      @@akadkins69Absolutely , Nothing against Matt, He's a great drummer and brought a new exciting sound to GnR ,But NOTHING beats the raw rock n roll sound of Appetite for Destruction . Duff and Steven were one , I miss Jeff too ,wasn't the same without Izzy .
      Takes one hell of a front man to be able to replace a whole band around himself and make it work and Axl has been that frontman , Every member throughout GnR history has been successful since their respective departure , Velvet Revolver is a treasure to the genre , Just in time before we lost Scott , Slash can play with anyone ,any time ,He's so humble and thankful for his success and for his fans . Steven use to have a smile from ear to ear in every video and any time you saw him live , Happy to be alive and playing drums in the greatest rock band on earth, at the time i.m.o. He lost his way , wish he could have found the path back to his band and avoided the things that caused his stroke , He still plays pretty well though . Use your illusion one and two belong to Matt as far as the drums go , He is to UYI what Steven is to A .F .D .
      Chinese Democracy was a whole other thing and absolutely awesome in its own right , Takes me back to a very wild time in my life , nostalgic , although it was a dark spell , The album saw me through it , It was the soundtrack to my spiral down hill yet a positive aspect of it , It takes me back to the best parts of that time frame , I was a teenager when Appetite and Lies Lies Lies came out BEST TIME IN MY LIFE ! 14 ,15 years old , 86 87 88 , three of the best years in music i.m.o. My generation caught the best of everything in music . Been a wild time, late 60s residue when I was a tot , saw what we now call classic rock ,The British invasion, Elton John , The Beatles , to disco ,The Bee Gees , punk,Sex pistols ,Misfits , funk, Motown , Thriller. Purple Rain , Pop , RnB , glam , hair bands , heavy metal , power ballads , Metallica ,Seattle Grunge , Nirvana , Sound Garden , Rap , Hip Hop , Limp Biscuit , Rage against machine , Alice n chains , You tube sensations , independent artists , Jelly Roll , Rap battles , freestyle , MTV , Vh1 , Soul Train , Head bangers ball , The outlaw hours (where im from ) 103 K.D.F. Nashville's Rock n Roll station back in the day , The best several decades of country music , Country / Rock crossovers , Hank Jrs entire influence on country music , The Eagles , Bernie Taupin , Daryl Hall , Paul Simon , Lou Reed , Styx , Clapton , Dolly , Loretta , Heart , Lita,, Janis. Joplin , Aretha , Doobie bros , The list goes on and on , Cant skip Ozzy , Kiss, Tesla , Never will happen like that again.

    Met him at the meet and greet, at the last Velvet Revolver show in Amsterdam. One of the great groovers, with a massive sound and don't forget his background vocals! For me he is THE drummer for the Cult. When he does his groove on "She sells sanctuary" ,they sound so much better. Huge fan. I know so much more about him, after this pod cast. Well done guys!

    For me, Matt plays energetically, he takes it more seriously when he plays drum than Steven. 😁
    For a new drummer who is joining Gun's N Roses, it's not easy to learn and show their song.
    Only Matt and Bryan Mantia are capable of filling this position.
    Even Slash never plays the original solo of their song, but the key is the drummer.

  • @dcrespol

    If I had the opportunity to talk to Matt, I would ask him where did he get the inspirarion for the drum fills of a few of my favorite songs. I would also let him know that his drumming is beautiful because he creatively comes up with nice grooves and executes them consistently throughout the song, not like other drummers like Ulrich that plays differently every single time. Matt’s drumming is my inspiration, and my drumming is pretty much thanks to him.

    My band The Passenger used to play Slither. We played in the club TJ’s in Newport (Wales, UK) one time in 2006/7 maybe. The band on before us didn’t sound like us or VR for that matter but they played Slither. It was great how that record hit us all and how that band was very modern and not a GnR throwback. Good times.

    Matt really played his role well. He never tried to replace Adler,he never rubbed it in his face in magazines or interviews. He brought his own flavor and emotion to guns and tbh that came off more Aerosmith because of it. He had that tight,low drum tone feel. Obviously adler was loose and poppy and thats why we love him but matt did great

    Mostly half of the songs on the Illusion abums are or Izzy’s or “co-written” by him. 6 songs are 100% Izzy’s, Dust N’ Bones, You Ain’t the First, Bad Obsession, Double Talkin’ Jive, 14 Years and Pretty Tied Up, he appears as if he had co-written two of this songs (Dust N’ Bones and 14 Years) only because other members contributed with some minor things to them. 3 songs are a collaboration between Izzy and Axl, been Right Next Door to Hell mostly Axl’s and Don’t Cry, and You Could Be Mine mostly Izzy’s. 1 song (Perfect Crime) was a collab between those two but with some Slash’ input and finally Izzy had some minor input on Bad Apples. This adds up to a total of 12 songs of 30 because Don’t Cry appears twice. For the other songs, 8 where 100% Axl’s, 7 a collab between Axl and Slash, 2 covers and 1 from Duff’s, so Matt isn’ wrong in this video.

    After Guns n Roses, Matt rejoined The Cult and recorded BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL, an entire album of new music before starting Velvet Revolver. It would've been cool to ask Matt...
    "When you joined Guns n Roses, were Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy disappointed because maybe they wanted you to join their band? And also, what's the story behind you rejoining The Cult after Guns and were they disappointed when you decided to do the Velvet Revolver project and go in that direction and leave The Cult once again?"

    • @LunsJail
      @LunsJail 11 месяцев назад +1

      This is all in his book: 1. Ian and Billy were happy for Matt when he joined GNR. He was joining the biggest band in the world at the time. 2. I believe the Cult broke up for awhile after that Beyond Good and Evil record. Matt didn’t just quit again.
