The mom has been through ALOT of hardship and kept her family together and provided them a life. Jingling adjusting to a New Zealand cultural, still perfecting her English, caring for all her children, running a child care business within her home and trying to learn sign to better communicate with her deaf son. She is amazing idk how she keeps it together
Thanks for watching 😃
They migrated to Australia not New Zealand
Moms are the strongest souls on the planet
it's so sad because you can tell he really loves him mom
Thanks for watching Janelle! Hope you enjoyed this story
14! He looks a lot older😮 what a story❤️
Thanks for watching Isabelle!
Genes play a big role in body structure
Smitty it’s the muscles😎😎😎
@@_blank-_ is there a way to check his age when he goes to the Olympics 🤔
True ey.
Don't say in Africa, be specific. We have sign language in Namibia, with special schools and they do sport. It's bad when people generalise Africa instead of talking of a specific countries.
I agree. I should probably go over the different countries in the African continent again. Also, Australian Sign Language seems REALLY cool! I’m learning American Sign Language at my high school but it really looks cool to see other places with sign language. I really want to learn as many different types of sign language as possible.
Just a correction that "Living in Liberia is difficult" not in "Africa". We have many peaceful countries with many brilliant facilities for different needs.
Ruvimbo Katsidzira right💕
True just like here in South Africa.
exactly.
his views on “Africa” are….troubling to say the least. but he’s young. well, he was at the time. LOL hopefully he’s learned more since then.
I got so happy in the end when his mother started taking sign classes 💕
Thanks for watching Anna!Hope you enjoyed our channel!
He can dance. I like that the mum is making an effort to be able to communicate with her son. African is not a language (many languages are spoken in the continent Africa), I do really love this episode it is really inspiring.
African is indeed a language. It was the maternal tongue of one of my Ex-Girlfriend. You are right that many languages are spoken on the continent, and African is one of them.
@@OveeProduction not african, afrikaans which is spoken in south africa i believe
OveeProduction There is no such thing as "African language its Afrikaans" 😩 instead Swahili is a language spoken by most African countries
@@OveeProduction African is not a language but Afrikaan is.
i was just coming to the comments to say that. 😂 African is not a language + i don’t think they’re from South Africa so i don’t think they meant Afrikaans either. so…. i’m real confused. LOL still no idea what his family’s native language//mother tongue is.
Oh.. that mother should make the effort to learn sign. Especially after watching this, seeing him open up about how much it hurts him, not being able to communicate easily
Thanks for watching Molly! Hope you enjoyed!
Molly BV ...HIS mother is learning to sign...did u not see that part?
I hope she does. She sounds so tired, though, I feel bad for her. She survived a war and got her children safely out, found a good place for them to live, and got him into a great school for him so at least HE could learn sign well. And after so many years she still seems to find english hard - some people find languages difficult. But OTOH she is clearly a strong person and if she keeps at it she can learn. He won't care if her sign isn't perfect as long as they can understand each other. Maybe they should start a traditional of writing letters to each other?
I watched the whole thing, she just said that she wanted to learn it? She didn't say anything about being in the process of learning sign.
She can't read or write unfortunately, that's why it's so difficult for her to learn I guess.
what an inspirational story. this young man is a champion.
Thanks for watching Shapi27!

he looks so much older than 14!!
Oh this video was 5 years ago, mom learned sign language but continue teach Sekou's sibling. It will be the best communication each other.
Now five years passed and wanted to know what is the update for mom's learned sign language or Sekou's siblings?
I am so curious what happened to Sekou's father?
She blames her son for being deaf and that she chooses not to learn to communicate by signing - she has an option which is to learn to sign, he has no other option but to sign - the mother I found really upsetting
Watt an amazing story about this 14 years old boy very powerful story she should go to sing languages classes so she can sing to her son
Thanks for all your support Rebecca
He reminds me of my brother when I watch this. I only pray good things for him
Amazing that is so raw. Thanks for sharing your story ❤️

more of this story
To his mother: Learn to Sign!
