    I have to make a further comment. This video lesson was singularly the most beneficial I have seen in the past few years. The effect on my ball striking is dramatic. For the first time I now feel my lower half working correctly. Up to now I have almost been afraid to move the lower half as Eric demonstrates, but following his advice has put a different light on the downswing. Very grateful to him as I believe I can now make some significant improvements in my play.

    Eric, thanks again for another great lesson. I'm trying to master position 1:18. When I do it right contact is pure, but it's hard to do repetitively. Hoping this drill will help me lock it in. As you explained, the lower body is completely shifted to the target, but the pro's head is inches behind the ball. I'm working on it because contact is butter when done properly.

    Does this work with a 4/5 iron. I'm having a hard time hitting those clubs. Because if the 4 and 5 iron are father forward in the stance does that Mean you have to move more forward?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 месяца назад

      Hey Charles! Yes....would be the same concept here for all clubs. If you wanted to keep it simple you could draw a line up the lead ear and use that for the line the hips should always push past and head stay back over
      that eliminates the variability of club/ball position

  • @brosstiger
    @brosstiger 2 месяца назад +1

    great lesson Eric. One question - when you move your hips forward to you use your left leg to push your shoulder up? I seem to lose club head speed and want to understand how your "leg drive" works with this move. As always, appreciate how you help us "wanna be's" - haha

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 месяца назад

      Hey! Yes you do...
      As you hips push forward of your you are rotating as well.
      The lead foot pushes into the ground, the leg leg then extends which moves the pelvis and ribcage up and back which moves the shoulder up and back
      You would be extending leg along with this (same time)
      More on that here that may help:

  • @KeesCheese72

    Yo, Eric, this looks like a great drill, but it pretty much assumes the golfer has the ability to separate fairly well. I'm almost willing to bet $$$$ that most golfers don't have the ability to really separate the lower body from the upper body well enough to achieve the position that you are teaching in this video. For golfers like myself who aren't able to gain much, if any, separation in the downswing, how do we utilize this drill effectively? Whenever I try to get the lower body moving toward the target the upper body 99% of the time comes along for the ride and I end up bringing the club down Very steep, pretty much almost straight down on top of the ball to make contact because the upper body just won't stay back... very hard for me to get any separation. What is a boy to do??

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 месяца назад +1

      Hey Kevin! Well I would say for a player who struggles with this we would want to see their swing to give them individual advice on why they may not be able to move that way and how to fix as you well know :)
      So I don't have any stock answers there....depends on too many other factors.
      I will say...."separation" like of the pelvis to the torso is one thing....this ones more about extension (hips forward, chest up) which I find most golfers can physically do.
      Hope you're doing well!

    I have issues not getting the Club to hit the ground. My head is staying down. I “feel” like I have to dip my right shoulder a lot just to scrape the ground. What other things could cause missing the ground?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 месяца назад

      Yeah I would say some basics to guarantee ground contact
      1. Keep weight a bit more on lead side (60%)
      2. Make sure you get lead shoulder down in backswing enough
      3. Trail shoulder down in follow through enough
      4. Arms straight through the ball

      So you keep your body inclination to ground (through the shoulders down on both sides)
      And you make sure arms get straight enough through the ball to lengthen the arc
