    2021 June Garden Tour: • June Container Garden ...
    Hello! My name is Bethany and I grow things in my rooftop container garden in Chicago, zone 6a. May flew by so fast and it is now time for the June garden tour!
    The Spring crops have been pulled and the Summer plants are in their place. Now it's time to watch them grow.

    The best place for long container with morning glories is next to metal structure with the first morning glory in a pot. They need A LOT of space for blooms to climb up to something TALL.

    I’m back for another update of your beautiful garden. It’s amazing to see the changes in your plants over time. I look forward to watching your garden grow! I love watching my garden grow a little each day, that is my favorite part of gardening. It’s so fun to have the growth documented over the season to look back at and see progress. I love that about being a garden RUclipsr. Let’s learn & grow more together!

    Love your garden 🪴❤️ every time you said morning glory it freaked me out 😂 we get morning glory in our grass and it’s hard to get rid off because it’s wild.

      I was going back and forth on planting it but I’m hoping since I just have containers and a deck that it won’t be too much of an issue, but we’ll see after this year if I ever grow it again 🤣

    If you are still looking for a space for those morning glories, they make a really pretty “spiller” plant in tall pots or hanging baskets. 🤩

    First of all, thanks for sharing your BEAUTIFUL garden! I have never gardened on a rooftop, but I imagine you likely have a lot of advantages... less pest pressure, more sunlight and controlled shade, very fun. Your herb garden is really gorgeous, I love the layering and the terra cotta pots.
    Also, your Hydrangea are stunning. Have a beautiful weekend!

      Other than carrying everything up stairs, I love gardening on a rooftop! There are a lot fewer issues I have to deal with compared to others

    Thanks so much for the tour. I wish I had that much room. I do have a south facing balcony that is about 10' long (the usual apartment size balcony) and gets morning sun but there is a large tree that starts to block the sun after about 5 hours. I'd like to grow sunflowers too. Do you think I'm getting enough sun for them? Happy gardening.

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  2 года назад

      I say try and see what happens! I grew a tomato plant on a balcony a few years ago that got about 4-5 hours of afternoon light and even though it didn’t grow as large as it would have in full sun I did still get some tomatoes from it, so it was worth it. Are you growing any part shade plants?

    • @rfoley402
      @rfoley402 2 года назад

      @@ChicagoGardener Hi, yes, I'm growing all kinds of plants right now. Petunias, calibrachoas, geraniums, coleus, mandevilla, a Knockout rose bush, a small birch tree, hosta, most of my houseplants are out on the balcony for the summer. Everything looks pretty good right now. I love sunflowers and thought they needed ALOT of sun to grow well. I think that I will give it a go. I'm in south central PA.

    Do you keep a notebook of your garden? I can’t remember everything

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  2 года назад +1

      Sort of! I have a list of everything I started from seed, so I know the names of those pretty well, but I’ve done my best this year to keep the tags on each plant (something I didn’t do last year 😆)

      Both the wooden rack and the black metal stands I got on Amazon! Ufine bamboo wooden plant stand and jepreco plant stand are what you can search for.

    Hi! I’m pretty much in the same zone as you NWI .. so just curious if we would be able to grow fruit successfully? And which type are best? Thanks✨🤍

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  2 года назад +1

      I grew up in NWI! Growing up, we had apple, pear, and cherry trees and right now I’m growing blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries so you can definitely grow fruit! I’d say strawberries have been the easiest and work great in containers of all sizes. Raspberries also grow incredibly fast. I’m hoping to one day attempt a potted fruit tree on my deck!
