I have slowed down the video at a few moments I thought were cool (either because certain creatures developed or because the stats were a bit crazy). These are bookmarked as the start of chapters, so feel free to jump around (though just watching the whole video tells the youtube algorithm nice things :D). If you see any interesting bits I missed, or have questions about how the simulation works, let me know in the comments!
Something to keep in mind is that calories needed to survive tends to scale exponentially with size. A creature of size one may need one '1' unit to survive, where a creature of size two may require '3' or even '4' units to survive. If it scales linearly (if at all) in this simulation, that is likely why giants reign in the end. Also, higher metabolisms tend to happen in species with faster movement and larger roaming tendencies. If you made movespeed a variable that can be mutated, you may see more stable variations. For instance, you may see small but fast herbivores with high reproduction, quicker but larger carnivores with much lower rates of reproduction, large but slow herbivores that survive more on size than anything else, ect. You will likely see less biodiversity, but more stability in the existing species. It may be too hard to do, but you may also want to consider making the environment change with time. For example, what if node varied on starting food quality and quantity? Say, a lush node could have 100 units of food, and could provide up to 3 units in one visit but only regrew one unit every 1/10 rounds. It would degrade from dark green to light green at 60 units remaining, and only provide 2 units on visit and regain one every 1/15 rounds. Then, at 20, it becomes yellow-green and provides one per visit, and only regains one unit every 1/20 rounds. At 0, it becomes barren. Everytime a death happens, thru predation or age, surrounding units all gain 5 units of food. You could play around with those numbers, but that is where I would start with were I able to program something like this. This is great content by the way, and very interesting to watch.
I think predations only works for preys smaller is making predator less likely to evolve, i think of a way around this is giving predator more ability, for example pack hunting, where preys can be killed by predators having more population. Similar to the evolution board game
It’s an interesting concept. I am working on a new video atm with some updates to the predation system. Not teamwork yet, but stealth and perception and changing the overall mechanics so that specialising in predation means a creature can take down prey that is larger. That said, predators are quite rare IRL (how often do you see deer or rabbits compared to bears or badgers?)
Predators in general can also pretty unanimously take on animals slightly above their own weight class anyways. Bears can kill moose, wolverine can kill elk, etc. That's why many herbivores have evolved defensive measures instead of always just going for raw bulk. Obviously raw bulk worked for a very, very select few animals. Sauropods with dinosaurs and basically any remaining megafauna in africa.
This is definitely something I want to pursue. At the moment I am adding a stats and functionality to each tile (decomposers, insect populations, different plant types, souls nutrients, etc.) and animal waste. This will be a few of steps away from what you are suggesting, but hopefully should support it later on!
I think this is cool but it's really hard to track population trends, what if there was a graph in the background or something just to provide a little context? (about eating habits and traits?)
Wow, these videos are very interesting. If this is only the beginning of this project, I can’t wait to see how it will develop in the future. I hope you’ll enjoy doing this 😎✌🏻 By the way, why did you start this project? From the shorts on your channel, it seems that you have an interest for animals, but from where did this idea of a simulation of evolution come from?
Yeah this is still pretty early in the project! I’ve just always though the evolution simulators around RUclips are cool. I also like animals, and wanted to develop my own game, so thought I’d mash all those things together and here we are 😅.
You should do a discord and start a community. I believe you are on to something good. You are the first that do evolutionary test to use that type of tiles, that creates more results, faster since their choice is always 6 different one. I would love to run these simulations as well, it looks so fun to watch.
@@josieteckart ha I’ll think about discord. The issue is that I have a regular old job and responsibilities so I basically wouldn’t be available. Reddit might be easier? I’ll definitely make it playable at some point. Just want to get a working base version done and then can do some UI and stuff. All in good time!
Discord is very easy, it is like a forum, that include live messenger. It is very easy to make. I could show you if you want. The structure is quite intuitive. You start small and you'll create a community and guess that I will be there :)
What do the rabbits and bison and tigers mean i understan the bears from the previous videos The rabbits never seemed to flourish and stayed in their own small groups The bears were cannibals and just evolved off of each other the were their own down fall an ancient species from the dawn of time just massive remnants only able to survive on each other or decimate populations of smaller creatures to satisfy a small meal it dwarfs a mountain your entire land in its shadow it reaches down long ago it would of eaten all the green for as far as the eyes could see but now they just eat us nothing can escape their teeth the white giants the sun blinds you as it reflects off its fur none can escape
Wow that went a place I wasn’t expecting 😄. My most recent video has an explanation of the animals in it but in summary they are basically avatars with set stats, and the creatures pick the avatar which has the closest stats to them.
@@EightLittleBears have you thought about making some biome specific traits to make some species more reliant on specific Temps and precipitation It could help with making more bio diversity in its own biomes and one species not appearing and wiping out the entire world ecosystem just theirs Would also be cool watching them evolve to be more compatible with other areas

The evolution board game is criminally underrated
@@davidboswell36 yeah. Not enough of gameplay on RUclips

YEAH
Would be possible to update the environmenrmt each round?
Maybe globally adjust temperature for seasons. Have herbivores cause dessertificaction etc?

I find it interesting how if you focus on the pink area near the bottom, almost everything that goes into it dies. Is that a barren zone with no food?
Yeah the pink zone is desert, which isn’t completely barren but it’s pretty close!
Iirc in the past im pretty sure already subscribe this kimd of content, is new channel?
There are other evolution simulators put there, but I started this channel (my first) in May.
Underrated af
Thanks!
what was this made using?
Most of it was built using the Unity Game Engine and C#, and the art was all done in Procreate.
This is awesome. You have a new subscriber
Thanks! ❤️

i wanna have somthing like this but with digimon xD
