and your over the top love for animals is so beautiful. Really love your weekly show. Stay safe and stay groovy.
I love how you said “I haven’t cussed him out” I have been married for almost 20 years and my wife would agree that, if no swear words are said it’s a successful group project.
Love the happy dance. If you're not knocking the whole building down paint it white and give it a good roof so it has more eye appeal. Otherwise you both are doing such a great job. 👍 👏 Maybe you need a mobile chicken coop so you don’t have to keep making them - how many does that make now🙂 3 or 4. Love you both 💓 💗
That's a good looking shed, the animals are adorable, and happy for every step forward, even the 2 steps back, because look where you live, it's beautiful.💖
Kristen, I could tell you were just full of joy in today's episode! You're happiness and joy is contagious. I just can't stop smiling now. 😁 I hope someday to find a wife who compliments me like you compliment and synergize with Matt. I am so looking forward to following you and Matt as you continue your life journey. All the best to both of you!
Just read some of the comments. Wow. For our money, You guys work great together. And I'm glad Kristin has a thick skin, though she shouldnt have to. We love you both!
Yes yes yes, great animal content! THANK YOU. You guys are killing it with progress. Are you going to video the wedding? And why is David up top? We didn't understand. Something about babies? Go go go guys!
I think termites are in all warm climates. You need to have you cinder blocks treated before you construct floors. And you may end up with termite dens in your new perimeter walls.
Termites are everywhere.....even in the northeast, especially in PR ! When you build you need to take measures to prevent infestation... 1. treat soil and 2. treat building material within 8" of ground. I use BoraCare for wood and concrete and treat soil under and perimeter with Syngenta.
@@colourful64able What does your location have to do with anything here? PR has tons of termites. They're in PR. Where you live doesn't have any bearing on anything.
You two were my favorite sailors and now you're my favorite homesteaders. Only question I have is will there be a housewarming/meet and greet campout one day? I'd sure love an invite. Bless you both.
How about a huge deck surrounding the Trailer where you are just a foot or so above the ground but you can have patio furniture (outside type), fire pit, some free standing fans, cook outside, ......... where you can hang out off the jungle floor.
You should lease at a dealer or buy one. Get a rock crusing attachment to recycle the concrete on top of the road pad or trailer pad to lay pavers over. A geo tech fabric will stop rock errosion after rains.
Clear plastic bins with lids are one of my "go-to" for organizing on shelves. Also there is a wall-mount thing that holds tons of screws and other little bits-and-bobs.
Great job! Keep those chicks safe. My neighbor lost 2 chickens to a hawk in his backyard. They had to install a large covered dog kennel to house the coop & chickens in. No more free range. You guys are so good to your animals💖 They love you and it shows. ☺️
Salutations from Allentown Pennsylvania hey guys I have a suggestion you can use the debris from your old cement house fill in your new house foundation that way it will be repurposed completely cleaning your entrance
A commenter gave you good advice. Get an ocean container. Anywhere from 20' to 53'. They are used but make excellent lockable storage boxes. But support them on concrete steps from your local builder's supplier.
Oy, where to start. The video makes it clear it is a big mistake to leave out cross-supports under the plywood at 16". Also, lack of support under the entire structure, there should be legs down to earth at least every 16". Lastly. if the wind blows there (hint) some sort of tie-down to the ground is necessary. All is not lost though. Love seeing the progress.
Nice to see you got the proper gravel for the driveway! Top it with the stuff they brought you on the second delivery, the stuff with the fines/dust in it. That's what will lock it all together. Make sure the wettest areas have at least 8" of the big gravel, and drive on that a couple weeks, before topping it. Will probably have to add more before topping.
Hang in there. Love you and the animals. Shed is awesome. I can relate to your relationship. Jack and I of 56+ years of marriage are opposite personalities. We are 83 yo and healthy no regrets.. you will have a long, life together.
Garden Shed: You will need shelving, a Peg Board on one side to hang wrenches & tools, this is great way to organize and quick access. Bolt, nut, washer, nail, screws & misc. bins. Possibly you may want a work bench with a vice for rainy days, but I think the work bench, would be better on the outside with a lean-too over it. Lots of good ideas when you google it. This was a good idea, the time you will save having this Tool Crib will be huge, you wont waste 1 to 2 hours a day looking for misplaced tools. Good luck, I'm cheering for you guys. Gary - AB Canada
Thank you guys for sharing your experience building in the rainforest. Hope that you would consider building your home on stilts above the ground. God bless 👍😎
You guys are so awesome, love your relationship dynamics (that is on camera) You two are an amazing team. Hardest working couple I know. Mad respect! Love watching your vision for your property to come to fruition.
I love how your animals hang out close to you. It’s almost like a bunch of children who love their parents. So cute to watch. Too bad the Bobcat wasn’t reliable enough, they really are an indispensable tool for the farm. I have a Case 1845C Uniloader with a cadre of attachments that needs a new home, too bad I love that machine too much to advertise it for sale!
L.E.D lights. one or two solar panels on pole will increase the usefulness of this build 100 fold. I had to get perits and run under lines to power ours but it is well worth it to have lights. Great job. Great Video.
Yes, getting some form of electricity to the solar panels and using LED lights is a must for any shed or workspace especially if you’re trying to charge up tools
I bought a larger version of the shed and it’s been amazing. Built my own shelves out of 2x4’s and particle board for width and strength …. Love watching your adventures!
The trouble with using fence posts to make your foundation is they can warp it would have been a good idea to throw some plastic sheet down and put some gravel down then cut a ditch for a French drain because it rains so much !
You guys had me in stiches with your banter. Thanks for the enjoyable time. Many couples could not handle these tasks, but you are making light work of it.
What a beautiful shed/man cave for Matt!!!❤❤ Great hard work you two, always look forward to your weekly videos! Love your animals! You should have put a better foundation down and on cement blocks. With all the rain and humidity, your fountain is going to go bad quickly.

Clear plastic bins with lids are one of my "go-to" for organizing on shelves. Also there is a wall-mount thing that holds tons of screws and other little bits-and-bobs.

Totally agree. Here in the US Virgin Islands we call those sheds "hurricane food".
Put some rock under that shed and add concrete blocks all the way around to get it level and keep it stable.
And perhaps anchor it so it doesn't get blown away. Crossing cables over the top and anchored into ground is common.
