Exploring an Abandoned Farmhouse built in 1790 - Used in a bad Horror Movie

- Built right after America was founded, this property was constructed in the North East of the USA in 1790. Since those years many families lived on this farmhouse. Sometime in the future it was abandoned, and according to locals of the the town it was filled with bad energy and people had weird experiences there from going to the home as it was still vacant. In the 2010's a movie called Dead Souls grabbed the opportunity to film inside an actually acclaimed haunted location.
..but the movie flopped. I must say I never watched it. Trailer of the film isn't even a trailer. it makes me not want to look at it. maybe that's the horror? anyway, the inside the house was very eerie, especially with the furniture that was left as well as carvings and props from the movie set.

Well either everyone knows or doesn't care I'll tell you why homes and barns were painter red.
Decades ago or even a couple centuries ago we really had huge snow storms. I'm 70 years young and remember living in Connecticut there was snow on the ground from just before Thanksgiving until March or April. So when living in the country in the snow when it was a blizzard you could see the house or barn especially in a heavy blinding blizzard! So sometime the old farmers could only get back to the house because the red stood out in the snow, FACT!
Best to ya,,,,!
The more you know, thanks Walter!
that is interesting!
Didn't know this, but thank you for sharing, very interesting!
Red pigment was easier and cheaper to make
Hey brotha, I’m 20 years old grinding hard to get out the hood, I can’t be 30 with nothing to show for so i smoke weed on my youtube channel 😕☝️
My family were Mennonites in New England. They painted their houses and barns as a way to protect the wood and the red paint was what was available or the color farmers could make themselves. Wood carving was also common. This looks like it was a very nice home in it's day and I agree with another commenter that it should be respected as the historical site that it is. These homes are a part of our National heritage.
Love your videos, DEF! Super high quality. Very relaxing to watch with a hint of creepy vibes from the places you explore 😊 Hope everyone has a lovely weekend! 💖
Great explore. You come up with the best locations. Movie sets are a gas. Up here in MA they filmed a season of Castle Rock at a working state hospital. We got into one of the buildings they were using. The house was legit cool anyway but they dressed it up with all sorts of cool props. It was hard to tell what was original and what was movie magic. Another cool location here is where they filmed ‘Shutter Island’ Medfield State Hospital which is a fully abandoned state hospital. You can walk all around as it’s open to the public. You just can’t go in the buildings. Again, great job!
Very cool. I loved what I saw of Castle Rock. I love Stephen King 🖤
Welcome to New England. There are plenty of houses like this that people still live in. This one might be abandoned but from the 70s.
Definitely was used inhabited in the '70s. That blender, especially the green part, screams early 1970s.
I like watching you video's and to hear you talk about the things you show Brings back old memories I have lived in a house for 10yrs with out running water nor a bathroom Yes we had an outhouse out past the garage Thanks for the memories bro And have a great weekend I know i will My birthday is on Sunday and im having a party Ok you got me IAM going to be 67yrs young
Fireman 🔥🔥🔥
Im thrilled about the road that comes and goes...made a picture in my head: me in a car, driving in the area, coming from who knows where, going no place, and then, from nowhere, this house appears...
Wow that shot from the window with the decayed curtains was beautiful! Reminded me of the background menu pic from The Last of Us game!
I wouldn't know the first thing on how to find abandoned structures, I need to research being in Northern Nevada, So much history here.
You can see them just driving along, take odd back roads. I found one for sale on Redfin and went to check it out. Too far gone to be worth it given the property and neighbors, but very cool all the same!
I explored an old creepy place here in the suburbs of Chicago, it had been long abandoned, and had just been sold, so I wanted to check it out before it became a gas station and small strip mall. I only took pictures no video, I couldn't make a cool video like this.
Great episode. Professionally done, creepy scenes, good music, no cursing. Keep up the good work.
I applaud you for making note of the lack of cursing and its a shame in itself that it requires noting in the first place.
@@goofusmaximusII I find it immature, unprofessional, and too many young people are doing it on their videos. But that's just me. Thanks.
There was a door in the room where the chimney was. I bet that out house has some really cool vintage bottles buried under there. I’m sure there a few more spots because they use to move the outhouses once they got full. That would be a really cool house to fix up. My old bedroom when I was 4 in 1976 had that old vintage tile floor that was in that bedroom with the wallpaper and that place we lived in was haunted so I got the chills seeing that. Thank you, that was cool.
Very creepy old property! Great job filming! 🥰🥰🥰
I stumbled across your video and it has me thinking. It would have been cool to add clips of the movie in the shots you got in the house. Also, you didn't check out the basement, how come? Great job and I will subscribe.
