- Today's video is on the LG G4 Evo Oled with MLA and 144hz gaming. While the focus is on gaming in this video, I can easily recommend the G4 for all uses cases. In this video, we will be going through gaming on both console and PC . We will use a PS5 and a PC equipped with an NVIDIA 4090 GPU. The G4 is amazing. I am also looking at the 83"... it's a fairly decent jump in price from the 77" (almost $2k). 65" to 77" just over $1k. But I am going to go with the 83"

@@JoseHerrera-me8xc not yet. I have a PS5 but I don't have blu-ray movies I just watch streaming. I believe it would probably look even better through blu-ray though. I mostly use it for gaming but I will say movies and shows look great with streaming.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY I keep my lg g3 this year. and no exchange it for the lg g4. not worth the upgrade. if you come from g2 its a bigger upgrade. from g3 to g4 not. 100 nits more. Really there’s not much improvement left for WOLED other than better uniformity as I believe we’ve hit the ceiling of its performance without blue ph-OLED. 2026 blue ph oled!

Just got my 83G4 installed yesterday and it’s amazing, especially for gaming. By far the brightest 83 inch OLED. I’m coming from a 83G3 and 83A90J and it blows both away.

Brian brother awesome video. Please for the love of god you have to mount this tv!!! The G2 I mounted in my living room gets so many compliments, men and women walk up to it to see how seamless it is on the wall. It pisses my wife off bc she takes pride in the decor and the tv I spent 20 minutes to hang gets all the attention! It’s truly a masterpiece

Welp that decided it for me; getting a G4 this summer. I’m coming from a KS8000; the upgrade is going to be massive.
I said that LG came out swinging this year and the G4 looks stunning in every way. If I were in the market for a new tv in 2024 the G4 would be the one I would go with no questions asked. Excellent video my brother.

I have been debating between the Sony Q-D OLED and now with the LG G 4 ( I was convinced QD-OLED had killed W-OLED 6 but I am glad I waited) just might stick with them. Quick question: How’s the uniformity? I’ve owned LG OLEDs, Samsung QD-OLEDs, and Mini LED TVs. And the QD OLEDs had the best uniformity, with LG OLEDs coming in second. I always worried about panel lottery with uniformity.
A TV so good that you almost want to reach out and touch some of the images on well mastered content as if they were real.
If things are this good now, imagine in 5 or 10 years? Mind blowing!

So I got the s95d and having some fomo here especially after seeing dolby vision for pc which I've been screaming from the rooftops about for ages..but I'm going to stick with it. Even though it cost me about $1200 to add a warranty that LG gives for free. And I probably could've moved from 77 to 83 with that 1200..and even though my flagship marantz av10 processor will not connect to the s95d over earc...!! And even with the clunky UI..and even though I have to go "click, over, over, down, down, over, over" to get to a damn hdmi input(source needs to be powered on or it just disappears by the way)....
I'm still keeping it. It's awesome, and I am in love with the lack of reflections. Also the hue sync app turns on with the tv and syncs all my lighting to the screen, then turns off with the tv. I have lots of hue lights and it looks really cool.
Classy is going to calibrate it on Monday so I'm happy about that. Coming from a calibrated tv it looks like I'm always in vivid mode

Exciting times, my gf upgraded to the x950h, and I haven't yet done the leap. Considering G4, A95M or X95M, at 75", it will be a hard choice, but I really like what I've seen in videos of game mode upscaling from Sony along with reality creation. I guess emulation and computer upscaled image could solve some of that for older games. Hope you will do a game mode HDR settings comparison like you did last year with the qn95c and x95L where the samsung beat the sony in saturation and clarity in high resolution content. The 5090 is also releasing this year, it will be really exciting

Would like to see how it upscales older consoles, if possible. Looking back at older generations like PS2/GameCube/Xbox as well as PS3/Xbox 360. It’ll be interesting to see how good motion handling is performed on the older content and if it reproduces/upscales it faithfully into 2024

Gaming the focus here. I’m only interested in quality Blu-ray movie use. Have Samsung S8977 delivery for late May, at only 1800. But 83 size alluring. But 6500- brutal! Still tempting though
I temporarily had a G3 and it looked incredible but had constant handshake issues with my xbox, which is apparently a known issue. had to trade it in for a Sony X95L and have been much happier. I hope that has been resolved this model year.

Definitely considering for my next set. Too bad 77” doesn’t come with the stand as well. Probably another $250 on top of $4600. Still rockin’ my 75” QN90A waiting to make the proper OLED leap or waiting another 6-7 years for Micro-LED.
The wait for an affordable Micro-OLED will probably be considerably longer than 7 years, unless you want (or will be able) to spend at least $30,000 for a TV!

GSYNC is definitely not working in your video and there is evident screen tearing in the Doom part.
(Correctly detected as off in Game optimizer)
1. Check if you have VSYNC set to always ON on control panel. Gsync ONLY works properly if BOTH are set to on.
2. Always Disable the FREESYNC Toggle in the game optimizer menu if your pc uses nVidia GPU.
3. Do not forget that in order to completely eliminate tearing and frame pacing issues it is always needed to set "Max FPS" setting in control panel to 2 - 3 fps LOWER than your TVs maximum refresh rate.
142F FPS will be just fine for the G4.

