It was too woke, too self aware and didn't do the whole usual brainwash escapism formula that most movies Hollywood does today. It was too self-conscious. Let I remind you that it's the same industry that would rather make well thought of and well written 2 to 3 hour films about mental psychopaths of the same skin complexion as them (100 movies and shows about Jeffrey Dahmer and a literal 3 hour movie about a pig who created a weapon of genocide to drop in a village of a country) than make a well written and thought provoking films like Malcom X, Selma, 42 and Ray. They don't to show the human side of your our black asses but would rather do the exact thing for murderers. They'd rather portray us in stereotypical ways and portray scenes of us beating our women. The Miles Davis movie is an obvious example. They would rather portray us as pimps and gangsters. The Bob Marley movie was literally only 1 hour. It wasn't even 2 hours.
When Erykah Badu's Tyrone started at the end and I'm like "wait a minute, something is different". From start to finish, this movie was absolutely amazing because of how surreal yet symbolic it was.
Boy I watched this film 3 times in about two days when i finally watched it. Thought it was funny, surreal and thoughtful. Definitely recommend. Super rewatchable
this was a great essay! the scene where they realised that the chicken was affecting them really reminded me of a moment in the odyssey, where odysseus' men join the lotus eaters and forget their desire to return home (nostos). where the danger in the odyssey is simply forgetting their nostos, the danger here is the system that supplies the lotuses/chicken, as well as the hair cream. however ig it's more likely referring to the roman idea of 'bread and circuses', governments using food and entertainment in order to distract the subjugated populations (the plebians in ancient rome, and black communities here) from the harm they cause. either way this movie is great at breaking down such complex topics!
Its still the plebeians they suppress (ie. everyone who can’t afford to buy his own politicians and has to work for a living). Its just that they abuse the black people on top of that, because the new romans are also racist.
This was such a weirdly insightful movie. The satire leading to a serious underlying story was such excellent delivery. It’s a good critique of the system and people’s participation (willing or unwilling) in it. It’s great it ends the film with pointing out it’s on the community to come together after awakening to the reality of the system
Yup the very fact that it literally indirectly highlights the basic fact that folks such as Tyrone & Jamie + other characters have been weaponized against themselves & Blk America by the system. And are merely tools used by the system to benefit the system. Pretty sadly much knowingly/unknowingly be part of the modern day Klan or AntiBlack WS element in actual Blk face. Long story short it's unsugar coatedly realer than alot of folks can face or want to acknowledge. Not to different than the unsugar coated truth parts that the late (RIP) Dr. Frances Cress Welsing tried to put us up on game to. Which her final conclusion or psychological breakdown on WS. Has literally already been confirmed. By the KK K historically well known we must save the Wt/Arya n race slogan alone. Only part that needs to be added is the overlooked biblical aspect. Just like most still don't realize the biblical aspect of what folks are calling African American reparations. African American reparations is really simply a part of the proper biblical a tonement making process. Which is connected to one of the primary reasons that this place or Natio n is currently falling off. Or really is simply already under the j udgment of God Almighty. This film gave me. Black Dynamite vibes, which I was lucky enough to see on the big screen.i love the ambiguity of when it actually takes place. People drive old whips and talk like it's the 70's, but you have Tyrone who's full on a 90's cat. Like Tim Burton's Batman where it was clearly taking place in modern times but felt like the 50's
I kept thinking that Slick looked familiar and realized it was Jaime Foxx. I have seen him in so many movies and he is mega-famous, but his ability to completely transform himself into the character and make me forget that he is "Oscar Winner Jaime Foxx" is unmatched. This movie deserved so much more discourse than it received. It had heavy themes but I was consistently entertained. Thank you for making this video, it was really interesting and well constructed.
I remember going to see Oppenheimer and sitting there for the entire 3 hours and being so unbelievably bored. It wasn't because it was a boring movie, it just didn't excite me enough. The day after I saw Oppenheimer, I saw this movie and I was BLOWN AWAY by how amazing this was
Gosh thank you for this video this movie was so underrated throughout the year bc of the Barbie and opprehemier craze that summer and given the fact that it’s on Netflix, making it more niche and smaller to audiences especially when we know Netflix doesn’t like promoting/marketing works that aren’t one of their top shows or produced by a acclaimed/legendary filmmaker. I also think it was underrated bc as quiet as it’s as kept, people only like having black people in diverse film genres if it’s in the form of respectability politics no mention of race and always making sure they’re in closer proximity to middle/upper class white areas, whenever a film features black people within inner city/working class areas it’s automatically dismissed as black tramua they don’t want to incorporate sci-fi, fantasy and horror within hood black stories that adds nuances, complexity and challenging white gaze coded visual storytelling I love it took that route with this film