Well, I went down the rabbit hole and watched the movie. It’s available on Tubi right now. The only thing I enjoyed was seeing the scenes in the movie of the rooms you filmed in the house, and noticing a lot of the items in the film were still there!
Loved seeing this house! It’s sad that it’s been there untouched for all these years. Would love to see someone buy it & restore it. Thanks so much for sharing!! ✌🏼💜☺️
Ok so what’s the name of the movie?
What’s the movie?
@@natashalove7016 It’s called Dead Souls.
@@timdavidson9591 It’s called Dead Souls.
This house is almost a hundred years younger than the one I live in, but looks very similar. Now I know what my house would look like if it had been abandoned lol.
A Dream comes true, a lovely house near the creek, I'm in for remodelling ✋😊
And even if it's haunted, so what. So you always got company😅
Nice vid Devin, like always. Greetings from over the ocean✌
Great find .. gorgeous area to film in . Did you notice that there are modern day electric bulbs in the house. Perhaps it wasn't abandened too long ago.
House was likely electrified in 1920's or 1930's. The lights at 11:35 and 13:35 use pull-chains, you wouldn't do that after the 1970's, but if elderly people lived there it wouldn't be updated for unused bedrooms. House was definitely lived in after 1970's, or at least the roof has been maintained until fairly recent times. Didn't seem to be major leaks inside.
Hey daffy...maybe the movie set put in uuuumm modern bulbs 💡
*Wow, what a neat little house. It wouldn't surprise me if it's haunted but I just love how it's a very old house and the fact that as old as it is it's still standing. I would love to own a fixed up version of it. Thanks for the Great videos you make, great content.*
This is one of the best vídeos you made!!!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 those pics On the wall were AMAZING!!!!!
Thank you ! I loved this little house
That was a very cool, vintage, old place y'all explored! I love those old places. Back in the day I might have tried cleaning up that place and living there. The last old place I lived in like that, the landlord would always come around and look through the bathroom window at me when I was naked. I called him out on it one day and that ol bastard had the nerve to tell me he didn't rent to me but he sure liked looking when he thought he wouldn't get caught. My sister moved out too after that. But I do love these old houses! Wish I could find an old place out in the country in Ms. to live in. That would be nice!!
This house would’ve been beautiful back in the day! That was a great explore, definitely had the creepy vibes going on. Hope you guys have a great weekend
What a great explore. This would have been a nice house way back when. I totally agree on the rocking chairs. You could almost sense someone sitting in them, just enjoying the view from the window. Thanks for the tour and stay safe :o)
Siding looks very good. Likely a tourist attraction, especially in October
this dudes words and terminologies / assumptions of what things are cracks me up. Stay in school kids!
DEAD SOULS was awesome! I really enjoyed it and have watched it a few times since I first saw it. Don't bank on "flopped" films. Usually they lack PR hype, not material.
This is beautiful & an amazing find!!!! So relaxing to watch...I used to go out around here n explore old abandoned farm houses in this rural area I live in this reminds me a bit of one I've seen here...so awesome!! I love it!!!!
The building at 17:40 was probably a chicken coop. At 17:10 those reinforcements are probably originally to the barn. Would need to get a little closer to see. Kind of unusual to have a wood floor on the bottom level of a barn (animals usually kept there, and manure is not good for wood). Neat exploration.
Love the toaster-looks art deco. Also the stove is cool.I wonder when the last time it was used.
The 1st rocking chair started to rock faster.
We have that same exact Premium Saltine metal cracker tin. We've had it ever since i can remember, an im 44.
This seems to be a trend at the moment going into old film sets. They are just as interesting as the usual urbexs. Thanks for sharing 😀
Absolutely loving your Chanel all the way from down under! Awesome to binge watch!
You videos are so wonderfu with the music, the camera work and you are a great host. Loved the rocker in the window light
The music adds to the creepiness. I love it
HI GUYS ,, OOHH!! THE STREAM IS WONDERFUL,, AND THAT BARN I CAN SEE IT IN THE OLD DAYS..THE DOOR HANDLES ARE GREAT!!! THE CURTAIN ROOM HAS TO BE IN THE MOVIE ITS STRANGE...LOTS OF PROPERTY.. GREAT VIDEO!!! THX.
Excellent video. I recall seeing the movie. Thanks for sharing.
I can understand your point on why the house doesnt sell, which in many cases is beacause one owner dies and the kids or family are disputing because the will was not clear, or they are only worried about the land, and not about the historical realm of the buildings. But even if it went for sale, the home as old as probably it is, its very plain. No grand entrance, no newel posts or banisters, the upstairs is unique, but most people want window light. You`d have to know and very much admire this type of architecture to enjoy this home. I am more a fan of Victorian Queen Ann, and Gothic style. Many simple farmhouses were built with some of the trimmings of that, front porch etc. The barn and sheds I love, but the house itself I find boringly depressive....
