I took the Va claims academy course and it shows you how to get service connected. I’m service connected just waiting on an increases I also used the personal statement template that helps with the claim that gets straight to the point.

I have chronic migraines (Almost everyday for the last 19 years) that is service connected and rated 0% and they won't increase it whatsoever. The doctors try to say that I don't accept treatment because they wanted me to do botox which is 30 shots in the face every 3 months and I said no.

Go to a private doctor and get a second opinion. Invasive treatment is typically last resort, so if prescription medications haven’t been tried yet it’s an error on their part.

Botox doesn’t work all that well for chronic headaches. Are you seeing a neurologist at the VA? Maybe you need to see a doctor outside the VA.

The easiest way to get migraines claims approved is as a secondary. Also, be careful with using the word prostrating in a C&P exam.

It shouldn't matter, but the examiners and raters take offense to us using their terminology. I guess they see it as us being untruthful for describing our symptoms in their own words. I've been trying to understand my symptoms and the VAs definitions so I can explain them to the raters and my personal statements as accurately as possible. It sucks but we gotta make sure we don't shoot ourselves in the foot and get under rated because we didn't understand that our pain means very little compared to being prescribed medications or flexibility of joints, etc. The VA likes us uneducated so they can pull the wool over our eyes and deny, under rate, or reduce our rating and compensation.

Your leaving out the most important part.. How to go about getting migraines service connected. I know I didn't have migraines till I came back from Iraq but I can't put a finger on one instants and say yep.... That's what did it that why I have migraines.. here it is C&P person here was caused it . I have tons of documents from my family doctor.. but how does that help. I have a years worth of migraine diaries. But I can tell you from experience no doctor I've shown them to cares one damn them . They just say wow that's a lot of headaches...
So how does any of that equate into helping get service connected?

Question off topic. I’ve been to a chiropractor for about 4yrs now to treat sciatica. PCP says I also need to start seeing an orthopedic. For possible surgery. Would I need a nexus from both, chiropractor and ortho? Or can chiropractic be good enough? Thanks. Great videos

    • @spencer7197

I ain't Jordan but I was in your shoes. Got rated 0%. Went on the VA website and went ahead and filed for an increase about a year after that 0% percent rating. I made sure to clearly state the symptoms I had been experiencing, but unfortunately I got the same person conducting the C&P exam. I filed for an increase again after moving 2 years later. Symptoms were the same as they had always been. Got a different "doc" for the C&P exam and I got 30% rating. Besides this the only difference I can think of was that I made sure not only to explain the symptoms but to explain the day to day impacts. I was clear and concise and it was definitely the shortest c&p exam for migraines I had up to that point. In my experience it really comes down to who conducts the C&P exam and how clear and concise you are. Not saying you weren't, but man it took me 4 total years before I got rated above 0% for that. The important thing is a 0% percent rating is still service connected so you have that under your belt.