Wow I'm Liberian
Ran for his life now he's running to change his life that's great sucks he lost his pops though
Was very sad what happened to your father but I like your story right now can you do a part two of it please please say
For anyone watching this “African” is not a language. Afrikaans is a language although I don’t think that’s the language they’re referring to. Because of the fact that he’s deaf and isn’t used to spoken language, I think he just groups all 521 recognized languages in Africa together.
I think Sekou refers to her family's native language with sign combination "Africa + language" as there's most likely no exact sign for the language (Kpelle? maybe) in AusLan.
And then the subtitler just translated it to "African" 🤷🏼♂️
Update please!!!
We have sign language in Africa, I’m from South Africa and its one of our official languages!
How about facilitating hearing aids for him. It is very challenging to try and make a new life in your adopted country- speaking from personal experience. I do sincerely hope things work out for them..
Sign language is probably better. The communication is much more accurate that speaking with hearing aids
So cool that there all sign
Wow I IOVLYOU GOOd ชอบขอรัก
14????????? Amazing story
Thanks for watching lifeofsoph , hope you enjoyed!
i knowww him
Thanks for watching The Strikeforce, hope you enjoyed!
Well look at the bright side... No one can distract him really
Thank you for watching GoodGuy1738, hope you enjoyed!
For the viewers there is no language called "African". Sekou says his family speaks an African language at home, a language most likely only spoken in Liberia.
It's interesting that they chose a person with an african accent to do the voice-over for him... He immigrated when he was five, didn't he? So if he was hearing and had learned english when he was five he wouldn't have an accent any different from his classmates.
junbh2 he would still most likely have an african accent because you pick up what is most used at home. it would just be a little more watered down like his sisters.
+Fabeah Boateng I've never found that at all, personally. I don't know anyone who has their parents' accent if they went to school and played with kids. And about a quarter of my class in school had parents born elsewhere.
That is incorrect.
@@fabeahboateng2282 disagree, totally disagree. And I am speaking from what I have observed in real life.
ilike your story am deaf in school but only I deaf
"In Africa they don't sign" - that is a lie...Maybe the part his family was from but definitely not South Africa, Sign Language is used here in the Deaf Communities...
In Kenya as well.
@@kap849 is It KSL right
@@deafsomali I honestly don't know 😭. But I know the Japanese one is JSL, I studied a little bit of it.
@@kap849 JSL? Wow thats dope. Ik ASL (american sign language) cuz I’m deaf myself too lol
My deaf 400m
Where this from the country?
Australia
14?!Sorry he looks way older...
Yeah sad he mom and sister should learn sing language
Thank you
African is not a language but I think being deaf it's difficult for him to say the actual word as most african languages have difficult pronounciations!
He’s 14 he looks 18
There is literally no language called 'African'. In addition, Africa is a whole continent of over 50 countries, they should be more specific. He was 5 when he left, how would he have known about all this treatment of disabled people back in his country Liberia?
I don't like this episode. Disappointed in Attitude
His mother was the main one who commented on the treatment on disabled people from back home. I took his comments as more of "speculation"...?
I agree, I'm really disappointed in this episode. You spent all that time with him and his family and yet could not specify the language they spoke.
Also to say that if he stayed in Africa he couldn't have learnt how to sign?
Maybe he heard from other people and got some second hand sources. Since he obviously hated his home country, it’s no surprise that he said some horrible things about it.
1. Why does he have an accent?
2. What is African?
lol
Just S it’s not him talking it’s an interpreter and he’s probably using the sign for African rather than spelling out the specific language as there mightn’t be a sign for that
😒Africa is a continent not a country 🙄 next time be specific there is no such thing as "speaking African"
African is not a language menhhh
Let's get that straight and there are lots of African countries with sign language(s) they teach at special schools. It's the 21st century!
i think he meant afrikaans?
