The last thing I want is to have them freak out at something and cause trouble or accidentally hurt someone. So I’m trying to get them used to seeing cars , people , and other animals especially dogs. I’m expecting peoples unruly dogs on trail to be my biggest potential problem. Thanks for watching !! See you OUT ON TRAIL!!
Kieryn got a good laugh over Joanna's balance issues!! 🙂 She says "Hi" by the way! Interesting using the goats... might make backpacking more enjoyable if they carry everything. Would you bring food for them in their own packs? Do they eat random stuff in the woods?
A goat of the right size and in good condition can carry more weight than I usually carry in my pack on a summer hike. So technically yes… they could carry everything, but i’ll probably still carry most of my gear. I’ll have them carry most of Jo’s heavier stuff and any luxury items that we might take along. Also will use them to carry in clean water during the summer when water is hard to find. As for food …. They do quite well foraging for themselves on the trail.
Interesting! I’ve always been curious about the concept of using pack animals in the backcountry. Any concerns about ticks and how do you mitigate that? Thanks for sharing, Michael.
With pack animals your limited to the miles that they can do in a day. So… long 20 mile days are out of the question. But hey, I’m getting to the age where long days are not even interesting anymore. As for ticks and such , there are a lot of different topical sprays that can be used to repel biting insects.
Seems like we're all chomping at the bit for summer ☀️. Thanks for sharing 😊
I don’t need summer …. I just need time off work ! 🤣 but yes , I agree warm weather makes a lot of activities more fun!! Thanks for watching!!
Lovely scenery guys, such a lovely hike! 👏
Typical Indiana woodland in the spring. Tree are just now starting to bud .. won’t be long until the leaves are full again. Thanks for watching
How cool is that! 👍👍👍👍
Keep one bag empty for my stuff too! LOL!!!!!
Tell Jonna Opie said “Nice Trip”!
Will be glad to help you carry some gear.
Love the idea of pack goats! Interesting to hear a little bit about how you've been working to get them acclimated