Love your style and how you capture what you explore. And love how you tell about the location. Thanks for sharing this video. Peace.
Wooo, I swear it looks like someone is looking at you when you zoom in on the floor of the outhouse!
Great explore! That house is so solid you could still restore it. The old door latches were really neat. I liked the video so much I watched it twice! Long time subscriber. Take care out there.
A really nice explore, what an awesome property.
Thank you for sharing, much love. xx ❤
Wow nice furniture, especially Rocking chairs and Crib.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The first thing I thought when I saw this house, was this house would make a great house for a film. Beautiful countryside, reminds me of England. The inside of the house does look haunted though! Beautiful old place, it would be beautiful restored. Has creepy vibes though! You have to ask yourself, why is this place empty!? 😱
Hi guys! love that old place..Great house for American Horror Story location
In "American Horror Story" what season and episode was this house?
@@valentinashtrigel6454 it wasn't in AHS, it was in some indie movie Dead Souls from 2012
@@vegetarian.vulture thank you. I just didn't know. 🙂
Nice property, really cool old house and barns. Thanks, Devin
Looked up the movie from 2012 and first pic I saw was people on the floor around that drawing...was interesting, may try to take a look at it
What was the movie name?
@@josephinehannon7835 Dead Souls 2012
Really beautiful area, and it’s always cool to look at old houses. Also looks like a prime area for ticks. Lol
Really interesting explore thanks - a beautiful old house in a beautiful place be great if someone authentically restored it in keeping historically.
7:40 that hole might have been used to dump straight razor blades, like they shaved with, down there. they used to have ones cut into medicine cabinets. they'd just drop them in and they'd collect inside the wall cavity
I grew up in an apartment building that was built in the 1930's and the medicine cabinets had the slot for used razor blades. I always wondered how many are in there and what it would look like if you could see the inside of the wall.
Most people don't know why New England houses were painted Barn Red?
why because of the British crown...
Because red paint was cheap back in the day, so the big buildings (barns) are red, and the houses got an upgrade, they were painted white. Common all across the U.S. not just New England.
I really like the peacefulness of that area.
Love your videos, I'm already subscribed and been 👍 all of them. This house is incredible especially that it's been in a horror movie, I'm always looking for videos like that. Love your channel and thank you for sharing!!!
When I was young me and the close 7 used to explore like you man cool
Just paused to begin watching Dead Souls. So far I like the movie.
I lied it too. It may have flopped in mainstream theaters but I enjoy these independent films. The story was based on a book. Pretty neat!
@@Sunnybrook-69 it wasnt even a theater movie.
it was a made for tv movie on the horror equivalent to scifi channel called chiller
A movie is available on RUclips Dead Souls 2012. The wallapepers and house itself is same.
Thanks for a great video !
This is gonna be a great explore n I know I'm gonna love whatever I see inside 👽
HI! D.E.F. your videos are epic dude, your cool I been watching your videos for years. thanks dude.
Ok so I just went and watched the movie and it wasn’t a horror movie, suspenseful but not a horror and I thought it was good. Definitely go watch after watching this video and all of the things in the house are abandoned movie props, all of this stuff is from the movie. Good job on finding and documenting this.
I kinda thought some of that furniture, especially the big couch, was a movie prop. The couch was right time period, but a little fancy for a typical farmhouse, and looked in better shape than kitchen cabinets, etc.
Hey Devon, I just watched the movie and it was pretty good!👍
What's the name of the song in the beginning? Lovely! And wonderful explore. Love it!
Love your videos love this channel ❤️
That house gave me the creeps, especially with the rocking chairs and windows on the floor. Next...
230 year old house? 😲
Yes! One of the oldest I've explored here in America
Great explore. I went ahead and watched the movie after watching your video. Definitely not Oscar material but I've seen worse. Otis Firefly was in it lol. Those holes that you thought might have been for camera placement were definitely made after the movie. The furniture and stuff you found on the walls (Egyptian) were movie props. Thanks again and keep up the great work. Oh yeah, the rusty swing was in the movie too. I'm betting there were squatters living in the house sometime after the movie was filmed there. Was there a basement in the house? The movie shows a basement with the old double doors going up and outside. Possibly shot on a soundstage if the house didn't have a basement. You should watch the movie lol.
What was the movie called?
@@marilynl335 It's called Dead Souls.
Yay! Fav way to start the weekend!