When I told the plot to this to my roommates, they dismissed it entirely but were ready to watch You People with Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy. They will only watch black entertainment if it was solely made for them to understand and consume

On the purple drink note. My sisters and I attended catholic school and when went to mass they never let us have the communion until we were older. They used wine our black church used ‘grape juice’
The part about being truly free meaning ultimately wanting to free others really stuck with me. Like this video, the problem isn't us who saw the movie and clicked on this video. It's the people that haven't, and don't care to think about these things. With religion or voting, it's equally hard to change someone's beliefs or interest in any system. And to truly try and "free" someone may go against everything they've believed in. Amazing movie. Amazing breakdown ✌🏾
I'm going to have to wrestle with that idea for a while. Y'know when they wrote about "life, liberty... etc" those people only lacked liberty in one sense : they didn't have permission to take land from the French or the natives. To this day when you see a patriot type advocating for liberty they still understand it as permission for individuals to dominate others free from external interference. So imagine that being your only personal understanding of freedom then being told that pursuing freedom is innately connected to liberating others. I'm getting this micro culture shock from reading black people discuss freedom and realizing that whatever they mean by that is something I have no frame of reference for. They say liberty is one of the hardest words to translate. Almost every culture defines freedom as the freedom from whatever they escaped to form a political identity. So French liberty means the church can't tell you what to do while Iranian liberty may mean nobody is going to take your church away from you. If that's actually how it works, then wouldn't it make perfect sense for the U.S. to have totally separate meanings of freedom existing in the same language? Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

The movie is not Who Cloned Fontain. The Los Angles Tyrone is not a clone of Fontain. Fontain is a clone of the Los Angeles Tyrone. Which leads to these 2 questions. How many other clones of Tyrone did they put in other small towns? How many Tyrone are the Fontains of those towns?
This was a great video. I watched this and thought of Drill Music in Zion. That album talks about concepts such as our dedication to the material, our views on art vs. product, promises to the streets, and of course commentary on drill music. This movie tackles most of these subjects in such a profound way and when we stop to examine what’s REALLY going on. It’s not hard to see that slavery as a concept is still being put into practice.

Im a black woman, and I always try to tell people, understand and lead with compassion. Thats the only way we change and respect each other.

And what else is the teir system. It’s yo-yo, pimp, and Tyrone. Where pinup works under Tyrone and yo-yo under him. It’s the system of patriarchy as well which plays into the cyclic circle of the hood. Absent fathers make single mothers and single mothers that make boys that build themselves stronger than they have the material for and girls that are vulnerable or resenting mothers because of how mothers see their reflection. Yo-yo wasn’t even cared about. There were no clones for her because black women aren’t even valued in the community it’s a very underrated and subtle commentary that rings extremely true in the black community. There’s so much to unpack with her alone I really valued yo-yo in the movie. She was the pillar that held everything together but like the truth of black women her hard work goes without credit just silent acknowledgement. What’s seen is mostly what she can offer not what she can do. She’s smart and observant with so many positive attributes but the cyclic thing of her being used rather than utilized makes her a yo-yo. There’s so much string she had before she had to return to the hand of the owner. I could talk about yo-yo for hours it’s so cool Ooh also the victim of the black man. Such another interesting topic with so much lore

