I painted a piece of wood with this stuff to fix a hole in my fascia. It has been siting there with no paint on in for about a year in the Texas rain and sun and it is still in great shape. Obviously this stuff is supposed to be painted over, but since I am replacing all the fascia soon*, I never painted it and it is not breaking down at all. i am very impressed.
Just used almost 2 gallons in my duplex with major tobacco smoke damage. The tobacco smell is already gone! Plus it made my ceiling white again, it was yellow with cobwebs lol.
you used kilz 2 and it covered the smell? I've only heard that kilz restoration would work (which is twice as expensive). If so, maybe I'll just scrub the walls a bit and prime with kilz 2 instead
ок mister, but if on oak stairs was spirit stain with lack applied 40 years ago , I was put 2 cout Flugger interior finish paint , stain comes out, I putt 2 coat Bull yeys 1-2-3 , and after again 2 coats of Flugger interior high finish and staine still comes out , not so match, but still. Mabe need to wait 2 weeks an I have still paint fir 1 coat. But not sure it's helps 😕
Can I get away with applying this to new drywall in my bathroom? Using Gardz for other applications. Its not that much more than the drywall/pva version of killz and I have it already. With proper ventilation can it be that big of a deal to use as a primer for new drywall in a bathroom?
What would be your best recommendation for a sealer to be used on T1-11 plywood siding to be put on a shed? Something that's rated for both interior and exterior seems like it's a compromise, and likely not the best for either one individually. I need to seal up the T1-11 good before painting it.
Anyone know about "artillery mold/spores. Need to paint outside entry door off deck (back of house) Hardware store to meet that Kilz will not get rid of it??
I just skim coated my walls and ceiling with All Purpose mud. What's the best SEALER and Primer for this? I need something with very good adhesion and crack/peel resistant. Thanks!
I was removing old panels in my bathroom that were installed using construction adhesive. The adhesive shredded the drywall paper when pulled from the wall. I need to repair the wall before moving forward. Because it's a bathroom I was going to use a product Roman primer sealer, but found kilz2 at Walmart. Will kilzs 2 be sufficient to seal the drywall before I install a new panel board. Please respond. Thanks
What would you recommend using in a garage that marijuana is being grown and so there’s all types of moisture I put three coats on everything in the garage I’m thinking I did it wrong?
I would replace all drywall if you’re concern. I personally would like to see what’s behind it in the event mold, chemical or other things was hidden. You be surprised. Also hire a professional electrician to inspect.
YES it will show through. Clearly this is a paid review or free product for the company, because he isn’t answering any questions that actually matter about the product.
Yes, Kilz Original is oil based, Kilz2 is water based. Kilz Original has a much higher VOC content and requires cleanup with paint thinner. Kilz does seal better than Kilz 2 though.
Shellac will cover everything; if I can afford Zinsser BIN would you say that's the better product for overall priming inside? What about outside? It says for spot priming, but if I want to do the entire exterior would it be better than any other primer if cost isn't the issue?
Zinsser BIN is a great primer, but it is a high VOC product at 550g/l. Kilz 2 has a much lower VOC content at 50g/l. If cost is no issue, then there are quite a few exterior primers that i would personally go with over Kilz 2. Sherwin Williams has Extreme Bond and Exterior Latex Wood Primer. Benjamin Moore has Fresh Start Exterior. Behr has Bonding Primer. If you have any peeling or paint failure issues, then Sherwin Williams Prime RX or Zinsser Peel Bond would be great.
John Feather; If you have a Home Depot get the Valspar brand…It will say PVA PRIMER in bold letters on the paint can. If they don’t have it look for KILZ brand PVA Lowe’s and some Walmarts carry-Just make sure it says PVA on the front of the can as KILZ varieties look similar. Hope this helps… These are $14-$15/gal.
Typically you don't need two coats (but you might). Usually you can still see through the primer, and that's not an issue. The primer seals, your tops coats cover.
We’ve had some unopened Kilz 2 in the garage for many many years. It seems to be ok but not sure if we should risk using it on the exterior soffits and window trim? Thoughts?
Yeah you can put anything you'd like over lead paint. But the only thing that will change the leads chemical compound is LBC (lead block compound) stuff is used by lead abatement companies in massachusetts.

Waste of time. You painted the walls dark grey, now do the video and paint the walls a light color like almost every house in the world. You'll have to do several coats

Did your smoke yellow cover with just one coat?

What about PVA Primer? Isn't that used for new drywall or is killz 2 good to use on new drywall?
@@jsully4074 I used Roman pro999, rx-35 it worked perfectly.
It created a new surface
Would this work if trying to cover a patched nail hole before applying a coat of Benjamin Moore Regal Select? Thanks.
Perfectly.

YES it will show through. Clearly this is a paid review or free product for the company, because he isn’t answering any questions that actually matter about the product.
Can Kilz 2 be used over semi gloss paint and repainted with flat paint?
What's the difference between the regular Kilz, and the Kilz 2?
Regular kilz is oil base, 2 is water base. The oil is my preferred but harder to clean up your brushes and rollers, and it stinks a little bit.
Yes, Kilz Original is oil based, Kilz2 is water based. Kilz Original has a much higher VOC content and requires cleanup with paint thinner. Kilz does seal better than Kilz 2 though.
@@diypainting, thanks for the reply! We decided to use regular Kilz, for the high coverage.

what primer would you recommend for bathroom ceiling above the shower
Kilz Mold and Mildew
What about fresh drywall? Could this work or should I use? Thanks
John feather,
You want to use a PVA primer for dry wall due to the hair fibers and mud patches. You will also use less paint in the long run.
@@tinaknutsen Any particular brand or which one would you recommend? Thank you so much

Do you thin KILZ2 before spraying or power rolling? If so, by how much? Thanks.
says no more than 10%. you don't need to thin it though.
How about stair rails? Going black over white. Anyone?

If it looks good, smells good, and isn't chunky (it mixes up nice and smooth), I'd still use it.
Can I use this on wood paneling
Yep
what about water damage stains?
Oil based primer for water stains or it will eventually show through.
Can I use on. My deck
theoretically Behr Ultra in White should cover just as well as that color, right?
No it's not a primer made for stains
@@RealMTBAddict I think they meant on top of the primer instead of the grey Behr Ultra shown in the video.
@@krob7955 no, they asked if Behr ultra white covered like Kilz. Read...
Excellent review and presentation!
Can we use it for cinder walls?
As long as they are clean.
How do you dilute it for a paint sprayer?
It's water based you can use water to dilute it

body oil all over wall? Should see a dr for that
Excelente material
Do you feel like this primer helps fill in/cover up old texture on walls? Even in the slightest?
No. Paint doesn't help fill/cover texture. If you want to do that, i'd thin down some plus 3 drywall mud and do a light skim coat.
No
Just remember. Never use water base primers on rust or water stains it never works. Always go oil for that

Worst primer I've ever used yes it is cheaper than other primers I would go with zinsser 123
anyone ever use it as a paint?

Absolutely. Kilz 2 is super cheap and a good swiss army knife primer and is great for many DIY projects, but not a super high end product.
