For me the solution was getting a cellular apple watch. No social media, but I can stay in contact with my friends and family if I need it. I still can use my calendar, maps and music and the battery is good enough for one day of use.
I have a light phone 2, personally love mine. The fact the company continues to update the phones software and add more things as time goes. Not having to worry about it becoming left behind due to the 'latest' device being pumped out every 1-2 years.
The part about using your browser for stuff after deleting apps was too relatable 😂. Then after you watch crappy quality RUclips videos for a while in your browser, you end up downloading the app again. Then you repeat the cycle every couple of months.
Not me, I'm a hybrid. I own a smartphone but only because it is required to do banking in any sort of convenience. I cannot be called or call though. I'm reachable by Telegram or email, so not by random people. But it is an issue with some gubmint stuff and my mom tries to call me at times when she forgets I don't do phone. Then she writes me an email or telegram message to let me know my phone number doesn't work. Yep mom. I know.
I currently have a light phone 2 and I switch back and forth between it and my iphone. I find it hard to go full time with the light phone even though thats what I would like to do. I like going against the grain, I have always just been that way. I also like getting off of the digital grid and not having the social media and google tracking everywhere I go and everything I do. I use cash a lot for those same reasons, call me old fashioned I guess. The hard part for me is I feel that having a family and a child make it difficult. I get scared that the service won't always be reliable and I will miss an important call or text. How do people with families and kids feel about using the light phone? How about using it as their daily driver, not using another phone? I do like that I don't have to check email and stuff and it hasn't affected anything, I respond when I get to my computer.
This phone is a good idea. What worked for me was only using an Apple Watch with cellular. It does everything I need but makes it so I don’t use it when I’m bored bc it’s not a fun experience.
well, since dumb phone is the opposite of smart phone (aka, having computer features on a phone that is just supposed to be calls and texts), this is by definition, a dumb phone. yes it's minimalist, but it's also not a smart phone due to the lacking of smart phone features. meaning yes it's minimalist, but it is indeed also dumb.
i would like to know if that there's some dumb phone with maps and a transportation app like uber cause i think that's kinda hard dont have this nowadays to travel to another city for exemplo
same problem this addiction really consuming huge hours from my day ,in normal day i spend like 8 hours on my phone , this became a huge problem but i think this will be the optimal solution for this .
i know you don't like t9 keyboard but seeing the struggle I think you might be better off with feature phone of Nokia having wifi, Bluetooth and gps connectivity. Right?
They really should have just made a normal sized phone. Everything else makes sense bar the size. My hands are too big for the phone im certain of that. I have a Note 8 and im always pressing the wrong keys
Why would someone buy a "premium minimalistic" phone.. That doesn't exist lol. Could've just bought an old phone and not try to join this weird trend. Paying $300 for a $10 phone is just insanity for me.
As someone who has reviewed plenty of dumbphones, most of those $10 phones end up failing in one area or are frustrating to use. There are definitely alternatives cheaper to the Light Phone 2, but the days of cheap phones are long gone tbh. Also, remember that in the US, we have to use 4G devices and that makes it complicated for a cheap $10 phone.
If the Nokia 225 had a hotspot I would be down 😅 anyone have any suggestions for a phone like these that has a hotspot feature? I'd still like to be able to work or study when I'm out of the house
I've never owned a smart phone for all the reasons that you list (plus only once a week battery charging!) and have clung to a small Nokia type 'dumb' phone for years. However, I'm being forced off 3G and people insist upon sending me stuff that needs a bigger screen, so looks like I'll be buying a cheap smartphone. BUT I figure I'll get annoyed with it soon enough and buy another dumb phone.
Even though the idea of a phone that increases your productivity sounds really interesting, it nowhere near explains the price. $300 for just a simple E-Ink phone is literally a scam, especially with the few features it provides. If it had a price between $100 - $150, it would be fair, but nothing over that. I don't want to pay for the simplicity.
I would love to see the ability to tether dumb phones to smartphones. Unfortunately I have the need for a few work related smartphone apps so I would love to just leave my smartphone on my desk while walking around the house with the dumb phone so when I get calls on my smartphone it immediately forwards to my dumb phone.
Could leave the smartphone connected to wifi, and use your phone sim in the Lightphone. Or, using Ting service, add a 2nd line for $7 per month, just for the smartphone. But this starts getting into the "what's the point?" territory.
I'm waiting for this to get a litter bigger in size so I can text vertically and that Spotify integration🤞🏻 other than that it's really tempting. Also I'd appreciate taking good pictures as well so i don't have to carry an extra device for taking pictures 🤷🏻♀️ i get they want you to live in the moment but let's be real you wanna take a picture of that mountain peak too...
Not to be shallow, but I dont imagine that most beautiful young women would be comfortable giving out their number to a guy who pulls out a 20 year old flip phone. Girls would probably judge you less with a dumb phone like this
300 is too much for the phone. If it was half the price I would have bought 5 minutes after seeing it. There is no way this phone costs as much as 300 smart phone if not the greed
Because old blackberry’s don’t work anymore? 🤣 I get your point, but blackberry’s is the wrong example to use. They stopped working last year, unless you cracked it previously.
This is a NO GO due to the old school Micro-USB - hopefully the Light Phone 3 will use USB-C like every other device made - also did not not like your scammy Mint Mobile ad you embedded in your video. BIG THUMBS DOWN dude !!
I feel like this swung the pendulum too far the other way. I literally just want a phone that blocks social media, but I still want to be able to listen to music or set up an Amazon Alexa. I'm not paying $300 for a phone that doesn't have the common things like working as a GPS while driving, setting up and using smart home devices, or reading Wikipedia.
@@99MaxRepels Some will, sure. But I think there's a significant amount of people who won't. Just straight up block social media apps and websites, curate useful apps, and let the device allow me to live in modern society without the negative aspects.