Watched this movie high af with two of my best friends while out on a trip. The slow burn of “holy shit, this is actually an amazing movie” was gradual.. and perfect
duuude me and my family loved this movie... just so colorful and fun but also very thought provoking. (my excitement doubled 10fold when Venom Snake showed up as the villain)

i watched this video a few days ago, but then didnt because i thought "maybe i'm gonna watch the film someday", so today i think "I'm in the emood to watch a movie" and saw this one on my list. went in with like not any expectations really and i just finished watching it and holyyyyy damm was that good!!!!!! idk when i last saw that good of a pacing and plot, that story was interesting and coherent as fuckkk. not even starting with the phenomenal acting and social comentary cinematography and dialouge. a movie if I've ever seen one. kinda mad that it wasnt in the cinema tbh. seeing this with friends, you'd have something to talk about for HOURS. but also ig last year there was a lottt of competition with barbie, oppenheimer and spiderverse too, but still this shouldve been oscar nominated damm

This film is so funny but makes you feel so so much. The social commentary (i think thats the right word) is brilliant. In a Scifi film! A good scifi film. I also want to praise the visuals because they are gorgeous. Overall the choices made throughout this film are so well made and i enjoyed it thoroughly.

Absolutely loved this movie, have to watch it again soon. Just grabs you from the first moment and keeps pulling you further down the rabbit hole. Illustrates so many things I could never put into words.
This movie sounds really deep, had Barheimer never came out, this film would've been the movie of the year. There needs to be a sequel exploring the suburbs side, called "White boi." The sequel could focus on the divide of attitudes between blacks from the suburbs and blacks from the hood, and how, even though they face the same discrimination, they still see themselves as better before they too have to realize that they are cogs in the machine. I used to be one of those types of kids, I'm trying to do better now but sometimes, those attitudes still remain.
I broke down a bit when he went into his mom room. The feeling of caring for a sick/distant parent as a kid and just how much weight that puts on choices. Just wanting to love for a brother and get somewhere only to return to that empty ass room with those chain down life. Seeing community stand up and look out for eachnoter no matter the drama made me so happy, to imagine how much we can do to fight back against the systems when we can target the right people.
I loved this movie so much, so upset it got overshadowed by Barbie and Oppenheimer and by being dumped on Netflix with little to no promotion. It's so good.
I just saw the movie. It is rated 6.6 on IMDB which is shocking. It’s an easy 8/8.1 The whole vibe of the movie was fantastic. The way people speak, wear and function. Jamie Foxx was killer in the movie. The movie truly is an underrated gem.
No kidding - I watched They Cloned Tyrone at least 5 times now. I can not name any other movie released in the past decade that I have rewatched lol. I recommend it to everybody.

The way they killed Tyrone but Jamie Foxxs character recognized he’s supposed to be dead made no sense. That means others (like the guys who shot him) would of seen that too. How do you explain him back from the dead? If the explanation would be he went to the hospital and recovered why does the clone not remember getting shot?
I thought the same thing, and I think I have an answer. It was revealed that the Pimp was also a clone with artificial memories and a pre programmed personality. So it wouldn’t be hard to just mindwipe or replace the pimp. As for the guys who shot Fontaine, they could be easily taken out or just ignored. Who would believe that someone was killed and then magically returned the next day anyway? They also had mind control substances in the food and could manipulate people with music. I I think the elites just may have not cared as they didn’t think the people would have the courage to revolt anyway.
The character Chester, this may be far fetched but in my opinion he is based off noted Detroit hitman Chester Campbell, he was often referred to as the man that wore black

The overwhelming majority of Black churches use grape juice. That's why it's in the movie.

It’s the best film for those who know. It’s black masterpiece and should be studied along with Atlanta. Black Surrealism is having an overdue moment.

This was a great video. I watched this and thought of Drill Music in Zion. That album talks about concepts such as our dedication to the material, our views on art vs. product, promises to the streets, and of course commentary on drill music. This movie tackles most of these subjects in such a profound way and when we stop to examine what’s REALLY going on. It’s not hard to see that slavery as a concept is still being put into practice.

