The theme represents the collaborative effort and the coming together to get us to Yyasulani, everyone's refusal to let the attack get them down, not the bomb itself. Thought that was obvious.

Sphene was a poor soul who couldn't live for the present. Despite how much she adored her subjects she was so focused on preserving the Endless that she lost sight of what was important- thanks in no small part to her creators. All she could do was fight *for those she had lost* , incapable of fighting *for those she could yet save*
The (very sad) point is that she wasn't even a soul anymore. Only a recollection of memories of the gentle Queen Sphene. So she just couldn't do something like "changing her mind". At least in the end we did see her love for her people. But as you said... She fought to preserve her people, not save them.
So a less personal retreat of Emet's character, except she shows up when the expansion is almost over and has no personal connection to us at all. But hey, at least even the most dimwitted fan can now point at her and repeat the things we've already learned in Shadowbringers.
it's honestly unhinged the lengths the writers went to to try and force sympathy for sphene down our throat. but hell, the writers didn't understand their own story so how are we supposed to, let's just enjoy being emotionally manipulated
This song definitely feels like it's childed from that... Actually, considering all these classes of songs are from a person's POV (dragonsong is from Hræsvelgr, nidhogg and the rest of the dragon's perspective, tomorrow and tomorrow is likely from Raha's, shadowbringers is from emet and the fallen ancients's, to the edge is from Emet's, flow is from hyedaelin's, etc), you could argue with the WoL being a mentor role character now, this is us singing, passing on that knowledge and above all hope. That would also explain why even though it appears in times of pressure, it's so upbeat, we as a character are far beyond having fear or doubt,.
@@DreaminaL29It’s also the theme of The Ancients as a whole. ‘Neath Dark Waters shares the motif, and even both Elpis themes have it along with Ktesis. Not to mention the obvious one of a certain fight in Pandae. The lyrics painting a somber picture of defiance for a people who just want to rest… For a people who just want to see another beautiful day. Compared to Tomorrow and Tomorrow which purposely dualities Emet and ‘Raha and letting go of the past to be unburdened unto a new tomorrow, it paints a very different meaning and I love that. This was a very long-winded and convoluted way of saying I agree with evidence, sorry for the rant XD

I wish i could've play Dawntrail with my Hueband... Sadly he ended his life at the start of this year... Dawntrail was surely representing my life in many ways... I surely enjoyee it a lot! R i.P. my beloved Husband, may our chorus carry on!
Smile instantly reminded me of Auskas, a member of our FC. We lost him a couple of years to suicide. During endwalker he always used to say "smile" whenever I asked what was going to happen next and how I couldn't take any more heartbreak through the story. His "smile" has become a motto somehow. And then this song.
I'm so sorry you experienced this, I think the beauty of Dawntrail is that it's a journey that helps you accept the idea of death so I hope you gained some comfort from the story.
I gotta say, I keep coming back to listen, and I always get emotional near the end lowkey. The part starting from about 6:25 to the end has got to be my favorite part. The melody, the strings, the layering of the choir’s different parts. Gets me so hyped. Wish I knew for certain what the lyrics are. Sounds beautiful.
It’s really good, it grows on you even more and I enjoyed it a lot as a credits song. It just didn’t feel that fitting for me or deserved when it played during msq. If there was a bit of a better emotional or fun buildup maybe? That being said, I still enjoyed it, it’s great. As many things like the character dialogue and overall writing, it could have been executed a bit better in my opinion.
Yeah okay I hated this song and thought it sounded so corny during the game. But turns out it's actually really really good once I heard it in the credits in its entirety. it was way too lively and over-the-top for the scenes it was used it. But holy shit when you read the lyrics and just let yourself listen to it for what it is, it suddenly becomes one of the best themes in FFXIV history I think. I especially like that Tomorrow and Tomorrow reference at the very end
but nothing that happened in the MSQ deserved this payoff. Wuk Lamat is the ultimate Mary Sue that spend the entire expansion just repeating "i love my peepo" and everyone just hands everything to her.
@@Sneedmeister Nah, she did stumbled and sucked at the early. Have you play the MSQ when they introduced the candidates? She couldn't even match with Bakool Ja Ja at first, but we guided her through the dungeons and trials. We, the person who defeated gods and the avatar of death and hopelessness, is a mentor to this girl who tries to prove herself to her family, her people, even some of her enemies. She's definitely not a Mary Sue, just has us, a really really strong and op person guide her through thick and thin :)
@@Sneedmeister You have no idea what a Mary Sue is. Also, the context this track is used in IS related to unity and teamwork. People gloss over that because a "bomb" was involved, but they forget WHY it was being used: To mount a rescue mission, and bringing in the lot to get it done. But by all means, pretend you played the MSQ.
@@Sneedmeisteri agree, anon. I refuse them letting the writer of past expansions go and letting in some transformer optimus prime come and write this sh11t. N
For real. It was super cheesy when used ingame, but honestly is pretty good. I wasn't expecting a gospel/american musical style number for the finale song this expansion.
