    I couldn’t pick Bonanno in that poll, because he was never a real “Boss” in Tucson. He was a deposed NY boss in exile, who continued to claim he was the legitimate boss of the Bonanno Family (which was not recognised), not the Boss of a Tucson Family. You can’t compare that to the likes of Trafficante or Marcelo in the Sun Belt.

    Trafficante and Marcello are two nobodies compared to Bonanno. His life in the Mafia is an epic story. The other two were boring as hell. The admiration shown to Trafficante in the Donnie Brasco film is silly. The "Sun Belt" Mafia Families are boring, unless you are excited and fascinated with routine business deals and the like. Bonanno TOWERS over these guys. Even in exile in Arizona his life continued to be interesting. I think of Dallas, New Orleans and Tampa and take a nap. The books and documentaries on Marcello and Trafficante are boring. It is impossible to read or watch them from start to finish.

    I would love to see something on the LA Family. And I hate that “Mickey Mouse Mafia” phrase. It’s some History Channel bullshit. They were rightly feared and respected. It would be interesting to break down their relations with NY though, and what Bugsy Siegel was doing there. To what extent could he claim rackets on behalf of NY given there was a recognised Family on the territory? I refuse to believe the NY bosses would allow even a most respected non-member to strike, or even heavily disrespect, a recognised Cosa Nostra boss. That is ridiculous. But how did it work?

    Any chance you could still write the book on old man Zerilli despite him no longer being with us?
    I’m sure with you having a relationship in that point of his life(I’m sure he was a chatty senior citizen) that you would have a ton of great information that he shared.
    I mean the guys Father was a Founding Father of US LCN, he married into the Profaci/Columbo Family and Tony Z was one of the first ‘Made guy’ to be operating in Vegas! Tons and Tons of fascinating stuff!

      I can't speak for Scott, but my understanding is some members of the family are opposed to the book coming out. That did not matter when Tony Z was alive. Things are more complicated now. But only Scott knows for sure. He's not big social media guy, but I'll try to get him to jump in here.

    On the FBI chart from the Valachi Hearings in 1963, Dallas is listed as a recognised Family under Joseph Civella. They could have got it wrong, but that’s unlikely. I think Dallas was an official family back in the day.

    • @BostonsF1nest
      @BostonsF1nest 2 года назад +3

      Dallas was a family for a handful of decades- they were founded in the teens and were most prominent under Civello. In my opinion and what I’ve read Civello ran that family independently from 1956 to when he died in 1970. After which it wouldn’t be unlikely to assume that Carlos Marcello took over after that and ran Dallas as a satellite branch of his own organization- with an acting administration in place to operate their local rackets and whatever assistance Marcello needed in New Orleans.

    I’ve always been fascinated with the mob. I worked in the pharmacy with a pharmacist my dads age in central Illinois who is a completely legitimate guy named Tocco from Detroit. He’s in his 70s now but his grandfather or uncle was Jack and his cousin is Nove Tocco. He’s a really funny guy we used to prank people and I’d cook him sausage and peppers as I went to culinary school before pharmacy. He actually showed me the Rinaldi fennel sausage from Detroit which I have used ever since. Also, have you guys ever done anything on the Rockford IL mob? From what I understand the Zammutos were always rock solid and a big part of the Pizza connection heroin ring. I heard there was an influx of young Sicilians in the 60s and 70s that could have sustained the family for some time after. I got interested in them after learning about Tony Musso when I went to school in Madison Wi. I believe Madison had the smallest LCN family in the states and Peter Caputo ran it. His name is still on lots of buildings in downtown Madison which was interesting to me. Anyway great show sorry for the rambling comment

    But here’s the thing Scott, Daz probably wasn’t kicking up to Mancuso. Like you said, he may have been with Basciano but maybe Mancuso didn’t trust or care about Daz so what’s the point if he is not kicking tribute? Regardless of what he did in the past that was with the old boss..if he was paying tribute then yeah he should have been protected by again, it was his son.

    What does it say about the Bonannos if they had to pick an imprisoned member as the boss of the family. 😂 it’s really unbelievable.

    • @BostonsF1nest
      @BostonsF1nest 2 года назад +4

      In my opinion- it’s almost best nowadays to have a boss already in prison. Takes a lot of heat off the family and allows whatever acting administration they have in place to run the family in the meantime. Federal prosecutors like big headlines to push their careers along up the ladder. Only way to achieve big headlines is with big arrests. The biggest arrest you can make is a boss of a crime family. If that person is already in jail it’s not as enticing for the government to go after them and everyone under them.

    Great podcast, but i disagree with what you said about New Orleans having 50 members in the 60’s. By 1969, Joe Colombo said that they only had 5 members left. The FBI had a list of 20 suspected members, so I doubt that they got all those right let alone don’t know 30 people.
