- WHY DID OUR HOMIES LEAVE GROVE STREET? In this video, we'll discuss the fate of the Grove Street Families, a topic that is somewhat peculiar in relation to the GTA 5 storyline. Grove Street, as we all know, used to be right in the middle of the greens in GTA San Andreas, but in GTA 5, things are completely different. There are a number of explanations for why GSF in GTA 5 did not have a happy ending. What motives? This video has the information.
I would like to also say my bad for messing up the names of Tonya and JB. I couldn't remember their names and made this video kind of fast but either way this was made to spark a discussion nothing more.
I would love to hear your thoughts on why Grove St. lost the war to the Ballas!

Still hate that we never got a San Andreas Stories game during the PS2 era.
It’s also crazy to thing it’s one of the only gta games to not get a side story, vice city, gta 3, and gta 4 all have side stories except for San Andreas and gta 5

CJ left the hood to focus on his businesses. Since CJ took over all the territories, Sweet most likely handed them down to an underboss and moved on. GSF then lost control of some territories.
Facts, even in GTA SA his last words were "I'm just gonna head out to the block". He had a Record Label and "Ice-T's" character had a hit record.

Sweet was probably killed during the late 90s and most of the gang was split - from a realistic pov, some of them either got hooked on crack\incarcerated\dead while the rest of them switched up on GSF (my guess, created new crews that were allied with the Ballas and later united as a Ballas faction)
Sweet is a Anti-Drug leader. When he was gone (left or died)... The remaining members got addicted again then Ballas took over ot again.
Same with how they took it over when Sweet was in prison.

Franklin did actually know alot about GSF. As he says "Grove street families? Man that was a long time ago." i understand why some people may confuse that for him not knowing much. But if you use Franklin and hang out with Jimmy at multiple parts in the story Jimmy will mention GSF. With Franklin saying stuff like how that was a very long time ago how they were on top in the early 90s. Even saying that they were legends and now alot of people see GSF as a myth. But GSF did eventually fall.
Yeah, I think when I wrote the script, I was replaying it differently in my head. I don't think he knew much about them, but he had an idea of the GSF.
Since many characters of GTA canon exist in both the 3D and HD universes, it stands to reason that the events of SA happened and we have a version of CJ out there somewhere. They hint at the exploits of the Grove Street Families in the early 90s and by 2013, they had become legendary. Those like CJ and Sweet left the families to those who likely didn't possess the code of honor of their predecessors.
Only Lazlow right? He's the only one to appear in them all.
But where did CJ go? I mean he was king. Maybe permanently moved to San Fierro or Venturas to be with Wuzzi!

It’s pretty much of a example or satire of how current gang sets in LA are now compared to back in the day.. youngins make completely new sets or switch Allies and enemies over time
Sounds like gang culture across the US like LA, Chicago, NYC. The youngins are not concerned about the money, it seems more and more they wanna kill the people that killed their homies, and so on.

I think that Rockstar Developers just focused on the main characters stories and their purpose, including side stories n everything. I just hope that they did something about the Grove and Ballas, would have been good. Fantastic video homie!

CJ's era was OVER 30yrs ago. a lot of the members today, werent even born at that time. plus when the OGs die or get locked up forever, theres no one to teach the history.

Most probably in the GTA HD universe, CJ never came back from liberty city. Sweet was killed instead of his mother. Big Smoke and Ryder took over the gang and later merged with the Ballas. As for Kendl, I think she also left Grove Street.

3D / HD universe refers to engine and trilogy, not to the storyline and canon itself. More likely is that Ballas grew again due to the drug business and actually won at the end, because drugs make lotta money

IIRC there were references to OG Loc, Madd Dogg and Donald Love in GTA V. Lazlow appeared in III, and later in V, I don‘t recall if he was on radio in VC or SA.
Why do people think in first instance that these two are different universes? Unless this has been confirmed by R* themselves, (provide source) I can‘t see a reason to believe this.

I tell people this all the time.... GTA SA and GTA 5 are NOT linked together story wise. Theres references to the older GTA games but San andreas takes place in the 3D Universe and GTA 4 and 5 take place in the HD Universe. Thats why you see characters from GTA 4 and none from the 3D games.
It is possible for the same story to have happened in both universes while keeping the two outcomes and minor things different.