I do think it would have fit a lot better if it was used solely in the credits. And we had just instrumental versions during the MSQ moments. (Though admittedly I kinda liked it when they started building the bomb train).
SAME. It was waaaaay too cheesy for me when they were building the train bomb and I kinda cringed when it played there but then listening to the full song during credits it's actually pretty nice :-D
@@writershard5065Cannot agree more. I literally burst out laughing when it was used for that Enis Lobby moment, yet as the scene went on I started genuinely loving it a bit more. And it really fits the credits so freaking well!
There are some big community done things of close the distance where a ton of people are all singing together and IMHO this song is PERFECT for that type of thing
I’m hoping they release the official lyrics soon. This song is in the musical theater style, so knowing the words helps a lot with understanding the emotion you’re meant to feel when it’s performed.
@@crowolf3862 makes me wish they released the soundtrack and the official lyrics to coincide with the release of the new content instead of months after
Of course it's different from everything that's come before. We've seen ourselves through the night. The dark, somber tones have passed. As a great Scion once said: From tragedy and sacrifice we rise to greet a new dawn.
Wuk Lamat doesn't deserve any of the praise anyone has given her in the story. She has literally done nothing but "hey man....good vibes and stuff" and thats it.
yes because they're trying to reference something from the past that you enjoyed in order to give weight to this obvious dogshit story they slopped out. "ohhh heyyyy if we reference shadowbringers then they'll forget this MSQ sucks balls!"
As much as I like this version, I'm still really sad we don't have an Amanda Achen version of it. The little preview we got in the main theme had me hyped for it
Ayyy, thanks for this! I've been looking for the full version since I first heard it in the cutscene :D Such a hopeful and wholesome song, they did an amazing job imo.
There's something a bit akward about the vocals for me, the lyrics seem a little complicated for the time allowed to say them (too many syllables) and it ends up feeling like everyone is in a bit of a hurry and is cramming them in there to fit the melody, ending abrubtly too. Like some fanmade translated covers of japanese songs do. Not trying to be a hater or anything, just my feelings on it.
You're not being a hater in fact you gave a proper critique on this and that's way better than other people here spewing hate and not giving a well laid opinion open for discussion
It's most likely a "translated cover of a Japanese song", yep. From what I know, the lyrics for theme songs are first written in Japanese and then translated to English.
@@jamesrusselleriii8284 Hey, chat, we found the shitter ! It's an awesome theme indeed, with easily Two layers of lecture, maybe a third one from a certain someone perspective.
"Why is it not another somber sad melody like previous expansions!?" Imagine missing the point of the expansion this badly. But hey, if it's not your type of music, thats fine. Just don't go immediatly calling "shit" just cause it's a genre you disagree. I personally love it. Feels like something right at the end of a broadway musical. Such a bold way to open a brand new saga rather than the same old. Dawntrail has its flaws for sure, but the fact people keep comparing it to ShB EW who had tons of previous buildup while this is starting fresh so it doesn't have that luxury. If this is what a "ARR 2.0" is, I can't wit for later expansions when stuff can be build even further.
(SPOILER WARNING) As someone who loved Dawntrail with all my heart, I don't mind the song (I neither like it nor hate it), and I actually thought it fits *very* well as they showed everyone in Tuliyollal celebrating at the end. But I do think it sounds misplaced at times. Especially at the very and as we watch the sunrise in Living Memory; the vocals felt way too cheery. I was at the verge of crying there, and the song kind of took me away from it. Even if the sun was meant to be a glimpse of hope, the map itself and the situation around it deserved something more melancholic and calm imo, perhaps some instrumentals, much like FFXV did. After all, it was pretty bittersweet still.
@@juliappoki exactly I felt you kind of just committed genocide and now you get a upbeat song like tone deaf much (they could have made a more somber rendition or instrumental), don't get me wrong enjoy the song in the choosing ceremony and like when you fix the train with that montage but not at the end where it is.
I don't care what people say. Dawntrail is a good expansion, to this day it's still the only MMORPG that managed to keep my full attention for 13 years, i loved every second of it and i hope that Square Enix won't stop it juste because many people cried that they wanted another Endwalker level story directly after. Ideas like this are the exact reason why World of Warcraft became the dumpster of MMO's while it was the biggest of them all at the start.
You must have played WoW a lot. Why exactly was ARR done? Oh yeah, because players were unhappy. How can someone playing for 13 years not know that if enough people unsub then they will maybe put some more thought into their stories. DT is a Blizzard-qualty MSQ. It checks all the Blizzard boxes.
Indeed, Dawntrail was beautiful, I hope Yoshi-P knows what a phenomenal job he did, especially on that final area! There are flaws, but I hope they'll learn and keep making amazing stories!
@@melissas4874well tell me an exemple of where FF14 got as Shitty as WoW ? Also please remind me where FF rebooted his lore multiple time only to keep coming with expansions that had no interest at all ? To say more about what i said for Dawntrail, you can't expect the beginning of a new narrative to be like the climax of the one before. Endwalker wouldn't have been that great without ARR, Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers before. Also saying that Dawntrail is story-wise "a new ARR" it's not my words but Yoshi-P's.