Thanks Brian! What a beautiful screen. G1 user here. I still love it after 4000+ hours of heavy gaming. The only thing that I don't like (in some games) is the color banding, especially in the sky, Ghost of tsushima (ps5) is a very good example, game looks awesome but the sky often has a lot of banding. I know it's often due to poor optimization of the game itself but there are tv features like smooth graduation that should help. But I found it relatively useless, it has nearly no impact. Is there still so much banding? And is LGs smooth graduation feature working better now? For years sony had the best "smoothing". How is it today? Greetings from germany and keep up the good work!
That is always a challenge my friend. The sky box in many games especially console will have artifacts that also show the screens flaws. Unfortunately it's also on mini-led but shows up differently.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Yeah my beloved predecessor Sony x900e was better with it's graduation feature. But as I said, I'm more than happy with my G1, absolute powerhouse of a tv. I'll keep it for a while. But the G4 looks awesome. Looking forward to some movie based reviews. A friend of mine has the G2, and i have to say even this successor was a step up in movie performance in comparison.
Hey Brian! As one of my top TV reviewers that I have been watching for years, I need your advice. I'm coming from a 2010 55-inch LGLH lcd TV and this will be my first year purchasing an OLED. I'm looking at the 77-inch G3 or the 77-inch G4. So, what I need to know is there a big enough difference between the two to justify the extra cost of the G4? Also, if possible, could you do a comparison between these two. Again, thank you so much for the care and preparation that you put into your videos. Lastly, please review the AI Picture Pro feature.

Hey bud, love the content. Been on some of your live streams as well. Question, 65” g4 or 77” sn95d (dark room performance is all that matters). I can get the 77” sn95d for the price of a 65” same tv so it’s tempting. I’m pc master race to the core, and run nvidia 3090 gpu. Any help appreciated.

Finally 83 inch mla and 144hz, was hoping for 4k 165hz, hopefully next year 4k 240hz if were lucky. Next year is the year to buy, apparently blue phosphorus oled is coming n its significantly brighter. Does the s95d have slightly raised blacks even in a dark room with no lights?

Does the G4's Game Mode have color boost enabled so it looks the same as FMM and are there any noticeable brightness differences between the two modes ? That for me is the most important factor in deciding between getting the G4 or picking up the G3... Thanks also for the video..
It does. This has been confirmed by several sources. Color boost is now available in Game Mode.

I wanna hear more, like if sdr gaming is still dim this year, which has been a downside with LG specifically for a long time and more about the 1000, 4000 and 10,000 nit settings and how those work and change the image. Thank you. I've saving for this now coming from the LG C1, which has a really good tv and movie image, but struggles with gaming.

Would the G4 still be your pick in the 55 and 65 inch size? I'm looking to upgrade from an LG B7 55 inch and refrained from the G3 because of the lack of a stand and the QD-OLED hype. I don't game, mostly series and movies.
Brian, greatly enjoyed your gaming review which I’m also enjoying right now. A question though: I’m having an issue with the G4 turning on randomly by itself. Called LG and told me to simply turn off internet connectivity! Insane. It seems that the culprit might be HomeKit. Have you seen this? Never had this issue with the C3 or the CX. Thanks for your thoughts! Very frustrated at the moment.
So sorry to hear that, my friend. I haven't experienced it yet in my time with these G4's but it's definitely different living with them. They definitely need an update. You have called them and have it documented. I'd definitely contact the retailer as well to have it documented as it will and should increase your return window
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Hey Brian, I know you are probably continuing to test the LG G4. However, there seems to be a significant issue with this TV and was wondering if you have discovered it as well (unless I have been unlucky with two units already): The LG OLED G4 seems to be having a significant issue with HDMI2 (eARC). Connecting external video sources to HDMI2 (which work on the other the other 3 HDMIs) do not produce an image (but you can hear sound). I have done all the troubleshooting in the world in order to try to isolate the issue to no avail (changing HDMI cables, factory resets, hard resets, removing the HDMIs one by one and re-adding them one by one, turned off HD color). Nothing works. The interesting thing is that this issue temporarily goes away with a hard reset, but it quickly returns.
After unsuccessful attempts at getting effective tech support from LG, I purchased a second 65 G4. Exact same issue! On 4/4/24, LG pushed down an update 3.10.27 which has not resolved the prob(in fact, it's not even addressed in the release notes). I should also point out that the setup I am using is the exact setup I have had with a C9, CX and a C3 just before getting the G4. This HDMI2 issue never occurred with the other TVs.
The devices I am talking about which work on other HDMIs but not in HDMI2 of the above-referenced TVs are Fire TV 4K stick, Nintendo Switch, Apple TV 4K and PS5.
If this is a software issue, then it can hopefully be addressed quickly by LG, seeing that the G4 is their flagship OLED and the problem is with the most important HDMI - the HDMI2. However, if this is a hardware problem (difficult to believe that both units were defective - in fact, I heard from another LG customer that he is having the same issue with a 83 G4), then LG has its work cut out for it. I can't think of many people who would be willing to wait for a hardware fix which would require for a part to be replaced by a tech's visit on a brand new TV which has been lauded by LG as ground-breaking.
All this would be very easily clarified by LG, but up until this point, it seems to be pushing customers (at least me) to an endless loop of bad customer service and then either that (a) the unit is defective and sine it's under the 30 (or 60 in my case) day return period, it can be returned, or (b) to send a tech to diagnose the issue. What exactly the tech would do beyond what i have done to troubleshoot has not been communicated by LG (unless they believe I would be conformable in having the tech open up a brand new TV and start exploring . . .).
This is very disappointing. I hope that the various reviewers take note of this very easily identifiable problem (all you have to do is connect a few video sources into HDMI2 and observe for a few hours while turning the TV off and on an again). This way, the interested customers would be informed and LG would provide some information on this issue.

How is the screen uniformaty, dse and vertical banding? If you watch sports those are so important.
Same one im looking at.. just undecided because of that $6500 price point.
I really want one of these suckers but they need to sort out the stand availability, for the 77" and above.

Hey Brian, I have the Samsung S90C, generation two panel, does the G4 completely blow this TV away? If so, isit by a longshot? My only complaints about the s90C is not having Dolby Vision , but in your views is that a big issue?
