Hi William. I used my own rotary table in anger for the first time a few weeks ago. A very pleasing experience, once I got over how to hold the piece to the table. Got my brain cells working.
I am also in the process of a major tear down of my Dore Westbury mill, as I too have concerns about ‘play induced chatter’. Keep going. Always interesting to watch what you are up to. 👏👏👍😀

thanks Andrew, glad to see I'm not the only one with a few peculiar mill issues! Dore Westbury - I'm sure it's lovely!

We made something similar for the centre of our rotary table in much the same way as you. The parts you made look great. Watching your video has made us think of buying a smaller rotary table for our Centec, the monster 12 inch one we have will not fit. We spent a long time adjusting the gibs on our Centec but after not using the mill for a few months the axises now feel too tight.

I think the wear on the Centec has thrown me off - the section in normal use is more worn than the edges so I have to be careful about how much I nip it up.

    eyup William
Rotary Tables, just like buses used to be, you wait ages for one then two turn up!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice job on the radiuses!!!, but i thought by now you should have plenty of experiences with "Lock Downs" 🤔🤔
    see you next time👍👍

Yes, I felt like a right idiot. I wonder if I need to make knurled handles for the locking nuts? Sodding around with allen keys is getting annoying!

@@williamsworkshopuk anything to make life easier, unless it's on something you only use once in a blue moon, "swings and roundabouts"🤔🤔👍👍

What’s better than one rotary table…. well that would be two! 😂. A rotary table is on my to buy list when I have available funds. This was a fantastic video, great editing buddy. All the best, Matt 👍

    That's not a fail. It's just a "how not to" lesson :)

Good advice indeed: if it's not right you'll never be satisfied with it. Much better to cut your losses and remake. Regards.

Yes indeed - probably not visible in the end, but I'd know it was there!

Hi William, I enjoy your channel even though I don't have deep interest in building models but rather engineering and the machines. My interest is restoring my woodworking machines and for woodwork tooling etc. I have a Boxford Mk3 AUD lathe and a Centec 2B mill similar to yours. I have put VFD's and new motors on both with variable speed dials and RPM dials with larger 1.1kw 4 pole motors to hopefully help with more torque at low speeds. Those upgrades have gone well. I have fitted a Machine DRO on the lathe with magnetic scales and was impressed I will also add a 3 axis Machine DRO to the mill. I suspect the ways on mine are in a bit better condition than yours as my mill was dedicated to cutting brass. The concept of horizontal milling was new to me but that should work for many projects as I got lots of horizontal tooling with the mill. I have a couple of questions if you could spare the time to answer.
I have checked everywhere but I cant find out what the dipstick is for on the right hand side of the vertical attachment. There are a few grease nipples at various points and then there is this oil level dip stick on the side. The instruction manuals I have dont have instructions for the vertical attachment. There is geared direction change in the head and it would make sense if it was splash lubricated but I don't see evidence of oil seals so I think it may make a big mess if I just add oil. Do you know what needs to be done?
The drawbars with the mill are pretty bad so I have researched the drawbar on the vertical head with the thought of remaking and there is evidence it can be encapsulated at the top so rather then walking the nut with a hammer to release, the act of undoing the arbour also releases or more accurately eject the arbour. Do you know about this? There are scant details on the groups.io Centec forum.
My last question is about you wise. I notice you upgraded with what looks to be a Vevor (or Chinese like) mill vise which looks to be about 125mm. What size did you get? How do you feel about the size as it looks a far lump of steel on the bed. I was considering with the 80 or 100mm.
Thanks for your content as well.

AFAIK there is a splash lubricated oil bath in the vertical head - the seals around the quill aren't perfect so I get a drop every now and then.
For the drawbar in the V/H - my one is a fabricated replacement but appears to be to the original design. There is a cap which screws onto the top of the VH which retains a flange on the drawbar, so as you crank on the top of the drawbar it forces the tooling out of the arbor. The following drawing isn't mine, but looks accurate (my threaded section is 3/8" BSW): i.imgur.com/qPDMvBS.jpg
My vice is from Arc Eurotrade but it's the same kinda thing. I can't remember which size I went for (unfortunately not near my workshop to check) but it felt like a significant improvement. I will hold on to the Abwood vice and see if I can recondition it in due course.

Thanks for your reply. The drawing of the drawbar is just what I needed. The news of splash oil in the vertical head is no surprise. Any guess on what oil. Something heavy I imagine. If when you get back in the workshop you measure the vice let me know. It looks to big in video but that doesn’t mean it is. If that size feel too large you would know. Would the next size down work ok? Thanks for your reply.

Which direction are you talking about? In the vertical axis I have a riser block.