This sounds very Shiro Sagisu, especially his songs that he creates himself in his SongBook, I also like the harmonic dissonance that sounds throughout the song, it's like it's a really happy "Komm Susser Tod" lol. I don't understand why people hate it.
From what I've seen, people think the vocals are out of tune? I'd get it if they've never heard harmonic dissonance before, but this isn't the first time they've used it in the game so maybe they're just making stuff up to criticise 🤨
This is very much a recurring thing in XIV, Soken deals alot in leitmotifs, The main theme of each expac is part of almost all the tracks one way or another
@@ArahdunGaming Oh I know, but I didn't hear the beginning of Smile in any other song in Dawntrail (the part where she begins to sing) in another song of Dawntrail.
The vocals sound crazy to me, I don't want to be shady but I'm not gonna lie, I like the big gospel chorus toward the end, that part sounds great but the verses sound so weird.
@@adampitt9311 It's very wild to me that it was put in like that since FF14 usually has the music on point, and most of the other songs sound great. So for the main song, and the last one you hear for the credits to be like this. I don't understand, pitchy and the mixing isn't right. The more you hear it, the crazier it sounds. If the lower gospel part towards the end is the same singer, maybe the verses and chorus are just way too high for her because that part suddenly sounds a lot better but most of it is rough AF.
This song could've been perfect. But something is not right. It's like a car. But there's something loose, some screws, I don't know. I feel like a little fixing and it would be one of ffxiv greatest song.
The singer's voice is pitchy, breathy, rushed, and nasal. She was ... not the best choice. Even worse, because she *asked* for this style of song. Her voice is not suited to this song; she'd do better with a slower, more delicate melody.
So the first time I heard this I immediately thought, "what in the high school musical is this?" But after listening to it again, and realizing who's singing and what they're singing about, I can't stop listening. It's so wonderful, with an awesome message
Man this song is so wholesome, and got such Disney vibes, and it reminded me a little of Lion King :D idk how to explain it but damn this song is wonderful!
At first I was mostly indifferent to Smile. It was a song that didn't overly impact me. Listening back I'm glad to have changed my tune. I cannot express just how much I love the more melancholic sounding lyrics with the upbeat music and choir sound. The juxtaposition is just amazing and oh so fitting for DT
I want people to understand. This is ESSENTIALLY, ARR. the story ended after endwalker and now were onto another 10 year arc. And this is the beginning of it. There has to he setup and new character intorductions for the future. The first half was boring sure, but the 2nd half was great!
I personally didn't mind it now that I'm all the way through, but there were some ups and downs along the way. The thing with saying this is a restart like ARR is that sometimes it feels like they haven't learned anything even though ARR came out 10 years ago. We'll see where they go from here though before we can say for sure.
Between ARR and DT it’s like night and day, they really learned a lot in the “engaging world building” department imo. Even as a huge Doma weeb, Stormblood kinda pales in comparison, I love all the different areas we got to go to and the people we got to meet.
It kinda crashed again when you had to do another cultural tour through the final area of the expansion, after all the build-up beforehand. Like I get it, its one of the major themes of the game, but damn I really wanted to punch the final boss in the face.
@@AresLodin Another thing regarding this being the new ARR (spoilers): At the end of DT we’re left in pretty much the exact same place we were at the end of the void arc, which is the same place we were at the end of EW proper. All the current world-ending threats have been resolved and we’re just generically looking forward to our next new adventure that totally won’t involve us saving the world this time, probably. Sure a lot of their continuations in previous expansions boiled to “what are the ascians/garlemald planning” and we’ve resolved those issues, but how long are we going to be getting these episodic ‘bad-guy-of-the-expac’ stories?
Been trying to note down the lyrics. I also tried to compare my notes to lyric videos for Dawntrail and Open Sky, plus Pealeaf's cover. Rule of 3! Towards the end of the second time did it hit me a bit, when it winded down some during the night seeing Alisaie sleeping and all. Definitely was bursting out laughing when it played that time, and I do think it shoulda only been used during the credits, but deeeeefinitely not a bad song in the slightest. I know this song kind of has people split on if they like it or not (and the expansion has done that too) but for some reason it feels so nostalgic and happy to me.
its a little Disney Channel sure, but idk why thats a bad thing? Last i checked Disney been making bangers since i was i kid. I like a good cheesy montage of friends working together set to upbeat fun music, sue me. Certified banger.
Can't speak for others, but it was just too jarring for the expansion's finale for me. If they swapped the credits' first song with this, zero complaints. It's not remotely a bad song at all, just don't like it for the final cutscene.
much like the expansion itself, this is something different. i really loved hearing that choir kick in during the msq and looking forward to having enough of my fc through msq that i can pop this music roll in the house.
