      I agree the Demo is great. I've tried many guitar synths and always ended up annoyed with the sounds after playing 5 mins. So i eventually bought an analog synth years ago. However because of that, any guitar synth now sounds like a cheap imitation to me. I never noticed this before I started playing synths. Like a keyboard imitating a guitar just reverse.

    • @FluffyAnvil
      @FluffyAnvil 4 года назад

      @@panicraptor2837 Yes just like guitar on a synth sound like a cheap imitation. Guitar synths are just a silly gimmick imho, if you want to play synth buy a keyboard... its cool an all and a technical achivement to get tracking working well etc, but its just silly what they demonstrate here (and that not to say any thing bad about the guitarist cause he obviously does it flawlessly) but the fact that any mediocre keyboardist can play any of this within a few weeks of practice for a fraction of the cost and with better result.

    I heard one tracking issue 4:37 in that demo, also it would have been better to play without the backing track music so we can get the true feel of the sounds. Playing over background music tends to give people false expectations, it's a marketing technique.

      I have a GR-55 and a much older GR-50 and I'd been thinking something similar, after seeing the SY300, SY1, the Meris Enzo and the Mooer GE300 (3 note synth capability built in) that all use regular guitar pickups. I figured maybe various companies had figured out signal processing enough to not need special pickups any more. It's nice to see the SY1000 can be used with or without the GK pickup.

  • @ShaighJosephson

    Nope... Should have improved upon the direct signal tracking synth technology of the SY-300... Instead, they released the SY-1 with presets created from the SY-300...and released the SY-1000 with MIDI driven PCM combined with the technology of their older pedals... The SY-1000 and SY-1 strike me as quick money generators from existing technology for Boss... I would suggest holding off until the next iteration of improved technology...

    4:35 Would anyone tolerate a keyboard player who plays that badly? The fake make-believe keyboard synth sounds are an embarrassing mess, because the guy is playing a _guitar_ , not a keyboard. It's not too hard for a guitarist to learn to play a keyboard enough to play passable Jump and Final Countdown riffs, but to play them well on this guitar contraption is basically impossible and even this official demonstrator guy can't do it. Use the guitar for doing things that _can_ be played on a guitar!

      @yzimsx 4 года назад +2

      @@jamesbalestrino2670 Yes, it's that weird glissando, but also the note releases which should be immediate and tight, not slow volume ramps like in this video. And the slightly imprecise non-simultaneous timing of chord notes ... the playing sucks. I mean, HELLO BOSS, reality check - nobody would buy a synth keyboard and hire the player if they sounded like this stuff here. Guitars and keyboards are different instruments and different kinds of naturally happening expression. But I guess a lot of the sales come from selling dreams to guitarists. :) I just bought the SY-1 pedal myself, and I love playing weird stuff with it. But since I'm more of a keyboard player, I can't fool myself to believe that the "handicapped guitarist's fake keyboard" stuff is cool.

      @alanredversangel 4 года назад +3

      @@yzimsx You have to forgive the demo guy blasting through that many sounds at once. Also I've done GK synth stuff, some sounds are better than others, some sound better blended with guitar. Some triggered samples are better than direct synthesis. I wouldn't dismiss it all that easily.

    • @yzimsx
      @yzimsx 4 года назад

      @@alanredversangel All credit to the guy for learning that synth riff medley, it was funny and I enjoyed it. But it sounded half-assed. It seems that when guitarists get these synth gizmos, it's like getting drunk, they lose their judgement. I do at least. I have a GR-33 with GK-2A, SY-1, MIDI Guitar 2 and some other guitar-to-synth thingies, and I claim that it's easier for a guitarist to learn to play keyboards than it is to play credible sounding keyboard chord riffs on a guitar based system. The Van Halen Jump stuff here, Final Countdown, all of the organ and piano stuff you hear in anyone's GR synth demos, ... it's just plain pathetic. If you can't press down multiple keys simultaneously, in time, hold them down for as long as you want, and release them at the same time, precisely in time, cutting the sound of all notes immediately and precisely on time, then it just won't work. If you have demos of guitarist playing synth chord riffs and piano parts in a credible way, please post the links. :)

    • @alanredversangel
      @alanredversangel 4 года назад +3

      @@yzimsx I agree it all depends on your standards. Best method is fingerstyle, using sustain pedal or hold function (that function where each string holds a note until you change it is great, i can skank uptown funk's guitar part and the synth holds under it.) Personally I'd sooner using a rotary effect on guitar than put an organ sound with it, it's just easier and more natural. My band plays don't stop me now and it's so much better just with crunchy guitar than synth piano sound.