Part of me thinks that CJ got fed up with Sweet, the GS Families and saw them for what they really were; gang banging negative stereotypes. He decided to move on and focus on the businesses he had ventures in from GTA San Andreas. Sweet who was set in his ways chose to stay in Grove Street until ultimately dying in some form of gang violence.
Just Cause people claim the same gang don't mean they friends or will ride for each other , they have cliques for a reason and they make up large gangs they're usually not organized crime the ballas or families will never team up to annihilate a gang because they might have family members from the other side

I reckon CJ's still going as a businessman working with Woozy, Madd Dogg, Cesar & Kendl.
You can tell his mind was made up about leaving the hood behind when he picked Sweet up from prison. He tried to get Sweet to come along with it, but Sweet was having none of it so he tried to rebuild the hood to try and win Sweet over.
After the end of the story, with all his enemies out of the picture, CJ decided he wanted a fresh start and to take full advantage of the business connections he'd made. You can tell at the end when he says he's going to take a walk around the block. He likely decided during that walk, he wanted to put him and his business interests above the hood and being a gangbanger.
He'd have likely moved away and out of Grove Street if not LS entirely.
Over time, Sweet would have likely gotten more annoyed that CJ was putting his business interests above that of the hood as well as constantly being away from it. He'd also likely still be mad at Kendl for going out with someone who wasn't from Grove St gang. CJ & Kendl would have likely made numerous attempts to get Sweet on board but Sweet would have refused as he's incapable of seeing that there's more to the world than Grove Street and the gang. This would eventually lead to CJ & Kendl cutting ties with Sweet or at the very least distancing themselves from him so they don't get drawn in to the gang violence again.
Judging by the fact that Grove Street is Ballas controlled by 2013, Sweet is either dead or incarcerated due to being unable to see a life beyond being a gangbanger. So the gang would have had no leadership which would have meant the remaining homies would have fled, died or moved over to the Ballas. CJ would have no interest in intervening at this point as he no longer wants to risk his life when he has better options with his business connections & no real ties to Grove St anymore. All the others will have all just moved on with their lives, capitalising on the business connections made in the SA story.

Rockstar claims that all of their GTA games take place in a different “universe” or “dimension”. Kinda like Across the Spiderverse. Although it is hard to believe when prior GTA protagonists are mentioned in the newer games🤔 maybe it’s just Rockstar trying to cover for little mistakes like this😂

Lamar or Franklin says the grove old school just got rich and let that go. Younger members simply didn’t recognize the gang rules and start selling dope, eventually turning to the Ballas side.
One of the Families members in the game has a dialogue line "OG Johnson is gutta like a muthafucka", maybe that`s just an easter egg but I`d like to believe he`s referring to CJ or Sweet. Also, I think the voice actor for this Fam member is Baby Gangsta, a well known Santana Block Compron Crip. Overall I think all these guess are just guesses. There is no deeper philosophy behind the gang lore of GTA, just Rockstar being Rockstar and fucking this up. The lack of Angels of Death MC in GTAV is also puzzling for me. How an outlaw mc being the biggest in America becomes extinct in a span of 5 years? Especially in their home state? I heard a theory that real Hells Angels (the mc which obviously AoD was based on) had some issues with portraying AoD MC as a white supremacist gang and they confronted R* developers about that. Too bad, I feel like GTAV was missing another outlaw mc

As Franklin said "times change". In 1992 The territories of the gangs are about half of LS, but in 2013 the territories of the gangs are just couple of streets. CJ has a lot of better things to do rather than staying at GS. Not sure about Sweet, but Kandle and CJ have left GS to take care their own business.
Gta 3, vice city and San Andreas apparently take place in a different universe to the current one, but idk how true that is because characters from those games get referenced like og loc and mad dog
R* just needs to come out and say they are connecting the GTA universe and come out with a true canon, making a book or something because GTA would greatly benefit from it.