What a great expansion. People not liking is understandable because it is different from the other expansions. But the story being bad is ABSOLUTELY DEAD WRONG!!! First half was cozy and Wuk Lamat was forced to be padded out over time. But that second half was done so much better for every single character. Love this song too! Threw me off for a second when i heard it the first time but I still very much like it! I hope future expansions learn from dawntrail's mistakes and improves even more! Cheers to a fun expansion :D
@@jpl523 Personally, I think it was MEANT to be like that. At the end of Dawntrail, Sphene says basically to Wuk Lamat what Emet-Selch said to the WoL. It made me go "Oh, they're a reflection of the WoL and Emet." Sphene says something VERY close to Emet's "Remember that we once lived" when giving farewells to Wuk Lamat. Although, in a more upbeat context I suppose. It's like a love letter to the WoL's story, shown through a different lens.
@@jpl523 I think Sphene is more like re-hashed Meteion, similarly obsessed and similarly pre-programmed to pursue a seemingly noble objective which is legitimately insane to any outside observer. Both strive for an artificial and unnatural stasis, but Meteion's stasis was one of despair and misery, while Sphene's one is of bliss and happiness.
There are songs that I love in FFXIV and there are songs I don't really care about. Meanwhile, this is the only song in the whole game that I find genuinely, truly horrible to listen to, and that made the MSQ scenes it played in SIGNIFICANTLY worse. Everyone I know who has heard it feels the same way. I don't know why it has this many likes, I don't know where these people come from.
@@MasanianI think most people are capable of enjoying music in things they think are otherwise bad and disliking music in things they think are otherwise good
I am one of few who did not like this song. Or this particular version. The female vocals feel all over the place in tone and pitch and I over all just had a hard time enjoying it. I think a lot had to do with a lot of the words being held out in some spots to be longer than they usually would be and the pitch and volume changing mid word-- it felt odd with the background music still going onward without the lyrics. The song is very much still good and I really like the lyrics and the choir parts were great, but not my favourite version of this overall theme.
Im sure if disney was bringing it back it would be lion queen just they way they are now but i grew up on lion king so it will forever be lion king lol

@@optimaltt6070 To be fair, it sounds more like a Disneyland parade song I'd say (I may contradict myself tomorrow because who knows what the future holds)
I see a few comments saying its gospel/Christian music. Just because its choir doesnt automatically make it gospel i promise you. It reminds me more of a play/performance or a song that celebrates all cultures.[mind you i dont know what all the lyrics are saying] it gives me a "around the world" vibe. I do agree in some moments it felt a bit overwhelming/out of place but its a beautiful song. And it's the start of a new era/ark so ofc some things are gonna be a little wonky/feel a bit weak.
I really love the composition of this song, I think it is fitting, I just think the choice of vocalist and the way vocals of the choir are mixed to be very very questionable.
bro this is straight up cope. this is a cringe "black church" gospel song. I can imagine Reverend Jessy Jackson singing this while demanding you donate to his latest scam fundraiser. or maybe I can imagine this song playing for a Coca Cola commercial
what does anyone else think the pov of the song is? to me SPOILERS - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - , with what lyrics i can parse, I think it's a sweet idea if its from the people of Living Memory. As they "physically", aetherically leave the world I think its sweet if its from them as they fade away, or even as "live on" in our hearts, like the game was saying. The main singer reminds me of Cahciua which is what made me think of it
This is the least FF sounding song I think I've heard so far and I'm not a fan. It's very Disney and I have PTSD from hearing it appear out of nowhere in the MSQ and give me whiplash.
lmao when Wuk jumped off the balcony and this Slop started I actually just closed the game. I dont think XIV is for me anymore if we're going 100% slop mode
you apparently forget that the ff13 ending is done by a pop singer - Leona Lewis good song but not final fantasy, and lets not even talk about ff15's ending song
@@TeaTimeTable I didnt play FF13 or 15 bc no PlayStation. I think the difference might be that the songs for 13 and 15 are actually good and fit the moment's where they are used (just looked them up). The places they threw this song in really come out of nowhere.
@@obscuratea Um no the ending for 13 could have easily been a japanese song i like leona lewis and all but it seems out of place for a JRPG to have that as the ending song, and FF15 was even more cringe with that song
SE tried too hard to spin an extremely positive song from a singer who is known for traditional anime works, not to mention Scream. This would have been better with a singer that had a little bit of a lower tone. Her higher pitch is grating and detracts from how the song is set up to sound. And in the end I have to ask just based on how this song sounds...When is the Tural Tour Ride coming to Walt Disney World? Lol
The problem I have with this song is the illegibility of the vocal and how rushed the vocal itself is. If they had slowed the tempo of the vocal, and cleaned up the vocals legibility the song would resonate significantly better. The song itself though it beautiful, especially the reprise.
Lol that's who it reminded me of, I couldn't put my finger on it. It kinda gives Peter Griffin too, the vocals sound insane to me, I don't understand what happened there.
Sorry, I can't stand the main singer. I feel no emotion, a complete disconnect of lyric and feel. Her technics are bad, it's almost out of tune. The choir is awesome, the instrumental is awesome, I just don't understand the direction choice for this weird main vocal technics. Weak voice choice. Also, super out of place this song was in the MSQ.
“Alright everyone, let’s start the work on a giant bomb!” *smile starts playing*
Peak HAHA
The theme represents the collaborative effort and the coming together to get us to Yyasulani, everyone's refusal to let the attack get them down, not the bomb itself. Thought that was obvious.