And what else is the teir system. It’s yo-yo, pimp, and Tyrone. Where pinup works under Tyrone and yo-yo under him. It’s the system of patriarchy as well which plays into the cyclic circle of the hood. Absent fathers make single mothers and single mothers that make boys that build themselves stronger than they have the material for and girls that are vulnerable or resenting mothers because of how mothers see their reflection. Yo-yo wasn’t even cared about. There were no clones for her because black women aren’t even valued in the community it’s a very underrated and subtle commentary that rings extremely true in the black community. There’s so much to unpack with her alone I really valued yo-yo in the movie. She was the pillar that held everything together but like the truth of black women her hard work goes without credit just silent acknowledgement. What’s seen is mostly what she can offer not what she can do. She’s smart and observant with so many positive attributes but the cyclic thing of her being used rather than utilized makes her a yo-yo. There’s so much string she had before she had to return to the hand of the owner. I could talk about yo-yo for hours it’s so cool

Watched this movie high af with two of my best friends while out on a trip. The slow burn of “holy shit, this is actually an amazing movie” was gradual.. and perfect
duuude me and my family loved this movie... just so colorful and fun but also very thought provoking. (my excitement doubled 10fold when Venom Snake showed up as the villain)

i watched this video a few days ago, but then didnt because i thought "maybe i'm gonna watch the film someday", so today i think "I'm in the emood to watch a movie" and saw this one on my list. went in with like not any expectations really and i just finished watching it and holyyyyy damm was that good!!!!!! idk when i last saw that good of a pacing and plot, that story was interesting and coherent as fuckkk. not even starting with the phenomenal acting and social comentary cinematography and dialouge. a movie if I've ever seen one. kinda mad that it wasnt in the cinema tbh. seeing this with friends, you'd have something to talk about for HOURS. but also ig last year there was a lottt of competition with barbie, oppenheimer and spiderverse too, but still this shouldve been oscar nominated damm

This film is so funny but makes you feel so so much. The social commentary (i think thats the right word) is brilliant. In a Scifi film! A good scifi film. I also want to praise the visuals because they are gorgeous. Overall the choices made throughout this film are so well made and i enjoyed it thoroughly.

This movie sounds really deep, had Barheimer never came out, this film would've been the movie of the year. There needs to be a sequel exploring the suburbs side, called "White boi." The sequel could focus on the divide of attitudes between blacks from the suburbs and blacks from the hood, and how, even though they face the same discrimination, they still see themselves as better before they too have to realize that they are cogs in the machine. I used to be one of those types of kids, I'm trying to do better now but sometimes, those attitudes still remain.

I broke down a bit when he went into his mom room. The feeling of caring for a sick/distant parent as a kid and just how much weight that puts on choices. Just wanting to love for a brother and get somewhere only to return to that empty ass room with those chain down life. Seeing community stand up and look out for eachnoter no matter the drama made me so happy, to imagine how much we can do to fight back against the systems when we can target the right people.
I loved this movie so much, so upset it got overshadowed by Barbie and Oppenheimer and by being dumped on Netflix with little to no promotion. It's so good.
I just saw the movie. It is rated 6.6 on IMDB which is shocking. It’s an easy 8/8.1
The whole vibe of the movie was fantastic. The way people speak, wear and function. Jamie Foxx was killer in the movie. The movie truly is an underrated gem.

That was a really good film. Great cast. John Boyega really impressed me in this role.
The way they killed Tyrone but Jamie Foxxs character recognized he’s supposed to be dead made no sense. That means others (like the guys who shot him) would of seen that too. How do you explain him back from the dead? If the explanation would be he went to the hospital and recovered why does the clone not remember getting shot?
I thought the same thing, and I think I have an answer. It was revealed that the Pimp was also a clone with artificial memories and a pre programmed personality. So it wouldn’t be hard to just mindwipe or replace the pimp. As for the guys who shot Fontaine, they could be easily taken out or just ignored. Who would believe that someone was killed and then magically returned the next day anyway? They also had mind control substances in the food and could manipulate people with music. I I think the elites just may have not cared as they didn’t think the people would have the courage to revolt anyway.
