    Ronda Rousey was the highest paid fighter in the UFC. Why? Because people wanted to see her. She deserved her salary because she was the biggest draw. Nothing to do with her being a man or a woman. Most people don’t care about WNBA, that’s a fact.

    That argument from the WNBA player saying she deserves Harrison Barnes’s salary because she’s more “accomplished” in her league is crazy talk. I’m actually a 10-time world champion in my backyard football league with 60,000 career rushing yards and I’ve stiff-armed my dumb neighbor in the face like 100 times, and Tom Brady’s sorry ass only has what… 7 rings? I have four batting titles and have led the league in WAR NINE consecutive years. In my rookie year in Texas I had a 120 OPS + and for the last 9 seasons it hasn't gone below 160. I was also kind of robbed of at least two MVPs...
      In two seasons, I'll be confortably over 3000 hits, 500 HRs, 500 SB and 150 WAR... And I accomplished all that playing half my career in the most demanding franchise in MLB. You know how much I get paid??? Other than the fictional 330 million for the 11 years I signed, NOTHING!

    • @qty1315
      @qty1315 2 года назад +60

      There's some irony in that statement since a big thing that people used to say in defence of the WNBA was that it wasn't about high scores like the NBA, it was about skilled women showing off their skills, marketing it as though you'd see low-scores because the defence was so much better than in the NBA, meaning that you'd see much more intense and skillful games in the WNBA than you'd see in the NBA.

But we should and can't ignore that people ultimately are not the same and thus even the value they bring in the world is not the same. It doesn't disregard their effort nor the importance of that value to society on whatever level. Like with any ecosystem, every part matters. But wanting that everyone is top of the food chain is unrealistic.
      Pretty much why we have NBA and WNBA and not mixed gender NBA where teams are made according to skill and not political, like mandatory to have x numbers of players of that gender and x numbers of another gender. It's not realistic.

    As an accountant, I look at the numbers and wonder where the arrogance of WNBA players comes from. The WNBA is an enterprise that would not exist but for the financial support of the NBA. If that funding ever stops, this conversation is moot. In the real world if your business is not profitable you won’t be around in 25 years. I don’t see how lashing out at the NBA or critics of the WNBA helps the WNBA achieve profitability but somehow I suspect that sort of behavior will continue. That also means I will continue to spend my time and my entertainment dollars elsewhere.

Most men between the ages of 15 to 20 of average skill could wipe the floor with any WNBA team, this is why we don’t watch it because we believe in our heads whether it’s true or not that we were at one time as good if not better than they are. As a retired counselor with 46 years of experience, my observation of the WMBA is that a group of players who either will not or cannot or refuse to face the reality of their situation. I had many people across the years of my practice who were likeminded. Facing reality isn’t fun but very necessary. I hope they face it soon.

If the NBA stops paying this league and basically forces them to get sponsors and stuff like that they know these women will snap at them for being sexist and not caring about women's basketball on the other hand though when a NBA player shows them kindness they bite their head off. The WNBA is largely populated by a segment of women that fuels the gender wars. They have the type of personality that wants to compete with men and out do them, and when it comes to professional basketball at this point in evolution, that is an unwinnable battle. So they come off as salty when they should be grateful. Without NBA funding the league would've folded by now, or they would be scrapping by making significantly less pay.

    I cannot stress this enough, I got freebies to a Liberty game a few years back, and I cannot remember the opponent not what team won. It was just awful to watch. The game is crap, and I cannot believe the WNBA champs could beat the NYC High School Champs. As a matter of fact, I would bet everything I own and bet the High school kids would rip them apart. It happened to the women's soccer team; a high school team killed them, and the same thing to Serena Williams in a doubles match; she could not return a volley from a man.

    Lower the rim in the WNBA and make the Court smaller and I guarantee you it will become immediately more watchable and fun. The slower pace is helped because there's less distance to travel so it appears the game is quicker, and the rim being lower will help scoring and dunking. Snobbery and wanting to be the same as men is what's hurting the WNBA. The organisation needs to swallow it's pride and make the necessary changes to help make it entertaining, which is the purpose of a sport. Entertain the audience and help them to invest their time and money into following it. Bigger audience means more women watch the sport and more young girls begin to idolise the players in the league and want to emulate them and the talent pool grows. They need to give up trying to compete with the NBA. they will never win, they need their own audience

If y’all wanna get paid more the NBA alr funding the WNBA. If the WNBA can’t make enough money to get paid more with the nba funding obviously nobody wants to watch your sport. It’s like being a professional racket ball player in America and asking to get paid millions of dollars. Ain’t nobody wanna watch racket ball especially if theres tennis. And if nobody wants to watch it then your not gonna make good money.

    I'd be glad I was getting paid to play a sport instead of grinding out a living working a job. Years ago, men players didn't make enough money playing to live off of, they had to keep their day job. It took years for the NBA, MLB NFL etcetera to get to that point. I'd love to see softball, women's rugby and other sports grow. They need the time to do so. They're also competing with well established sports. That's something male sports didn't have to contend with in the mid to late 1800s when those sports started establishing themselves professionally. Screaming about it isn't going to make it happen. Getting out there, playing, improving those sports is.

      It's the same moaning rubbish from the women in the WSL in Britain. Since winning the Euro Trophy in July one of the ex players came out with a classic piece of delusionary thinking - "We should play ALL of our WSL matches at Premiership grounds this season". IS SHE SERIOUS?. They can't even fill the 3rd rate training grounds that they play at now - the average attendance is STILL 600-1200 AND THAT'S AFTER THEY'VE WON THE EURO CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY. What other proof do they want that if the tournament tickets weren't subsidised by the FA then they would have been lucky to attract a stray dog with fleas!!.

      Glad you brought up women’s rugby because well it has grown. I remember watching a decade ago and being uninterested because it was too soft and lacked the skill offered by the men’s professional level. Now, I watch some of those game like NZ women and my reaction is “damn they are ruthless and fearless” which is entertaining in a rugby context. A sport like rugby won’t be equal because well 100-150kg freaks of nature that could all dump me at a 100m is super entertaining but it took time for men rugby to get there, a lot of time. I think a lot of people don’t like it when new leagues come along and feel entitled to have the same pay as other leagues without having put in the work and time to deserve it. UFC does a great job at that, some of these female MMA fighters are payed too dollar because they put in the work which in turn makes any of their fights interesting and entertaining to watch.

    They should lower the frickin RIM in the WNBA. If they did that, it would make it more interesting. They can dunk, have less air balls, not miss layups as much, and over all be more competitive. If it was more competitive, the game would be a lot more fun to watch but I doubt this is going to happen because the players are going to be butthurt.
