Stayed at Ibis Styles in Myeongdong and also Novotel Ambassador in Dongdaemung. Ibis great for location, but don't rely on restaurant / rooftop bar being open every day. Novotel more upmarket and quite pricey. Again, close to metro but not a lot else round there. Check in at Novotel also rather odd in that you have to go up to the top floor for the check in desks. Often have to wait a while for the lifts/elevators. Great information as always - many thanks!

A couple months ago stayed at the 4* Nine Tree Premier (there's another Nine Tree in central Myeondong that's 3*) closer to Eulgiro 3, it was really easy to walk to the main parts of Myeondong but the hotel itself was in a more peaceful area. There's great cafes, authentic feeling restaurants and pochas in this area. I think its the most affordable 4* in the area, and the rooms are big. Also the trains from Euljiro 3 went to more destinations I was interested in compared to Myeondong station, direct trains to DDP, Hongdae, Seongsu etc.

I’m currently in Seoul now. Your suggestions were awesome. I stayed in Myeondong which was very close to City Hall and I was able to walk around and easily use the subway system