it. And you won't believe the lvl of changes it undrertook in about 40 years.
I really hate how R* concluded the gang territory & map layout. Such a major disappointment from San Andreas. They dropped the ball with this game.
I agree from a gaming standpoint. This does make more sense to me in terms of realism. The gangs wouldn't control that much of the city. Even if they did, borders would shift constantly. Times change. in real life, a lot of African American gangs were wiped out by Hispanic American gangs. While I wish we did have better gang representation, it wasn't unrealistic.
Black gangs were not wiped out by Hispanic gangs you make it sound like they were weak.
People simply moved because of gentrification and better job opportunities in other states. Then Hispanics moved into those neighborhoods formerly black.
Even still all of the original black gangs still exist.
GTA San Andreas definitely deserved a sequel, even though GTA 4 with Niko Bellic was a solid game I wish it would have been a game centered around the San Andreas world instead

Since they didn't make San Andreas Stories, I'm developing a fan fiction of one. I've been evaluating details for years to make everything make sense for when I'm ready to write. It'll be a prequel and sequel in one big story. I know fan fiction gets a lot of flak, but I hold my writing to very high standards and follow lore that would make sense for it.
Idk why but I always get the weird feeling that the current leaders at rockstar don’t really like San Andreas too much for some reason.
my theory is, Sweet was killed by the Ballas sometime after GTA SA story, CJ then again runs away from SA to abandon his gang like he did when Brian died, CJ is always a busta.
second theory is, Sweet and CJ realized that the drugs took over the streets and is killing the families and they cannot stop loosing their members, Sweet himself eventually realizes that there is no point in trying to protect his families from getting into drugs and the Ballas keep trying to take over Grove St because the families are weak and low in numbers, Sweet eventually realizes it's a loosing battle and agrees with Carl that they cannot stay or else they will die, Carl and Sweet tell Kendal and Caesar who's gang is also collapsing and pretty much every gang in LS is due to the rise of drugs since after Big Smoke was killed, the drugs keep coming and more people are getting it, so Carl and his bro and sister and Caesar all move to SF where they're car bushines is successful and Sweet helps CJ steal cars and further grow their car business and they both work for Wuzi running his Casino too, living better lives and Sweet finally comes to terms with the reality that the hood owed him nothing, and finally understands his brother. Until Sweet is killed by an assassin during a car theft heist, which was also a FBI sting set up, Carl is arrested and is sentenced to life in prison for all is murders and crimes he committed, he is still in Prison to the very days of GTA 5.
One thing about S.A. was the ghettos felt truly realized and massive in V they barely squeezed it in the map.

My theory is that in the HDD universe CJ never came back from liberty city and stayed there, as evidenced by the billboard in GTA 4, presuming that’s how the grove street was so eager to cooperate with the Ballas, possibly because they were also able to get wrapped up with officer Tenpenny, but idk about that one, and it could be why they also allowed cocaine to be common place across HDD’s Families, this could also have the added consequences of making gta 3’s Claude not come to Liberty City since Catalina would not have fell in love with CJ and tried to make him jealous by making Claude her man. Feel free to let me know what you think.
That's a good one. But there are only different universes because Liberty City is so different between them. I feel there were easy solutions around that. Still could be because they rarely mention 3D era events.

@@Abu_Ayyub_Al-Sudani Well, after I saw a Cities Skylines rebuild of GTA 3's map, I'm even more optimistic that they can just remake that old map and add on to it. The three families don't even have to be connected to the Liberty City Five Families, because realistically, they're too distrustful of each other for the main Commission to accept them. Their history is far too violent for them to be considered to join even in the 1970s.
I hope gta6 comes with gangs and area control features
i hope its more organized crime/cartel related than street gangs. i wouldnt mind street gangs being a thing in gta 6 but them being ultimately controlled by mafias or cartels would set the theme of something bigger at play.