Unofficial Lyrics from what I can hear:
Last edit: 07/27/24
At the crossroads, standing here
Not a star in the sky to guide me tonight
If we're lost and lost in fear
Deep in darkness, drown my cries
All this pain inside of me
Don't know where it starts and when it'll end
Try to tame the agony
As I close my eyes and scream to the wind
Look around and find me standing all alone
(Look again, we're standing there!)
Cuz the storm has taken everything I'd known
(Needn't loss you needn't bear!)
Dunno why I'd thought I'd make it by myself
(After all we've been through)
Out of time, I'm running blind, can somebody help!
(We'll always stand for you!)
Learned so much in life I couldn't understand
(Understand we're by your side!)
Stand, we'll come face tomorrow hand in hand
(When in yours, and yours in mine)
Weaving memory through the warmth of every land
(This is our tale, our tapestry!)
Never losing sight of everywhere I've been!
(Let it be a part of me!)
In lightning's wake, did naught but ash remain
Yet in the rain, does life's song ring again
Our ancient forest sound beyond the place
It carries on, we will carry on!
So smile and let the rainbows sing!
(Let them hymn in you and me!)
Alive with everything it brings!
(Unto peace and harmony)
We walk a never-ending trail
(In our hearts, we carry this)
We'll know that we shall never pale
(This is our inheritance)
I turn around and walk to the sea
(Just imagine what's around the bend?)
Along they guide to the way to the key
(Magic or mischief? Gods Forfend!)
A sleight of hand, a birth of light
(Endless marvels, mysteries, newfound friends)
To see a spark wherever it goes
(Wilder than wildest dreams portend)
Tight,
Seize the day and hold on tight
The sun is rising
Life, take it slow and take a bite
So high (unwind your heart and find your worries'll disappear) on the dawn we set our sights
A new horizon
Fly, (now turn the page to tales untold) ever forwards, starry-eyed
Hold tight, this land we call our home
(Build upon our common dream)
We fight to never let it go
(All in all, just you and me)
Oh fun, we had not seen the last
(The Sun one day, she'll rise)
We'll rise again once it has past
(On and on, we march and stride)
In the end, a figurehead in the sky
(Tender hearts or sorrow's skies to mend)
We'll spread our wings and take to the sky!
(Fill them with golden tones instead)
We'll walk along with tears in our eyes!
(Steady forward, there's so much to see)
Together, for the rest of our lives!
(Altogether, you and me)
Not the end you seek (Not the end you seek)
And from the Heavens (from the heavens)
And go beneath (and we go beneath)
And soon on water, journey on
Never gonna stop x2
When we're together, it's nothing friend
Forever, for we won't end!

OH LAWD, YOU KNOW WE LOVE THEM RAAAAAAAAAAAAANGS
@@Sneedmeister This song isn't even about her 😭
Sphene was a poor soul who couldn't live for the present.
@@Chaoskoch I don't remember asking but whatever
Not soul, A.I.
it's honestly unhinged the lengths the writers went to to try and force sympathy for sphene down our throat. but hell, the writers didn't understand their own story so how are we supposed to, let's just enjoy being emotionally manipulated
A smile better suits a hero indeed.

This comment hurt so bad it’s criminal 😭😭
@@rexex345to the edge is more like Elidibus, since it's the song of his fight
@@DreaminaL29It’s also the theme of The Ancients as a whole. ‘Neath Dark Waters shares the motif, and even both Elpis themes have it along with Ktesis. Not to mention the obvious one of a certain fight in Pandae. The lyrics painting a somber picture of defiance for a people who just want to rest… For a people who just want to see another beautiful day. Compared to Tomorrow and Tomorrow which purposely dualities Emet and ‘Raha and letting go of the past to be unburdened unto a new tomorrow, it paints a very different meaning and I love that.

R i.P. my beloved Husband, may our chorus carry on!
Fuck, I'm so sorry :( I'm glad you got some enjoyment out of Dawntrail. I'm sorry you had to go through that. May your husband rest in peace.
Definitely a song that grows on you the more you listen to it.
Insane that people don’t like this song. Not as emotional as Flow or Tomorrow and Tomorrow or Dragonsong, but it’s very fitting for the expansion.
I'm excited for when they eventually do this live, the choir will go so hard
It’s really good, it grows on you even more and I enjoyed it a lot as a credits song. It just didn’t feel that fitting for me or deserved when it played during msq. If there was a bit of a better emotional or fun buildup maybe? That being said, I still enjoyed it, it’s great.
As many things like the character dialogue and overall writing, it could have been executed a bit better in my opinion.
It’s also so inspiring and uplifting and I feel we all needed that
It's growing on me
Just opinions. That’s all.
This song is a celebration of our deeds, our companions, and the unity of the star. That's why it's uplifting like this, and I'm all for it!
but nothing that happened in the MSQ deserved this payoff.

That will play sometimes during the patches for sure.
Ayyy, thanks for this! I've been looking for the full version since I first heard it in the cutscene :D
Such a hopeful and wholesome song, they did an amazing job imo.

