Funny you got back into pokemon around the same time I have (with the games, not cards for me). I just beat brilliant diamond and had a blast. In the middle of Pokemon Gold, the first RPG I ever played as a kid and it still holds up today. It amazes me how much they got right with the first games. I have trouble with the new pokemon and my team always ends up 80% the OG 150, but they’re still fun.
I never played the gen 4 games but I hear they're really good ones. I don't even know why I never played the original Diamond or Pearl considering I had a DS. Gold and Silver are incredible though, they're definitely my favourite of all of the Pokemon games I've played! But yeah they absolutely nailed almost ever element of the games really early on, to the point where they haven't actually changed all that much since then haha!
Interesting, I might check out the TCG at some point… As for the games, Pokémon Legends Arceus does not have any online components but it does have a more advanced battle system and an emphasis on collecting and researching Pokémon in an open-area format. So you might like that one.
You should definitely check it out! Just be warned that it's pretty addictive once you get started :D I did actually get Legends Arceus, I always forget it exists for some reason! Probably because it's not considered a 'core' game. I liked all the character customisation stuff and how it felt more organic going out and catching the Pokemon, but I ended up getting bored with it because the open world felt a bit barren and uninteresting. But maybe I should go back and play it some more, it might get better in that aspect when you unlock more areas.
have you ever played the gbc english patch for pokémon trading card game 2? i'm just starting it but so far not impressed with the font its barely readable (to be fair playing it on a handheld, but to also be fair it should especially be readable on handhelds!). maybe it gets better
I've actually only just played the original Pokemon Trading Card Game since it was put onto the Switch! That was timed pretty well considering I had only recently started playing the actual card game! That is disappointing to hear about the second game though, maybe whoever did the patch could offer some sort of update to fix the font?
I've been on the fence about getting into the Pokémon TCG for years, but recently I convinced myself I didn't want to spend money and I thought was out of the woods... And then you release this. Disliked! 😫 Just kidding, great video! I will definitely check the Battle Academy set. I bought the Detective Pikachu one back when it released along the movie, but more out of collecting rather than playing. Regarding the games... Scarlet/Violet definitely have issues, but at the same time they're pretty fun, specially compared to previous games. Another game that got a lot of flak was Legends: Arceus, but people seem to have warmed up to it as time went by. While it strays a bit from the old formula, it's a very interesting and fun game, I loved it and I totally recommend it. Other than that... Black/White and Black/White 2 are fan favourites, but really, you can't go wrong with Pokémon games. If you're a fan of the old games, you can definitely try FireRed/LeafGreen for the GBA and/or Heart Gold/Soul Silver for the DS. They are remakes of the first and second games, respectively, and they do a great job. Prices online may vary, but you can get lucky (assuming you don't want to sail the seven seas 🏴☠). Also, don't overlook the "Mystery Dungeon" series of games if you like dungeon crawlers, they can be pretty fun! If you have more questions about the games, I will gladly answer.
Haha! Yeah it can be quite an expensive hobby to get into, that's why it's best to stick with the cheaper stuff like the Battle Academy set and the older cards to begin with. It's very tempting to just go for the new sets though because of how hyped up they can be! I have actually played Legends Arceus a little bit, I probably should have mentioned that in the video! I did like it but I found it a little bit repetitive and there wasn't really a lot going on in the open world sections so the exploration didn't feel particularly interesting. Maybe I should revisit it though and give it another shot. I have heard that Black/White are really good, maybe I should give those a go. I would be tempted to play Diamond/Pearl too because that was around the time I stopped playing them. Having said that though I did play LeafGreen and Heart Gold! I absolutely love them, Heart Gold in particular I think is the best Pokemon game I've ever played.
Missed your videos on this channel dude
There's going to be more coming too! I'm hoping to get an update video up soon to go more into it all 😀