That's a good point
I think it’s awesome that the features are so limited and unattractive. It’s the goal to break the addiction. Great video!
Mine is in the mail, I’m stoked! After a couple years of thinking about it, I finally pulled the trigger
@Mathias-nq3ni bro never responded, he went dark 😂

I just wish I could connect to audiobooks or spotify and I would be sold
Let's go!!! Enjoy the Light Phone journey :)
Heyyyy Jose! Knew I would see you here.
Hey thanks for the video Dorian, if you could give an update on how maps and navigating with the phone works?
Instead of the qwerty board you can always use voice to text - cool!

Do you need a data plan with these phones?
How was the light phone service? It’s in the ATT network right?

Does anybody know if this works in Canada? Has anybody on here successfully activated and used a Lite phone in Canada?
i know you don't like t9 keyboard but seeing the struggle I think you might be better off with feature phone of Nokia having wifi, Bluetooth and gps connectivity. Right?
Would it work on verizon?
I was thinking about to buy an used Nokia E52 for the same reasons.

I agree the Nokia 225 is only $50 paying that amount for a light phone is too expensive

Yes also and don’t have good maps
Me on youtube on my browser after deleting the app

Camera?
Love your videos
I´m just waiting for the phone to have coverage in Colombia :(

I like it. I want to buy it but the price is so high for something like this 😢.
I heard you could do voice texting…
1st time i saw the thumb nail i thought you are an astronaut, plummer , police, fireman etc.
Wow Johni sin now started podcast 🎉🎉🎉
I'd love to have one of these but sadly they don't work in Canada.
Yes it does, I use one and am on a public mobile plan

Man, it would be so cool if it supported uber, that is like the only other app I really need on a phone
i saw a random short where someone just called a phone number to get an uber
I think the company is trying to get that collar with Uber
Leave a smartphone with no SIM in your car and hotspot it to the Light phone
Hey
Been following your idealogies for a while
Today i landed my first job (internship plus placement)
🎉🎉
Wow an 11 minute video where you never actually use the phone in your hand. What a joke. Well done
Thanks to this review now I’m positive I’m not getting these minimalist phones
The design, shape is resemble Nokia Asha 501
I appreciate the video but you didn't show actual use of the phone at all
Buy a blackberry classic or passport 🤷🏻♂️

use a tablet ?

Should not need a login to use

Damn Johnny Sins reviewing a phone for a living.
Never thought I’d see the day
The light phone doesn’t work on mint mobile…weird ad for this video 😂
It 100% does work with Mint in the US and I'm using it with Mint Mobile right now! www.thelightphone.com/compatibility-checker

That's why I'm opting for the Jelly Star. I wish it were a tiny bit bigger, but I'll have all the essentials and it's cheaper.
So use a regular phone but don't install social media on it
But if the option to download is there, people will. That's the whole point, there's a worldwide addiction going around
