Under the Bridge-An Interview with a Homeless Man in Edmonton

- Meet Lawrence Brown. I met him while I was taking photos under a bridge on Jasper Ave, near 82 St. Lawrence asked me if I was with National Geographic (not quite), then offered to show me his tent. I made this because I wanted to not only raise awareness about homelessness in Edmonton, but put a face to it. Nothing that hasn't been done before, but this is my own contribution.
The comments are very depressing blaming this man. I hope he gets help and a warm place.
Come to think of it. I was living up in Clairview up on Manning Drive at the same time you took this video. Check out 'Hope for the homeless.' On RUclips....shortly after I benefited from the Rapid Exit Program offered by the Hope Mission. You should tell others about this program offered through Homeward Trust in Edmonton. They put me in a beautiful place of my own that year in the spring.
Congrats on your contribution to raise awareness of the homeless in Edmonton. Is there any hope? Will things change? Its all about the cube, ceiling flooring and 2 side walls.
Interesting video Jerry. Good job.
HE HAS A NICE SMILE!!!!!
Sleep with one eye open and ears up! Because the hunter becomes the hunted at night in these woods
Creepy thing to say but ok
I remember finding everything I needed out there in the garbage, my tent, my clothes my blankets my food and my empties! Survival to the max! Summertime you defeat the mosquitoes and winter, the cold.
Anyone who can survive a single night homeless during an Edmonton winter is a tough individual. You're a survivor, Justin.
Yeah I know....it was rough, but I managed it....I can relate to this guy in this video, in fact I think I've seen him around in Edmonton at the community centers that serve food to the public. Hope Mission, Boyle Street, Mustard Seed, and Living for Jesus.
Hope you're doing better now.
I Am...thank you. Here in Collingwood...Working and living in a nice warm home!
+justin keeling It is SAD I know What you are Talking About been there Done that .Keep up the Job ! It is the way Out.
Freaky stuff happens at night in the woods in Edmonton like really freaky I’ve lived in those woods in tents just like this young man and some stuff scared the shit out of me
Can you say what scared you?
Really? What kind of stuff. I am interested in the paranormal. I like to walk around these woods during the day time in the summer but I wouldn't venture out there at night time .Please tell us what you saw , heard or sensed otherwise in those woods I love so much.
I saw cops arresting an old homeless man with a neck brace on for drinking beer on a park bench near the edmonton river valley. I know public drinking not in a pub or bar is illegal but it seemed like a waste, to put handcuffs on a quiet old man with a neck brace.
That's the kind of person I'd wanna hand a beer and ask their life story.
In view of some of the comments previously on here....I can say that for an absolute homeless person (that's one who doesn't use resources available like shelters, soup kitchens, drop in centers, Government assistance programs, etc. ) it is not quite that simple to just pick it up and get off of the lifestyle. You see it is something inside the individual who suffers some kind of need, but doesn't feel any desire to persue it. This person is actually content within him/herself for the things out of the world presented. This internal satisfaction is almost always accompanied with an addiction (drugs and alcohol) So that the individual doesn't have to think about the living situation he/she is living in. I know this because I've been out there with them and have seen that in everyone I've met on the street. That they have had some kind of trauma in their lives, some kind of deep hurt that they are protecting within themselves. A key to a dark closet that NO ONE will take.
+justin keeling Right on the Money.
Glad things are better for you now. In 1991 I moved to Calgary & Ended up on the street from 1991 - 1999 ( ROUGH Time )But made it out & Back to Edmonton Same Job last 17 years ! & 4 RUclips Channels with 70 Thousand Views so far- Life is better .
+WARPAINT GAMER { Canadian } You said you found the tent bottle picking? I also found my tent bottle picking as well bin Edmonton up in Belvedere region. I hope this guy is doing well. I hope he tries to get a home someday I know it mustn’t be easy and not simple to just get out of this situation, but I hope and pray he can find a way out and live more comfortably. I don’t blame him for leaving hobema I’ve heard it’s not a nice place.
check this video .. regulators vol 1 part 3 .. he better homeless in Edmonton!
Well... he better in the wood than when he was a (member gang) for 11 years in Hobbema! ...video from you tube ( regulators vol 1 part 3 ) he look young but he 33 years old (2010)