This is probably a different reality where CJ didn’t end up helping Sweet take back over the hood and stayed in his mansion or maybe CJ never returned to SA at all and the Ballas took control. People seem to forget the the HD universe is a different universe than the 3D universe as stated by Rockstar some events may be similar but the story wouldn’t be the same. So to claim the events in GTA 5 happened after GTA SA is technically not true, it’s a different reality where different scenarios may have played out to get us where we are in GTA 5.
There’s lore of dialogue that suggest he did though

There is no depth needed. Rockstar has even stated that the 3D Verse and the HD Verse are not 1 in the same, so the Grove Street Family we see in the 3D Verse aren't the same families of HD
That whole universe crap is just an excuse for having a different maps it’s clearly the same universe that all the characters share
As I've been saying, they need to make the original Liberty City its own location with a different name. This means a change to their airport name because Francis International is in GTA IV, but it's nothing they can't work around. I hear Starfish Island and Little Havana won't be in GTA 6, but I hope that's false. What they needed to do for GTA V was just work on it longer for it to be larger and more accurate. The next GTA V release needs to be a full remake of the map because iconic San Andreas areas are missing, like Ganton.

@@sheriefwoodard8686 I agree, but I'm mostly unfamiliar with everything before GTA 3. They should still remake the top-down ones. If GTA 1 had a contemporary setting when it was released, they could take inspiration from crime films of the era. Sorry, I don't know anything about its story or vibe.
Oh, and something I love about Saints Row - the original series, that is - is that Volition changed so much of the map of the same city that it was nearly unrecognizable. But the canon stayed the same. So Rockstar doesn't make sense for this reason. They've made the best games and their resources are endless, so I don't understand why they don't go through with simple fixes.

But you know that SA and V universes are not connected, right? "HD" Universe that was started when GTA IV came out totally "rebooted" whole universe, so Los Santos and Grove Street we know from San Andreas are not the same places we see in GTA V.
Have you not been playing the games? They have the same characters literally all the same characters.
The universes can be different while the story is slightly altered. I recommend you checking out the spiderverse or any other universe theme movie.

Speaking of, here's an embarrassing fact: when I first played Liberty City Stories, I kept wondering when Toni would kill Tommy because I didn't fully complete Vice City as I didn't know how assets worked, so my last mission was the final payphone mission, and I assumed this was us delivering Sonny's lost merchandise to him.

Why did grove street look completely different in GTA 5? Is it the same location as San Andreas?
A few years after the end of GTA SA, things are starting to dry up around the hood and especially in Grove Street.
CJ is getting older and more mature, hence making slowly want to move away from crime, also he and his girlfriend, Denise, are getting more serious and might marry. All of these factors makes a bad life for a gangster, so one day Carl, and probably his family, move out of the hood altogether and try to make a happier life for themselves. CJ and Denise eventually have children and raise them in a more peaceful and stable environment, as Carl does not want his children growing up in the same traumatic environment he did.
With Carl, Sweet and the other core members having moved out, the GSF are in deep trouble. Their most capable commanders are gone and their enemies know this. After a few months of preparation, the Ballas go on a massive offensive, ramping up attacks when the police aren't paying attention and causing havoc for the Grove Street Families. Amid heavy casualties the remaining members of GSF finally surrender, most of them sell up their homes and move to other neighborhoods, a small number might even have stayed and joined the Ballas.
All be it, most would have moved, to avoid becoming second class citizens on their own street.

The ballas Takeover Grove St. on GTA San Andreas y’all remember that mission when you do green Sabre mission once beat that and you get kidnap so go to country for awhile go back to grove st. It’s going be nothing but ballas there……..That takeover territory shit doesn’t mean nothing on GTA San Andreas it’s just a mini game to earn your respect with CJ build your appeal….

In my opinion GTA V singleplayer is unbearable. San Andreas had more replay value than any other Grand Theft Auto. And the fact they couldn’t show no respect or and real presence of grove street pisses me off. Not even a DLC to show what the fk happend up to GTAV. The fact this game received no kind of single player dlc is beyond me. The modding community put in more work then rockstar to keep their game alive.

The universes have some crossover, but and events from San Andreas are mentioned in GTA V. The universes are more of a boundary made by Rockstar to prevent characters from older games from directly appearing in the new ones, but it doesn’t mean the old ones are completely uncannon.

Sure, OG Loc exists in GTA V but they made different universe so they could alter the events of timelines if they needed to. GTA SA’s story didn’t happen in V like it did in SA.
