    Happy I started with this video because it is exactly where I need to start; right at the very basics and you provided that sista' Well done. Thank you. Turning 71 in two days and have played guitar my entire life and eventually went on to bass guitar, mandolin and even banjo, however, violin has always, always been my secret love. After having played Lindsey Stirlings' 'Christmas C'mon' during the holidays year after year, I finally got the inspiration this season that I have been waiting for and ordered a Bellafina 4/4, fretboard note position marker tape kit in four colors, Kun shoulder rest and a Piezo pickup kit. When I grow up I want to be as cool as Lindsey ........... hahahahaha ............. lol ...........

    Greetings! I'm 78 and played my first notes on a violin yesterday. Also managed to break the E string (twice) and have yet to get one tuned, but I think I've learned to be a bit more gentle in the tuning process.
    I'm still trying to get comfortable with the hold, but think I'm getting quite close. The chin rest that came with the rental (student model Yamaha) certainly doesn't line up with MY chin. Finally got the shoulder rest adjusted and that seems to be fine. Have ordered a center-mounted chin rest which should solve the rest of that issue.
    My first music lessons were on the accordion and started when I was 8. Went on to play in various competitions and my first job in high school was teaching at the local music studio. The left-hand part of an accordion is organized on the circle of 5ths, so it certainly helps understanding the structure of the violin.
    I am TOTALLY dependent on your videos. Thanks!

    A major problem that I still have i be s the proper adjustment of my Kun shoulder rest. It seems to be ok for 20 minutes or so and then either it sleeps or my posture gets sloppy. Again, thank you. Any ideas or comments a re welcome.

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  Год назад

      Hi Yossi, in the beginning practicing can be quite tiring and it takes a long time for your muscles to get used to violin playing. If you're starting out and you're comfortable for 20 minutes, just take a break after that and come back to the instrument later. Probably after 20 minutes you do something different, maybe slouch a little. Just stretch a bit and come back later.

    I can't seem to find an answer to this: The jaw on the chin rest creates a grip on the violin when it is pressed to the collarbone, right? And this grip allows the player to take the left hand off the violin completely, but still hold the violin parallel to the ground, right? So ... is this grip the ONLY method I need to use to hold the violin and keep it steady? Why should I even be concerned with the thumb at all (and the base of the forefinger)? It seems to me that the action of the left hand constantly sliding up and down the fingerboard will need the jaw grip to "take over" the responsibility of steadying the violin, which would create a "push/pull" feeling on the jaw as I play. Right???? (I hope I'm making sense.)

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  6 лет назад +1

      For some strange reason RUclips put your comment in my spam box... What you describe is the modern violin school that exists in the past couple of decades and a lot of teachers think this is the only truth. But... For centuries violinists have played without shoulder rests, including the great players of the first half of the 20th century. The chinrest was only used to prevent the violin from wiggling. The violin partially rests on the collar bone and partially in the left hand and a bit lower and more to the middle than a lot of violin players do these days. In this way it's perfectly possible to shift positions and do vibrato, as all the great players played all the virtuosic stuff from the 19th century. The advantage is that your neck and shoulders can relax more and you have more freedom of movement. What school you follow is for you to choose.

      Johan Koning er zijn veel verschillende manieren en zonder schoudersteun is ook een optie.

      It's been almost 45 years since I spent a year in that part of Europe. Is the next translation in English correct. I'm not jealous but as I can see most of subscribers or comments are in English so for others who wants enjoy Zlata's method, please rate my translation.
      "Thank you! Zlata, what is the 'normal' angle at which you hold the violin against your collarbone. I see about 45 degrees in the videos. That is also the case with and without a shoulder support, but it feels unnatural. I would like to keep the violin flatter, but that only works without a shoulder rest. Please advise."

    From your video and others, I KNOW how to hold the violin, but I'm having a hard time doing it right. I injured my left shoulder several years ago,making it difficult to get my elbow down below the violin neck and pointing down to the floor. It's not too much of a problem except for when I try to play the lowest notes on the G string. Any suggestions? Thanks

      Would it help to keep the violin more to the middle or the left? And certainly not too high...

    Hi, I've decided to learn violin without a shoulder rest it's far more comfortable for me but my question is will it be harder to learn?

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  4 года назад

      When it's more comfortable, I'd say it will be easier. However, make sure you're educated well on playing without a shoulder rest, finding the right balance, so you don't get stuck when you move to playing with vibrato or in high positions (or both).

    I am a beginner and I bought a violin and while tuning it the next day, my E string broke. Is that common??

      What brand of strings is it? Or was it a string set that came with a violin you bought online? In the last case: yes, this is normal, you need to get a decent set of strings like this one: violinlounge.com/product-review/thomastik-dominant-vs-fiddlerman-violin-string-review-violin-lounge-tv-331/

    I think everytime I put the violin on my shoulder, I always have a hard time to make it stay still since it will press at my collarbone and it just painful 😅 or maybe the way on holding the violin is bad? wrong?

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  Год назад

      Probably you should take a look at your chinrest and shoulder rest set up.