(SPOILER WARNING)
As someone who loved Dawntrail with all my heart, I don't mind the song (I neither like it nor hate it), and I actually thought it fits *very* well as they showed everyone in Tuliyollal celebrating at the end.
This slaps. Motivational AF. Perfect song for this expansion.
There are flaws, but I hope they'll learn and keep making amazing stories!
there's more to an expansion than its story, the story is only temporary, the content is forever, and the content in Dawntrail has been excellent.
Except Dawntrail actually tried to make an Endwalker level story. Ironic.
SO SMILEEEEEEE AND LET THE RAINBOW SING
This sounds very Shiro Sagisu, especially his songs that he creates himself in his SongBook, I also like the harmonic dissonance that sounds throughout the song, it's like it's a really happy "Komm Susser Tod" lol.
I don't understand why people hate it.
From what I've seen, people think the vocals are out of tune? I'd get it if they've never heard harmonic dissonance before, but this isn't the first time they've used it in the game so maybe they're just making stuff up to criticise 🤨
I just noticed something, if you listen carefully to the song, it has the same kind melody as the lvl 99 trial.
This is very much a recurring thing in XIV, Soken deals alot in leitmotifs, The main theme of each expac is part of almost all the tracks one way or another

Oh I know, but I didn't hear the beginning of Smile in any other song in Dawntrail (the part where she begins to sing) in another song of Dawntrail.

The vocals sound crazy to me, I don't want to be shady but I'm not gonna lie, I like the big gospel chorus toward the end, that part sounds great but the verses sound so weird.
Yeah, it sounds like she's rushing out the lyrics. Maybe it would've been better with less? Or slow the song down so the notes have time to "breathe".
@@ChurroizationThe delivery is weird and it's kind of pitchy, it doesn't sound right.
@@mismismismsuper pitchy! It's when she moves between notes, the glides are all over the shop!
The vocals in the opening aren’t pitched right. The chorus is great but the verses aren’t good
The singer's voice is pitchy, breathy, rushed, and nasal. She was ... not the best choice.
This is the kind of song that plays at the end of a 90s Disney movie where everyone celebrates after the villain dies a most gruesome death
Man this song is so wholesome, and got such Disney vibes, and it reminded me a little of Lion King :D idk how to explain it but damn this song is wonderful!

Weird, I feel the opposite. I enjoyed the first half more 😅
@@AresLodin Another thing regarding this being the new ARR (spoilers):
At the end of DT we’re left in pretty much the exact same place we were at the end of the void arc, which is the same place we were at the end of EW proper.
I've been looking for this ever since i first heard it a week ago, finally found it
Me checking comments to see what all people think of the song: *insert random vitriol about dawntrail msq story* there it is qwq
3:55 gives me actual chills at this part
Been trying to note down the lyrics. I also tried to compare my notes to lyric videos for Dawntrail and Open Sky, plus Pealeaf's cover.
Starting at 2:27, I got this:
At the crossroads standing here,
not a star in the sky to guide me tonight.
If we're lost and lost in fear,
deep in darkness drown my cries.
All this pain inside of me,
don't know where it starts or when it'll end.
Try to tame the agony,
as I close my eyes and scream to the wind.
Look around and find you're standing all alone,
(look again we're standing there),
'cause the storm is taking everything you know,
(feel a loss you needn't bear).
Don't know why I thought I'd make it by myself,
(after all that we've been through).
Out of time, I'm running blank inside my hell,
(know we're always there for you).
There's so much in life I couldn't understand,
(understand we're by your side),
standing tall we'll face tomorrow hand in hand,
(one in yours and yours in mine),
weaving memories through the war through every land,
(as we tell our tapestry),
never loosing sight of everywhere that I've been,
(in a new economy).
In lightning's wake did naught but ash remain {edited},
yet in the rain does our song ring again,
our ancient chorus up beyond the graves,
it carries on, we will carry on.
So fly and let the rainbow sing,
(we were never __),
alive with everything it brings,
(after peace and harmony),
we walk a neverending trail,
(in our arms we carry this),
we'll know that we shall never pay,
(this our inheritance).
Just imagine what's around the bend,
(this is one more ending),
magic or mischief, gods forfend,
(we can sing, remember me/in memory).
Endless marvels, mysteries, newfound friends,
(_ all for one),
wilder than wildest dreams portend,
('til tomorrow comes again).
Tight, seize the day and hold on tight, the sun is rising.
Life, take it slow and take a bite.
So high, on the dawn we set our sights, a new horizon,
(so wide your heart and find your worries'll disappear).
Fly, ever forward starry-eyed,
(now turn the page to tales untold),
Ooooh ooooh yeah.
Hold tight, this land we call our home,
(with a running commentary).
We fight to never let it go,
(holding on, we still believe),
_ we have not seen the rest,
(in a song - our ancient rights/rites).
We'll rise again once it has passed,
(heading home we march and stride).
In unison grin and smile,
[tender hearts or sorrow's skies to mend],
(in our arms we'll carry you),
we'll spread our wings and take to the sky ohhh,
[fill them with golden tones instead],
(_ we can see).
