I joined a photo club and entered an abstract photo into the monthly photo group only to be laughed, shunned and rip to shreds by the group and adjudicator, they wanted sharp images & no noise, after two years hoping they would embrace different styles of photography I decided to leave the group. I wouldn't advise anyone joining such a society whilst they have rules that constrain creativity. I now enjoy taking photos for me. Good luck with your photography.
I don't belong to any clubs for that exact reason they are so set in there ways and not open to new types of photography art. Don't let it bother you they are the one's missing out. I always say as long as you like and enjoy your work that's all that matters. Have you seen the new ICM photo mag worth checking it out. Soon we will be recognised as true art photographers. All the best John.
@@johndexterphotography1658 Thank you John for the reply, I've enclosed this video for you to have a look at my images, this one was using cut glass. Each year the club had a video section so I submitted this as their was no competition titles to match what I was doing throughout the year, didn't even get recognised. ruclips.net/video/a8-7KL3TkxE/видео.html
thanks! that's the shutter area I am working in - may I ask 1 more: do you put a lot of work into photoshop? (I try not to, but if you say, you do, I would consider it, because your results are great)@@johndexterphotography1658
Hi John thx for the video and inspiration I'm just starting with ICM and was wondering if I should buy a Polarise filter or not. as it would remove the reflections that one would probably want and as most icm photos almost seem quit dual would I miss that richer colours that I would get with a PF. thx much appreciated
Hi Douglas thank you for your kind comment, I have never used a polarising filter so I could not comment on the results but it may be worth a try. All the best John.
Just found your feed John - great images, and a process that I have played with in the past and will do more of with the inspiration gained from your vlogs. Is the Hamworthy pier shot of the Lake Pier, or somewhere else around Hamworthy?
Hi my apologies I have just seen your comment on my RUclips. To answer your question is you can do ICM with any camera even a phone, lenses are the same as landscape photography varying from wide angle to a long lens depending on the composition, but a good starting lens would be a 50mm. Hope this is of help? All the best John.

Thank you for that. I'm just starting to play with ICM, there's more to it that I thought!
ICM is all about trying different things and take hundreds of images and see what works for you.
I greatly enjoy looking at your art! You are an inspiration to me.
Well thank you so much
@@johndexterphotography1658 In one of the answers you gave you said that you use a 6 ND filter, is it ok to use on a zoom lens too?
@@johndexterphotography1658 and is there a brand you recommended? Thank you
@@carolinezaramati9193 Yes that's fine
@@carolinezaramati9193 I use B+W but any good quality filter will be ok

@@johndexterphotography1658 well you have it listed as gear on your info under your video 🤷🏼♂️
@@johndexterphotography1658 so then I guess it’s best to start of with VN filters

Thank you very much for your kind comment. The pier is near Hamorthey park that's about as near as I can expline.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful images, John. I love them all. May I ask if you are using an ND filter?
Thank you for your kind comment, yes I use a 6 stop ND filter most of the time.

Fantastic work, ICM looks easy, but if you not have the the "feeling", the results are no very pleasent, salutation fron the chilean patagonia
Thank you so much for your kind comment.
What times do you use mostly?
It varies from about half to one and a half seconds.
I achieved this image by pounding a four pack of tall boys while wearing loubitons. Cheers mate !
This kinda shooting is something I can do pretty easy my shoots usually look like these way out of focus shots anyway