Nice video bro hell yea I love watching 👀 your awesome videos
Awesome 🤩 That’s definitely super cool 😎 I love haunted houses and vintage places 😊😊😊😊😊😊
I just watched the movie and the crib and rocking chair in the house are also props
Nice 1940s stove
LOL @ Queek pic! 😆😆😆 I say that kind of stuff all the time!
The vacuum was Cosmo and Wanda they ain’t slick
the music in the beginning of the video, the sort of creepy type was awesome good choice, are you at liberty to post a reference of the instrumental melody
Who did the music for this video? Very good!
Just watched Dead Souls and it wasnt as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
Awesome video thanks
houses back then were built to last. 1790 and still standing, a little bit of TLC and it would be livable. Meanwhile a house built in 2010 would be falling apart and look worse than this in less than 5 years after abandonment. I'm saying this as someone who lives in a new construction house. Houses today weren't built to last, they were built so you have to spend more money to fix it up.
If the property is that old. Underneath that outhouse could be old bottles, tins, jars etc.
I read the book Dead Souls, it was okay. I wouldn't call it horror but just fiction. Never knew that a movie was made out of it.
I hope you took a few queek pics before you left! 😁👍
Love this video buddy and hope you are having a good day
Quick thing just wanted to remind you of if you're going to be exploring in the New England area and this goes for anybody that explores old houses it's not a horrible idea to go in them wearing practice masks and stuff like that remember that a lot of these houses used to have asbestos in them or might even still have it in there
One of the main reasons homes go abandoned and things unclaimed is environmental hazards. It’s important to remember that in these places. Deportation/imprisonment as well as foreclosure cause people to leave things.
As long as you don't kick up dust, it should be fine. Asbestos is a problem when it's floating in the air.
There's a whole lot of abandoned rural places as farms used tractors instead of manual labor, and the young people moved to the cities for jobs. I grew up on a farm, and spent a lot of time in many rural areas ... they all have population drains unless they're close to a big town or city.
Yay!!!! Cannot wait!!!!!
The old rocking chair "just chilling"
What movie was that house in?? Any idea?
2012 Dead Souls
Cool little film; curious: what state/town is this in, if you can disclose?
I have that Premium tin! LOL Nice! Great video!!
Very well done really cool place
would love to know the real history on this house and land. sad to see old homes go to sh*t
Great video I enjoyed.
You guys didn't find a basement in the house there's a lot of them old houses in the basement themselves they have secret doors that lead to tunnels got to go check out the basement it should have one I don't know I wasn't in there.???
This property is the kind of place I am likely to find, there's nothing industrial and no large urban areas where I live. If I had stumbled across this without knowing the history, I would have been excited and also really really nervous. I don't believe in ghosts and demonic shit, but my imagination would definitely fuck me and I would have had my hand on my gun the whole time I was there. And there's no way I would have explored a place like this any later than like 10:00 a.m. on a very bright and sunny day!
That is one very creepy place 👀
Love your stuff. You’re the best. But… what the heck was the movie? I’m not reading through all your comments to try to find out. Just tell us! Please😊
It's in the description. Hit the "more" button and read it.
I just found the movie and watched it. I thought it was pretty good. Some parts scary af to me.
Your freaking awesome 👌 👏 😎
How do you guys find these places? I guess my state of Iowa is boring.
I found something like this in the suburbs of Chicago a couple years ago. You just have to look around. Iowa in particular will have a lot of abandoned farm houses as people leave the rural areas and move to cities (my parents lived in SW Minnesota for many years, and we explored a few old houses).
As soon as you said that you were knowing when I knew I was right I was saying that the whole time I live in Connecticut myself AKA New England and yeah it looks like my own neighborhood I'm wondering if the house is look like that a realtor of that strictly a New England thing cuz it does look like regular houses around here that part of the reason why I said right after that it's got to be New England judging that and by the way the scenery looks and just the year the house was built in cuz I know West Coast for an example didn't even exist at that point I don't think I could be wrong but still definitely cool if your history buff or an explorer it's definitely a nice area to live in
Just wanted to add to the reason why it doesn't look half bad in there and some of the stuff looks kind of modern to an extent especially considering when it was built I'm sure probably not too long ago there was someone actually live in there or might even been homeless person
Bro that “queek pic” made me choke on my tea
Also love your videos
I'd pay money for that table & stove!
OMG!
First time I’ve seen an urban explorer go to this location & know what they’re talking about.
Not only to you know what Latin is, but you also know what hieroglyphics are, & you know how to pronounce it 😂
What can I say Exploring with Josh…. Love him… He try’s 🤷🏻♀️😂
16:19 nobody saw that eye 👁 under the house?!
Watching Dead Souls now