Don't walk alone with tears in your eyes,
[steady forward there's so much to see],
('til tomorrow comes again).
together for the rest of life,
[hold on, together you and me]
('til tomorrow comes again).
At the head of seas,
(at the head of seas),
oh from the heavens (oh from the heavens) the dawn will crown what we leave,
(_ crown what we leave),
sailing along (sail, we carry on), we carry on oh,
never gonna stop,
(never gonna stop),
never gonna stop,
(ohhh yeaaaaaaaah).
We came to gather/together - this many friends,
(ooooohh yeeeeeaaah)
now and forever - for we won't end!
It's definitely not economy lol
@@jordanlopez942 It was the only thing I could think of xD
Definitely after the third listen did i start to warm up to this song luckily it plays 3 times through the MSQ
Rule of 3! Towards the end of the second time did it hit me a bit, when it winded down some during the night seeing Alisaie sleeping and all. Definitely was bursting out laughing when it played that time, and I do think it shoulda only been used during the credits, but deeeeefinitely not a bad song in the slightest. I’d say I like this better than Revolutions any day.
Lyrics:
At the crossroads standing here
Not a star in the sky to guide me tonight
Ever lost in loss and fear
Deep in darkness drown my cries
All this pain inside of me
Don't know where it starts or when it'll end
Try to tend the agony
As I close my eyes and scream to the wind
Look around and find you're standing all alone
(Look again we're standing there)
Cause this storm has taken everything I know
(Ev'ry loss, you needn't bear)
Don't know why you thought I'd make it by myself
(After all that we've been through)
Out of time I'm running back inside my head
(We were always there for you)
There's so much in life I couldn't understand
(Understand we're by your side)
Standing tall we'll face tomorrow hand in hand
(Putting yours in yours and mine)
If we make it through the war through every land
(This is our tale, our tapestry)
Never losing sight of everywhere I've been
(???) -Backing Vocals
In lightning's wake did naught but ash remain
Yet with the rain does life's song ring again
Our ancient war has gone beyond the plains (unsure about this one)
It carries on, we will carry on
Loved this ending song :D Ended perfectly like an upbeat 90s feel-good movie.
cringe, i bet you enjoyed the Wuk slop when she dragged you out of your cabin room too.
You werent even born, woke tumblr zoomer.
ngl, wasn't expecting this song during the MSQ, but it did make me smile
I know this song kind of has people split on if they like it or not (and the expansion has done that too) but for some reason it feels so nostalgic and happy to me.
This song sucks until 3:55 then is a literal bop for the next minute, falls off again until 5:45 where it finishes REALLY strong.
its a little Disney Channel sure, but idk why thats a bad thing? Last i checked Disney been making bangers since i was i kid. I like a good cheesy montage of friends working together set to upbeat fun music, sue me. Certified banger.
If your taste is still the same as when you were a child, then that's on you.
@@melissas4874 ok bud
Can't speak for others, but it was just too jarring for the expansion's finale for me. If they swapped the credits' first song with this, zero complaints. It's not remotely a bad song at all, just don't like it for the final cutscene.
I feel like this fits the first half, but not the 2nd half after the literal genocide and especially not the train scene
Yeah, nothing like a cheery Disney song after you see some kid crying over the smouldering remains of his mother.
Love it 💜💜💜
much like the expansion itself, this is something different. i really loved hearing that choir kick in during the msq and looking forward to having enough of my fc through msq that i can pop this music roll in the house.
This my favorite ending credit song easily. It fully represents this entire expansion
Cheers to a fun expansion :D
i think the main problem is sphene and emett have too much in common, so it feel reused stuff
@@jpl523 very fair. After this expansion, I no longer trust young girls or old foreign nation leaders XD
@@Raine-SSR Except Sphene and Wuk Lamat talked to each other for about 10 minutes and there was no personal connection at all.
Why is there so many dislikes on all the videos of this song?
Perpetually online people are mad people like a video game they don't like.
They probably Zoraal Ja' s minions
There are songs that I love in FFXIV and there are songs I don't really care about. Meanwhile, this is the only song in the whole game that I find genuinely, truly horrible to listen to, and that made the MSQ scenes it played in SIGNIFICANTLY worse. Everyone I know who has heard it feels the same way. I don't know why it has this many likes, I don't know where these people come from.
@@MasanianI think most people are capable of enjoying music in things they think are otherwise bad and disliking music in things they think are otherwise good
because most people hate it outside of the toxic positivity echo-chambers.
Hearing this while building a bomb In preparation to lay siege to a kingdom will always stick out as a final fantasy thing to me now lol
Someone’s gonna make a version of this with the xiv community singing the chorus and I’m gonna absolutely bawl.
This song slaps. Stop being miserable
This song sucks. Stop being a gaslighter.
"nooooo if you dont like what i like, you're just miserable!!!!" what a pathetic shill-tier cope
@@Sneedmeister Bro ngl, that sentence alone, I know you’re a 18-19 old virgin.
