Excellent video. It's so refreshing to see a vid of these beautiful amps with an actual talk track, as opposed to someone filming their stereos play music. I guess some creators think that people viewing a system play music can magically tell what it sounds like by listening to compressed digital audio through their Ipad or laptop speakers. Anyhow, this was great. Thanks for putting this together.
2 McIntosh MacKIT30 mono tube amps diy built amps with upgraded tubes... Pioneer SX-737 stereo receiver. Great sound from vintage gear however I find modern speakers to be difficult to pair with certain gear. A lot of younger people are now getting into vintage gear it seems realizing how far we have come in the audio industry.
That’s awesome! You can do a lot with the faceplates on those if yours is tarnished. I probably have an extra C8 I’d sell if you have trouble finding one. You want to be careful buying one because they did a lot of circuit revisions and it’s likely whatever one you find may not match perfectly.

I’ve got mine at my stereo guys shop right now and he’s going to put a new power cord on mine cause it was a little sketchy looking haha, he’s also gonna make sure everything is good with it. Suppose I do buy another c8, could I just take the other one to him as well and have him match them up?
Yeah, that would work for the most part, but it might not be exact. Use the placement of the rivets and screws and the appearance of the back panel to help yourself find a closely matched unit.
Other thing is that isn’t the power cord. The plug is used to power the rear outlets on the preamp. You need an octal cable that goes from the amplifier to the preamplifier and powers it.
@@chrisw.3077 right, I have the opicable aka the umbilical cord and the original D-8 power box. I’m not planning on using that D-8 power supply though. Do you know if they’re worth anything?
Wow thank you for this informational video. I came into a marching pair of these and now I am going to definitely take them in for service before plugging them in! I also have the preamp, speakers, and equalizer, should I take them all in to be checked out?
Hi Alyson, you’ll want to get everything checked out except for the speakers. They’re likely okay to use as they are unless the foam surrounds they may have are rotted. However, you want to be careful about who you take all of it to. If you’re in California, maybe I can help.
I am in California and thanks to you I have looked up McIntosh techs nearby. I’m going to call them today to find out the rates. Unfortunately i know very little about vintage audio so I am a little worried about missing some red flags with the quality of service. Your video provided me a lot of key points I think I will want to cover when I do talk with them. Thank you!
