Awesome breakdown! Couple of notes: - Alive already existed on The New Wave EP in 1994 and wasn't "remixed" to be put on Homework - the title "Alive 2007" is more of a reference to their first live album "Alive 1997" which was a reference to the track Alive. - That Wax Poetics interview is from 2013 not 2021 - The dudes with huge shoulders in the Around The World music video are supposed to be Jocks - Also the current thumbnail is not Daft Punk, those are cosplayers
omg gotwub pleasure to see you here... used to watch u like 7 years ago in middle school when i was super obsessed with daft punk! glad to see u still got the facts lol
What’s cool about Thomas and Guy-Manuel never forgot their roots and especially their best friend Laurent and even appeared as Daft Punk with Phoenix during their tour in 2010, they only appeared at Madison Square Garden and it would be their final performance for a paying audience
Homework blew my mind when it came out. Revolution 909 is probably my favorite track but Around the World was on repeat for hours while cruisin in my friends van taking bong rips in the back seat. Good times
I very much appreciate the French pronunciation of Thomas and Guy-Man. Homework brought us so much gems and there's been so many songs that sampled Homework. Timeless record.
Respect for putting or helping put that homage performance together. That's unique and personal, love it. I had this album before discovery came out and there was something special about that time period. Maybe it's because rave scenes still felt like rave scenes and not over-produced nonsense and promotional tie-ins posing as a rave. This took me back ❤
You know what? I don't mind the shortened versions of your videos. We understand the whole Copyright thing. BTW I have HOMEWORK on vinyl and Discovery! Two of my Daft favs
"I have HOMEWORK on vinyl and Discovery!" Let's be honest, the only two DP albums worth discussing. And yes, I'm including Random Access Memories in this!
@@TimWrightDJI don’t think that’s true - While those two albums are their best work, Human after all and Random Access Memories are really important. Human after all ushered in an era where heavier electronic music entered the mainstream. Genres like dubstep would become prevalent in the late 00’s and early 10’s, and edm would get heavier as a whole in the blog house era. The Alive 2007 show proved how that kind of music worked. RAM doesn’t get enough credit for shaping a lot modern pop. This was the first major project to “go back” and reach into the sounds of disco, funk, and soft rock from the 70’s + 80’s. The amount of records now that reach back is higher than ever. The best selling single of all time, The weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” is a 80’s throwback, as well as the rest of the album. Dua Lipa’s “Future Nostalgia” took over and is based on the same tropes of RAM. Hell, the biggest song in the world as of now, “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, is a throwback to disco. Just to name a few… I agree that Homework and Discovery matter the most to electronic music, but the other albums are worth it too in my Opinion. Every release, while not perfect, was a cultural reset for the music zeitgeist.
I just wanted to say that I just recently started producing music, and you single-handedly have helped me so much. From teaching me techniques in your videos, to the deal with traclib, I just wanted to show some love!
The reason that Da Funk got commercially popular is because The Chemical Brothers played it a lot on their DJ sets. Da Funk was a part of a genre called Big Beat which The Chemical Brothers pioneered.
Homework was never topped by other DP albums,IMO. It was groundbreaking and didn't conform to any rules. I bet Rollin' & Scratchin' still blows minds to first time listeners today, and Revolution 909 or Around the World still can hold their own on the dance floor after almost 30 years.
you pronounced them to my German ears very right. :D I love your channel because, you don't cover just one genre, you put in so much effort and joy that it's fun to watch. Love it. Wait a minute, wasn't Good Time also the foundation to Queen's - Another one bites the dust? Except the ending, which was cut off obviously due to copyright reasons? If no one realized this, I did, CHEERS. We all got Bach'd, oh my goshies, I thought Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a freaky nerd, but even Bach? Hold my chords. Okay,. another footnote on that comment, but I wanna see this whole recreation and enjoy it in the fullest. This is my last editorial to this comment, I swear. Darn it, he got me at the end. I love your content man. I learn tons of stuff from it.
I know Daft Punk is retired but they could get back together to make Homework II. Ya know because it's so different, amazing, and the best album they ever made..
Hey Brandon! Thanks for all your music videos, mate. You nailed it with our Chicago House Music deriving from the death of Disco. One question, is that a U.S. military coin in your 1200’s 45 holder? Cheers from a U.S. Air Force vet retired in the UK! 🇺🇸🇬🇧
I can honestly say, I was one of the first prople to buy this album. My friend worked at a music store (when we still had them), and told me to check it out. The thing that surprised me the most was that an album this good was on sale. It was brand new, but nobody seemed to buy it. Once the music video came out (the one with the dog costume) they blew up. I think it was like a year later. I was really glad Daft Punk was successful. I thought it was really cool that some french dudes were into Chicago house music. After this album I started listening to more French artists.
Hi! Rly rly love ur channel and this video I’ve rly enjoyed your dive into electronic music and I really think you should do a video/look into Boards of Canada and Aphex twin for insane sampling !
I've always known of Daft Punk, but really got into them after getting into synthesizers. My favorite track of their's is actually Da Funk partly because it uses two synths I have: the Korg MS-20 and Roland TB-303.
I remember one night, in the 90s, the DJ on 107.7 KNDD The End was giving a traffic report and Da Funk was playing in the background, but everyone ended up calling in to know what that track was. It was ON for me
I remember watching a documentary years ago on all the music videos Michel Gondry has directed/produced. I don't remember the name of it, but I believe this was one of his first music videos.
Disco Demolition at sox park was the fundamental kick off in Chicago and from that gave us all the house styles we have today. And we can thank Steve Dahl as well as blame him. The birth of house music....nowadays called Chicago House is such a badass historical tale.
Homework is an ode to the music they were influenced by, but foremost an album for the dance floor. And that’s maybe why sometimes it’s not as highly rated as say discovery, which is more an album for listening. But at underground parties in the 90ies tracks like rollin’ and scratching and rock ‘n roll devastated dance floors. It showed daft punks DIY punk approach to house.
During the college recital footage is that Havve Hogan from TWRP behind the Macbook or am I trippin? Also I'm always hyped for more history about my favorite band
Absolutely doing right once again Extremely insightful and deeply researched. I gotta ask though you gonna do human after all? I know it's not technically the most interesting or strong, but it made alive 2007 a tank test of your ability to be assaulted by the grimiest acid lines.
the music "Alive" is NOT a remix of "The New Wave", they made 3 song on an EP, "The New Wave", Assault" and "Alive" and "Alive" was the only one saved for their album

Indeed you should, what a great cover. Kudos. The wise algorithm of Alphabet gave me a link to another masterpiece. This time to a new song of Thomas Bangalter of the amazing variety. Debuted 7 days ago.
Im a simple man i see Daft Punk and I watch
100% respect for remaking the Around the World video in college. Seeing that makes me appreciate the videos you make now even more.