@@Sneedmeister No, you're just sad. It's a song that's remotely happy, and you're bitching. What else is there to call you?
@@Sneedmeister "NOOOOO MY POWER FANTASY!!!!!"
Has a theatre/concert chorus vibe.
Love it for this
This is such a disney princess song also Dawntrail is just Lion King
Excuse me, it's Lion Queen. LOL
Im sure if disney was bringing it back it would be lion queen just they way they are now but i grew up on lion king so it will forever be lion king lol
@@m3lod552 No need for them to bring it back, just remember that TLK has a canon sequel where the main female character is the crown princess. I hope that doesn't disappoint. xD
@aimee9478 Not dissapointed at all about it lol but its a sequel dawntrail is the beginning therefore the beginning was Lion King lol if the next expansion also centers on Wuk Lamat then it will be lion king 2 lol
Just like Dawntrail itself, this song grows on me more and more each time I revisit.
Song: *is remotely happy*
"HRRR DISNEY"
Some people haven't watched a single Disney movie, and it shows.
Ok zoomer
You could edit this song on the opening of The Lion King and it would work wonderfully
@@thomashercouet9608 Except the Lion King doesn't even remotely start like that, but OK.
Even if it did(it doesn't), congrats, you have...ONE example? Because Disney has ONE style and no other, and it's explicitly the Lion King's? Pfft, OK.
@@LuluTeala Sorry, I don't understand your comment. I don't speak "Braindead hater".
@@optimaltt6070 To be fair, it sounds more like a Disneyland parade song I'd say (I may contradict myself tomorrow because who knows what the future holds)
4:17 **hisses violently like a vampire being exposed to sunlight**
I'm glad I actually listened to this song out of game, because I'm enjoying it a lot more now
This song is so close to being up there with the greats. The recording or sound distortion for the backup choir just feels… off.
This song was never great. Not once in my entire time playing FFXIV did i once think "wow we need more sassy black choir music"
@@Sneedmeister Jesus, your hate boner is ridiculous. Let people enjoy things, troll.
You guys just wait the following patches are going to introduce the real threat this is just the beginning of the story
I swear i hated this when i first heard it but now i come here almost every day to listen to it send help
The person who merged this must be so smart and cool and attractive
Overhated song. It just has great vibes.
Yeah. It's positive so it's "Disney", it has a chorus so it's "Christian". The oversimplification gets tiring.
Dawntrail had some things that I didn't like, but this song 100% one of the positives
soul
I really love the composition of this song, I think it is fitting, I just think the choice of vocalist and the way vocals of the choir are mixed to be very very questionable.
My favorite part was the end of it
People who call this song cringe don't know how to let go and enjoy life in the moment.
bro this is straight up cope. this is a cringe "black church" gospel song. I can imagine Reverend Jessy Jackson singing this while demanding you donate to his latest scam fundraiser.
or maybe I can imagine this song playing for a Coca Cola commercial

, with what lyrics i can parse, I think it's a sweet idea if its from the people of Living Memory. As they "physically", aetherically leave the world I think its sweet if its from them as they fade away, or even as "live on" in our hearts, like the game was saying. The main singer reminds me of Cahciua which is what made me think of it
To me I think it's Sphene singing with the people of lost memory like you said
Great song but it didn't go well with the tone of the end scenes. Erenville was narrating sad moments and this happy music is going on.
Honestly I didn't mind this when it played at the end of the first half, but I did cringe when it played as they were remodeling the train...
@@Sneedmeister TBH really tho if this song wasn't going from happy to sad constantly and ended on one of the more sad parts it would have been better
They decided to hit us with the happy Nier Automata ending
SE tried too hard to spin an extremely positive song from a singer who is known for traditional anime works, not to mention Scream. This would have been better with a singer that had a little bit of a lower tone. Her higher pitch is grating and detracts from how the song is set up to sound.
And in the end I have to ask just based on how this song sounds...When is the Tural Tour Ride coming to Walt Disney World? Lol
The beginning is kinda weird and the chorus feels like a worship song, but it fits the theme lol
Damn is this from the bonus section of the Tangled DVD?
The problem I have with this song is the illegibility of the vocal and how rushed the vocal itself is. If they had slowed the tempo of the vocal, and cleaned up the vocals legibility the song would resonate significantly better. The song itself though it beautiful, especially the reprise.
ngl, hearing the chorus out of nowhere was cringe but when you put the full thing it slaps hard
Gives me ps2 jrpg credits theme vibes in the best kind of way
I love this theme! I'm a guy who also loved Hugh Jackman's The Greatest Showman. Smile is perfect :)
Man DT theme is so good, I adore the liberal use of reprises in this game. Gets me everytime :))
This song definitely grew on me as it went through those ending scenes
ngl, this is probably my favourit ending song after flow
I kinda hate how this song took a part from Close the Distance and made it it’s own
The anthem that signified the hard times to come.
MOM!!!!! I'M A PRETTY PRINCESS NOW!!!!!!
This song is basically the reverse of Komm sußer Tod and it's ight
The vocals here are…weird. Reminds me of Eric Cartman when he sings
